Top 7 Denim Trends for Fall
1. Cargos
Cargos have been gaining popularity this summer and will continue to be a trend through this fall. It started with the J Brand Houlihan cargo but almost ever designer is releasing their own take on it. With so many different options you can be sure to find a pair that is flattering to your figure. For tips on how to wear them, check out Lorna’s post on how to wear them or read the Wiki on some of the best styles.
2. Denim leggings
Denim leggings started gaining popularity last fall and are still a trend that’s going strong. This will still be a popular trend for upcoming fall and winter. Denim leggings are great because you can wear them in a variety of different ways, tucking them into boots or wearing them with tunics and flats. Plus, they’re typically made from stretchy material and are super soft. Check out the Wiki for some popular options.
3. Printed Denim
Brands like MiH and J Brand have collaborated with designers to release special edition printed collections. Prints range from tribal inspired, to abstract or to the really daring, leopard print, like those from Sass & Bide. If you’re on the more daring side, these are certainly a fun addition to your wardrobe.
4. Waxed Denim
Waxed denim is quickly finding popularity with celebrities. Like the cargo pant, almost every brand has debuted this sleek look. Waxed denim is a great alternative to another popular trend this season, leather pants. It’s great because it is less expensive and also more breathable. Plus, options even come in a variety of different styles, like skinny or even cargo! Check out Jonathan’s blog on Waxed denim.
5. Wide Leg Denim
It’s time to give your skinnies a break! Wide leg denim is starting to make a come back and tons of celebrities have been spotted out wearing it. One of the perks of this trend is that it is universally flattering. Wide leg jeans look great with heels or flats or can be dressed up with a fun 70s style that is popular right now.
6. Studded Denim
Studs are everywhere! From shorts to vests to jeans. Studs have been a popular addition to jeans for a couple of seasons. This trend is still a popular one and will continue to be one for fall. Studs are great because they add some toughness to your everyday look. Brands like Current/Elliott make a variety of different studded styles or if you’re feeling really adventurous, try Robin’s jeans.
7. Patchwork Denim
Patchwork denim was a popular trend on the runway (Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2010) and has made its way down to the mass market. Brands like Jet Jeans and Elizabeth and James each have extremely wearable patchwork styles. They look great contrasted with heels or a nice shirt.
Tom Cruise in Ralph Lauren
You can always count on Tom Cruise to be loyal to his Ralph Lauren jeans. Why wouldn’t he though? They are a great fit on him. Another thing that I think Tom seems to be loyal too are his stilts. Yes, the shoes that he wore to add height during the Knight and Day promotional tour.
Tom was seen out and about in the Czech Republic looking for possible shooting locations for a new film. I wonder what movie he has coming up next. I’m sure it will be an action and putting Tom Cruise in a foreign land together usually means that.
Katie Holmes in MiH
Katie Holmes was seen out in New York with husband Tom Cruise (who is most likely wearing his Ralph Lauren jeans) and daughter Suri. She was wearing a pair of MiH New York jeans in True Blue throughout the day. Katie seems to be quite a fan of their jeans lately. I think she looks amazing in their flares, especially the last time we spotted her wearing them. I truly think that MiH make such flattering flares for the women. Their jeans really give the illusion of slimmer longer legs.
I miss Katie being so frequent on the blog. She has such amazing denim choices. But she has been very low-key for the past couple of years and now she usually only gets spotted every few weeks or so. She must be really good at tricking the paparazzi.
Custom Jeans By Loren Cronk Video
I came across this video on New York Magazine the other day. In the video it shows designer Loren Cronk making a pair of jeans. The former designer of Ralph Lauren and Levi’s, goes from choosing the fabric to the hardwear to making the tag. The video is very short, they cut down a three and a half hour bit down to roughly over two minutes.
Also in the video Loren chats about his inspirations, how he styles the jeans and the little detail he adds with the back pockets. He also shows that nothing goes to waste in his shop. He reuses scraps for the pocket lining of his custom jeans. You can check out Loren’s store for custom services or purchase the many pre-made pairs that he has to offer, as well as denim accessories at his Greenpoint store in Brooklyn, New York. If any of you readers are in the area give us some feedback on what you thought of the store.
