Donna Karan gets punked by PETA

How far would you go for animals? Some of our favorite denim designers use leather in their back pocket designs like the pair of Paige Premium Denim jeans below (leather on the Paige logo). Would you stop wearing them because they use leather? And do you think what PETA is doing to designers like Donna Karan is right?

Donna Karan just got punked by PETA! The fur loving designer’s home was raided by a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protestor who worked her way in with lattes. I’m not making this up, either. PETA is out to get Karan for using fur in her fashions. To get back at the fiesty designer, PETA sent someone to Donna’s swanky Central Park West pad to let her have it.

A reprentative for PETA, Michael McGraw, says the group sent “a fashionably dressed young woman, clad in knee-high black boots and a denim miniskirt” to her apartment where she was welcomed with open arms (at first).

The girl also carried a DVD player and waited patiently for Karan to arrive back at home. When Donna showed up, the PETA protestor played a video of animals being slaughtered for fur.

“I can’t watch this now. I have somewhere to be,” Karan told the PETA lady. “I just really don’t have the time.”

“I’ve seen all these [videos], but for me it’s just purses and accessories,” Donna added.

To that the PETA rep fired back, “But for me and millions of other people, these are animals. They suffer terribly as they are electrocuted, gassed and skinned alive for their pelts.”

Meanwhile, she was bounced from Karan’s apartment as the doorman and assistant were skinned!

Do you think its right what the PETA did?

I don’t see how she was punked. But keep posting quality information from gaysocialites.com.

Let’s not be homophobic. This story was posted on other sites as well. The question is how do our readers feel about PETA’s actions and do they avoid designer denim which contains leather detailing?

PETA is always doing crazy stuff. They cross the line frequently it seems.

Let all 100 of our editors keep making assumptions about my words. The “punked” language was used by the gaysocialites.com author. I thought that to be a bit of a mis-characterization of what actually happened; thus my mention of the source.

By urban dictionary’s definition, “Punked = A way to describe someone ripping you off, tricking you, teasing you.” I would say Donna Karan definetely got tricked by letting a PETA person into her home. And I don’t find gay sites to have any less reliable information than any other site, that is all I was saying…

False. She did not let the PETA activist into her home.

You are correct, her assistant did. We can only assume Donna was tricked into thinking the PETA person was there for some other purpose.

  8. 8 Infinite42 Feb 11th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

What? No, we don’t “only” have to assume that. But I’m glad you’re still making assumptions without regard to facts. Keep up the good work!

I didn’t say we “only” have to assume anything. But we can only go by what’s printed. Anything you read on the internet is not necessarily true and remains up for interpretation. And I wouldn’t say that the NY Post’s Page Six is any more (or less) reliable when it comes to facts than my source. I can’t fathom why Donna would intentionally let a PETA person into her home, or why her assistant would either - what is your theory? And why all the negativity? Can’t we all just get along?

“We can only assume Donna was tricked….” Care to amend the first sentence of your latest post?

My original beef (take that, PETA) with you posting this story had to do with the mis-characterization that DK was “punked.” From there, I’ve done nothing but correct you, including in this post. It has nothing to do with negativity or not getting along.

It still seems to me that she was “punked” or tricked or mislead or whatever you want to call it way based on the news stories, it does not seem that she would intentionally let PETA into her home or sit down with someone from PETA, since they’ve been targeting her for quite awhile now. And the punked came from the original news article - I post ‘em as I see ‘em.

PETA seriously needs to get a life or something. Fine for having an organization that helps protect exploitation and suffering of animals, but just because they don’t agree with people wearing fur and other animal products doesn’t mean PETA have the right to force their views on others. If they have a problem with a company, person, or designer using animal products, simply just not buy the product instead of making themselves look like a bunch of jackasses!!!

    yea…. this is just ridiculous
i’m not a fan of fur but that is WAY out of line! WAY OUT OF LINE!

PETA has some ridiculous assumptions. I grew up in a small farm community and was an officer in the FFA and during my senior year PETA accused our organization of abusing animals and (i’m not even joking) they based this assumption on an incident that happened two years prior where a boy in Oregon sodomized a pig and the school he went to had FFA so they said the FFA influenced him to do it… there was absolutely no truth to the article and the FFA organization filed a lawsuit.

    ridiculous
