Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

denim trends Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

I thought it would be good to put together a post showcasing my top denim trends of the moment. I am obviously a fan of more than just 5 denim trends, but I picked my top 5 just for jeans. This is including prints and fabrics, not trends like studded denim, flares or denim shirts etc, just aesthetic trends.

These are in no particular order either as I couldn’t possibly pick what trend is my absolute favourite. Although, if I was forced to, I might say that dip dye/ombre takes the lead for me. You can check out my favourite trends below! These are all styles that have been really popular among the celebs and denim lovers in general, so you should be able to associate very well with them.

leopard print denim Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

I absolutely love leopard print! I think it’s so much fun as it’s really bold and fearless. The leopard print jeans remind me a lot of being daring and courageous when it comes to denim. Plus, I love cats, so the leopard print is very much suited for that reason alone. I think when an outfit involving this gorgeous print is kept neutral everywhere else, it works so well because the jeans make a statement on their own. My favourite shade for this trend would have to be grey or brown, I like the more classic looks the most. It’s more appealing to me than neons or bright colours, I find those to look a bit off. Are you a fan of leopard print too?

dip dye ombre denim Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

Now this one, like I said above, might possibly be my favourite trend! Not just for denim, but of all time. When ombre is done just right, it looks amazing. The perfect pair for me would be dark blue which has a medium blue transition in the middle and then it fades into a much lighter blue or white. I find that to be perfect! However I’m also a big fan when it’s really dark with a medium blue transition or even grey into white.

I also love bright colours in ombre too like reds and pinks. There is just something about this trend that I love, it might be because you get to have two or more shades of denim in one and it makes the jeans really interesting and nice to look at. I own quite a lot of dip dye pieces and I’m still obsessed with needing more!

coated waxed denim Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

Coated and waxed jeans have been a favourite of mine for a couple of years now. The trend still remains strong with brands releasing their take on it each season and I love it! Coated red or black skinny jeans are my favourite, I think any other colour isn’t as nicely done, however still looks ok. The black and the red though, they look really stylish and are the easiest colours to wear in my opinion.

The best thing about coated jeans is how much more they dress up an outfit. If you wore a black blazer with black skinny jeans, a white blouse and heels, it would look smart, but I think if you switched the black jeans for coated black skinnies, it gives the ensemble that little bit more of an edge to it, it makes it stand out more and gives the impression of confidence. You can do a lot with coated jeans! They just give that oomph to an otherwise basic pair.

coloured denim Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

Who doesn’t love coloured denim? I’ve been in awe of this trend for many years. I’ve always liked making my outfits colourful and bright, so using jeans to help do that is definitely a huge hit in my book. I’m a big fan of the neon skinny jeans trend, not so much the pastel tones as they are a bit too pale for me, but the bolder and brighter hues are my personal favourites.

The colours I go for the most would be pinks, reds and purples, I seem to drift towards them often, however I do like changing it up and wearing bright yellow or orange, that’s always interesting! I think coloured denim just makes your personality seem a little more playful to an outsider. In my personal opinion it shows you might not take yourself too seriously and love colour. I know loads of people are a fan of this trend, including many celebs. Do you love it too?

polka dot denim Editors Top 5 Denim Trends

Now polka dot is my favourite print on jeans! I was thinking to myself, which one should I pick between polka dot, floral or random prints, but polka dot takes it for me. I love the retro vibe that it gives off and how much fun you can have with them! Believe it or not, the print is actually much more versatile than you might think.

I’m not sure if I would dress it up, perhaps I might if I had a black pair, but the coloured pairs are the most easiest to wear during the day for casual or semi-casual wear. They add a lot of character and life to your outfit and you just need to throw on a t-shirt and flats and it will already look bold and statement making. I find mine to be the easiest to wear when I want something extra, but don’t want to go over the top creating my look. So, what are some of your favourite trends? Comment and let me know!

7 For All Mankind Gummy Gwenevere in Dark Violet

Coloured denim is my absolute favourite trend this season! I think having brightly coloured jeans for Summer is just so fun! They always make me think of fresh fruits and popsicles as well as flowers. They just scream Summer to me! Especially the pinks/reds/oranges and yellow tones. Those are the brightest. I’m really glad that the trend has exploded in the past few months and all of the brands have brought out brightly coloured jeans! It’s wonderful.

I have included a selection of my favourite coloured denim at the moment and links under each image of where to buy them. I’ve used a lot of different brands and shades in this post with all different price points. What are some of your favourites? I love the 7 For All Mankind leggings above! They remind me of blackcurrants and the pretty watermelon shade of the Joe’s Jeans below. I think a pair of yellow jeans are next on my wish list as well! Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

Pink, red and purple colored denim has been popping up on celebrities everywhere, from Blake Lively to Sarah Jessica Parker. After seeing this post about Cameron Diaz’s Rag and Bone jeans, I knew I had to do a Steal Her Style post. I love Cameron’s look here! Check out some ideas to get a similar look below:

Siwy Hannah Slim Crop Jean in Desert Rose:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

Kelly Brook recently wore these jeans. They’re a great slim fit, slightly cropped jean in a light pink color, very similar to Cameron’s Rag and Bone jeans. Available for purchase at Singer22.com for $174.00.

Rag & Bone Zipper Skinny Jeans:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

Also from Rag and Bone, these jeans offer more of a bolder statement than the lipstick pink. Red is quickly becoming a new neutral. Purchase these jeans from Shopbop.com for $198.00.

Paige Premium Verdugo Jeggings:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

Blake Lively recently wore these jeans and they’re perfect for fall and winter. The velvet makes these a bit dressier but can easily be dressed up or down. Buy them now for the rest of winter then break them out again next fall! Buy them at Paigeusa.com for $179.00. You can also read Lorna’s review on these jeans here.

James Jeans Twiggy in Pale Rose:

twiggy palerose1 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

These jeans are a paler version of pink and they come in the wonderful Twiggy legging fit that everyone is a fan of. They will combine the pastel shades for Spring while still being comfortable and soft. They wont be available until next month so keep an eye out for them!

ASOS Minimum Washed Colored Denim Jeans:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

These jeans are similar both in style and color to both the Rag and Bone and Siwy jeans but are a much more affordable price. They’re available at ASOS.com for $61.86

Gap Cropped Legging Jeans:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

These cropped jeggings offer two trends in one, both a jegging and colored denim. A super slim, stretch fit is great for showing off your legs. Buy them at Gap.com for $59.50 (other colors also available).

Forever 21 Capris:

 Steal Her Style: Colored Denim

A bright red, cropped jean capri is perfect for spring and summer. This super stretch pair from Forever21.com is only $17.80 and a perfect way to try this trend without breaking the bank.

New Brand: M2F™ Brand Denims & DenimBlog Exclusive Interview

11.30.2010 Posted in Designer Jean Interviews, new brands by Lorna, Editor

cover image w logo New Brand: M2F™ Brand Denims & DenimBlog Exclusive Interview

I was recently introduced to a new brand of denim that I have fallen in love with! M2F™ is a denim company that has a very different look on its jeans and the washes. They are an eco-friendly, authentic, vintage denim brand that produce their jeans in eleven colors previously unavailable in the denim marketplace. The Jeans are individually colored in a dye bath that uses 50% less energy & water, while eliminating 100% of the toxic chemicals typical of traditional textile dyeing procedures. Together, these dynamic breakthroughs enabled the company to develop a different kind of denim brand, one committed to preserving the environment and the avant-garde.

We got an interview with M2F™ Brand Denims President and Head Designer, Terry Siegel. He spoke to us about the reason behind the brand, the new styles, the washes, the colours and more! Carry on reading to find out about this brand.

DB: How did you come up with the name M2F?

Unlike any other jean brand in the world, our company was founded on a yarn technology we invented titled Made 2 Fade Technology™. We produce yarn in our own factory, then ship it to a denim mill who weaves Made 2 Fade fabric. The net result of our yarn technology produces Made 2 Fade denim, which we shortened to M2F Brand Denims as our trade name.

DB: What inspired you the most when creating your brand?

The company was founded on the premise that no jean brand in the history of fashion has been able to produce an unlimited number of colors that fade and abrade like traditional blue jeans. Our colors include shades of blue that have never been done, in addition to hundreds of shades outside the blues.

One of our monikers is we’re “not just another blue jean company.” That says it all. As a result of our proprietary Made 2 Fade yarn, we are the first company in the world to produce colored jeans that look exactly like indigo based blue jeans after stone washing, sanding and grinding. This includes the white yarns visible on the outside of the jeans as color chips and fades from the surface.

DB: Why did you decide to make faded colour washes?

Our design philosophy is to offer colored jeans and denim casualwear in the type of sophisticated washes and finishes used by premium jean companies in LA. Consumers around the world have never seen colored denim in truly vintage finishes. Colored denim has been around for years, but only in solid dyed twill fabrics, where the fully saturated color penetrates the yarns core, making it impossible to fade and abrade the colors.

The properties of our breakthrough yarn technology allows me to design deep fall tones, rich jewel tones, soft pastels or summer brights, than fade the full shade back so the color looks like it’s been naturally faded through years of wear and tear.

DB: Do you have a favorite jean you have designed?

We offer an assortment of styles, including a relaxed fit straight leg jean, retro modern boot cut jean, slim fit skinny leg jean and bohemian flare leg jean. In addition, we have two signature short styles in our mini and classic cuffed models. All of our styles are produced from a single Made 2 Fade fabric that uses fine gauge combed cotton yarns and 2% spandex to create jeans and shorts that feel like their ten years old. More than any one style, I have an ongoing fascination with the hand feel of our jeans and the endless number of nature based colors and vintage washes & finishes we create each season.

DB: What is the best feature of M2F (fit, wash, pockets, etc)

Women of all ages rave about the comfort and fit of our jeans and how much fun they have wearing truly vintage jeans in colors they’ve never seen before.

DB: What are your denim predictions for next season?

I think it’s getting tougher to gain the attention of consumers who shop boutiques for their jeans. They are looking for a reason to buy a new pair of jeans, whether that means a wash or finish they’ve yet to see, a new kind of fabric or a color. Denim designers must continue to challenge themselves to create innovative, yet commercially acceptable looks that separate their brands from what others are doing.

DB: Can you tell us a bit more about your brand?

We’re shipping over 100 stores in the USA. In addition, we have orders from retailers in Japan, Switzerland, Italy, France, Canada and Australia for next spring. In a tough economy, it’s truly amazing that so many boutiques are willing to pioneer an unknown brand of vintage colored jeans, given we’ve been in business less than a year. Stores tell us women of all ages from 15 to 70 love our colors, the soft & pliable nature of our waistband and fabric and the way the jeans fit them throughout their day. Whether or not a store places an order with us the first time they see the collection, one thing is for sure: They’ve never seen a denim based collection of jeans and shorts that look like M2F Brand Denims.

DB: What makes your brand so different from others out there?

Unlike any jean brand in existence today, M2F denim products are based on a yarn and fabric technology we invented. That technology alone makes it possible for us to create a collection of vintage jeans that look and feel different than other jean brands throughout the world. Our five step finishing process starts with individually dyeing each M2F garment, which in turn gives us the flexibility to design the unique colors, faded washes and vintage finishes that are M2F Brand Denims.

DB: Lastly, is there anything else you would like to add that we haven’t asked you?

We are changing the way women think about jeans…..one color at a time.
