Miranda Kerr was caught out and about with her husband Orlando Bloom in New York. She wore her favorite Nobody jeans, the Cult Skinny in Code. Miranda never ceases to amaze me. She always looks so fresh. You rarely ever see her wear a cake of make-up on her face. She is one, like Megan Fox, that really does not need it.
Miranda sure had a great fashion week season this time. Usually she would be an exclusive at Balenciaga, but it looks like she opted out (a bit bummed) and decided to go for Chanel, Stella, McCartney, Lanvin, and more. Which is great to hear, because I always thought she was able to do both commercial and high-fashion.
Mary-Kate Olsen was caught at JFK Airport arriving back in New York with sister Ashley. She wore her custom-made Maxfields Jeans again with a Balenciaga sweater. I just love that sweater. It makes me think of Bret from Flight of the Concords. Looks like they have gotten even more wear since our last sighting. The knees are really blown out now. I wonder if they’ll get another pair made for them again?
I wonder how Mary-Kate and Ashley are feeling about all the Oscar buzz around their sister Elizabeth. There is a ton right now surrounding her for her role in Martha Marcy May Marlene. Mary-Kate has been nominated for an Emmy before, but this would be the first Oscar nomination for an Olsen. Have any of you seen or will be going to see the thriller? What are your thoughts?
Okay…this collection has gotten some not so great reviews by the masses. I have to say that it is not as bad as people are putting it out to be. Maybe it is due to the fact that I look at the pieces individually instead of all together when I look at the photos for fashion week. Individually the pieces work, all together…better styling could have helped, I will admit. I think a slicked back ponytail or a pin-straight middle parting would have done better justice. He also had some fit issues, but nothing a client cannot fix themselves.
I also think it is a hodge podge of many other designers. Mostly Mugler, Gareth Pugh, Rick Owens, with some Balenciaga, Pucci, and Celine. Many found this the biggest issue. I have to point out though, when a mood board is put together; are designers not inspired by looks that other designers put together in the photos? You are not going to see a Native American wear Michael Kors or Frida Kahlo wear Moschino or even a Gypsy wear Pucci. So Kanye is not the only one who is guilty of this. Case in point, many get inspired by what others create. It is just made more apparent because of the name he possesses. Overall…I think the collection is not as bad as people think. You can click through some of the looks from the debut DW by Kanye West Spring 2012 show below and maybe next season we will see if Kanye just possesses great style or actually has an eye for talent.
Balenciaga is a show that I look forward to each season. Nicolas Ghesquière just always gets it right for me each time. There is always a sense of past, present, and future in the looks. This season was no different either.
There were tons of high-waisted styles, from the jeans to the trousers to the bloomers. I love the looks of the jackets. The color choices in the paneling was just perfect, they just compliment each other so well. You can click through the some of the looks below.
