Black Market Denim Party Sting: Why You Should Not Buy Fakes!

fake-jeans.jpg

You’ve got to watch this video - watch the whole thing, its about 4 and a half minutes long - and check out all the fake jeans these two were peddling from their home - over $300,000 worth!  This video also explains exactly why buying OR selling fake designer merchandise is bad for all of us.

Why buying/selling fakes is bad:

  • Selling fake jeans (or any fake goods) is illegal!
  • Buying fake goods is not illegal but that is being looked at as a possible new law so don’t buy them!
  • Buying fake good supports terrorism - and there is evidence selling fakes contributed to the funding of the 1993 World Trade Center bombings!
  • Buying fake goods supports child labor!
  • Buying or selling fake goods from China takes jobs away from Americans!
  • Wearing fake jeans is tacky! (Okay so I threw that last one in there!  But it’s true!)

Apple Bottom is the #5 most searched denim brand on the web. Seriously.

apple-bottom-jeans.jpg

Apple Bottom Jeans is doing well on the web it seems. The brand is the #5 most searched denim brand according to Women’s Wear Daily.  Quite an achievement because the top four are Rock & Republic, True Religion, Diesel, and Guess!  Can you believe it?  To what do you think they attribute their success? Maybe its that song by Flo Rida…”Apple Bottom Jeans…Boots With The Fur…”.  My guy asked me the other day what the heck Apple Bottom jeans were.  UGLY I responded!  Not to be a jeans snob, well…okay, call me what you will, but Apple Bottoms are hideous in my opinion, and just another reason why celebs should not attempt to design jeans.  (Apple Bottoms are designed by rap star Nelly).  How could #5 not have been 7 for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, or even Levi’s for goodness sake!

Would you wear Apple Bottom jeans, if they were the last jeans on earth?

Not just anyone can charge designer denim prices, or can they?

*Snicker snicker*

You have to just laugh at this. Kellogg’s Brand Cereal has come out with their own line of high-priced denim and other Kellogg’s related clothing. Yep, you read that right. And their hoodies and jeans are retailing at $110-120 each.

Yikes: New 70’s style jeans from Jovovich-Hawk

jovovich-jeans.jpg

Jovovich-Hawk is known for their cute and casual, slightly hippy designs, and are now even designing for Target, which is super cool.  But then we spotted these Jovovich-Hawk Stevie Jeans.  Oh dear, where to start?!  The 70’s are back right now, which is why we are seeing higher waists and bell bottom-y flares but this is just too much!  Yikes!  Would you buy these?  They retail for $295 at ShopBop.

Bad guys strike again: $20K in jeans stolen from a Salt Lake boutique

stolen-jeans.jpg

From Salt Lake City:

If someone approaches you in a parking lot and offers True Religion jeans for a killer price, you might be dealing with a thief. Someone recently stole 50 to 60 pairs of designer jeans from So Cal Style, at 7634 S. Union Park Avenue, and police hope the public can help them catch the suspect.

The break-in took place some time between 10 p.m. Feb. 16, and the following Monday morning. The suspect removed a window, dismantled the alarm system and disabled the video surveillance system.

Sandy City Police Sgt. Victor Quezada said the suspect seemed to be familiar with the store and had most likely cased the property several times before striking. The store was equipped with breaking-glass sensors and motion sensors, both of which the suspect managed to avoid.

Police have video footage of the suspect coming in and disabling the video system, but Quezada said police have little to go on. The suspect appears to be a younger male with a slight build.

Quezada said it is unclear if he is a juvenile or adult. He was wearing a gray or black hooded sweatshirt and a scarf or mask covered the lower part of his face, making it impossible for police to determine his race.

Quezada said it is likely the suspect plans to resell the jeans, which have a retail value of about $20,000, and use the profits to buy drugs.

“Bad guys, they’ll steal anything they can sell,” Quezada said. “They’ll take it and turn it into narcotics.”

Store owner Jason Ayre said the majority of stolen merchandise were designer men’s jeans in a variety of sizes. The brands stolen include Antik Denim, Diesel, True Religion and Chip & Pepper, which all generally retail for between $200 to $300 per pair. The styles taken are all fairly rare, and Ayre said they are unlikely to be found in any other local stores.

Ayre said that the loss of $20,000 in merchandise is a hard blow to his small business, but that he expects to recoup some of the loss through insurance. He is now turning his focus to catching the thief, offering a $1,500 reward. He has also started a Web site featuring the surveillance video from the heist, www.socal-style.com. The site also features descriptions of the stolen items, and Ayre plans to post pictures of the jeans soon.

“If I can at least get it to stop so it doesn’t happen to someone else, that’s my goal,” Ayre said.

Quezada said the suspect might try to sell the jeans out of his car, at a swap meet or on eBay. If you see someone with a large quantity of jeans for sale who does not seem to be a reputable vendor, please call the Sandy City Police tip line at 801-568-4636.

The case is dead until police receive more information, Quezada said.

* To view video of the suspect, visit www.socal-style.com. If you have any information, please call the Sandy City Police tip line at 801-568-4636.

Okay denim fans - watch out for a large quantity of jeans on Ebay and report it if you see anything fishy! You have to feel bad for this store owner, he was just trying to make a living making denim lover’s rear-ends look fab, and then this happens! Shame!

Colored jeans - Hot or Not for Spring 2008?

colored denim

We were browsing RevolveClothing.com and noticed a lot of colored denim on sale…will the trend come back for Spring?  We are of the opinion that only neutral toned jeans (black, blue, beige, brown, etc.) are okay.  We won’t be caught dead in pink jeans.  Are we alone in this or is this trend finally going to die - what do you think?

Now we’ve seen it all…

Schultz Jeans

If you want a laugh, check out SchultzJeans.com.  We normally try to be nice, but this is just comical to us.

From their website:

Thanks to the revolutionary new Schultz strap*, there’s a whole new way of wearing jeans. If you like your jeans low-slung or even open at the fly, the Schultz strap keeps your jeans on and your hands free from constantly hitching them up.   Worn at the front on the inside of the jeans, the Schultz strap gives sufficient support to even allow you to wear your Schultz jeans with the fly open, displaying your new designer Schultz underwear (and anything else you may feel like showing off!)”

Ahem, okay, forgive us, but WHO wears their jeans open at the fly in order to show off their junk?!  Hello?!  Just buy jeans that aren’t too big and they won’t fall down!  This website mostly sells underwear but now they have jeans with matching underwear and the “Schultz Strap” you can buy too.

Are we the only ones who think this is hilariously funny?  Or would you guys out there actually buy these?

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again…

Grey Ant high waisted denim

…Thou shalt NOT wear Mom jeans.  Or jeans that resemble Mom jeans in the least!  ShopBop has this disturbing pair of SUPER high waisted mom looking jeans for $330 - made by Grey Ant.  How can a designer we’ve not even heard of yet charge $330 for a pair of jeans that comes up to the belly button?!  Now that’s what we call a high rise!

This is another pair we suspect we’ll find on the clearance rack in no time!

High waisted jeans = Mom jeans?!

high waisted denim

There’s higher rise, and then there’s very high waisted denim.  We don’t know - somehow high waisted jeans still feel like “mom jeans” to us.

Check out these celebs (Jaslene from America’s Next Top Model, Mary J. Blige, and Jennifer Lopez, left to right) in their high waisted denim.  Do you love this trend or think its a flash in the pan?  We are steering clear of the high waisted jeans unless this trend dies down.  We’d feel like such a fatty in these unless we were about a size 0 or 2!  Is this trend really wearable for the vast majority of women?

UGGH. What were they thinking?

Seven For all Mankind skirt

In searching for deals of the day - we ran across this. At first glance (above), its a super hot pencil skirt from Seven for All Mankind that looks sexy and sophisticated! But then look at the back (below). SFAM - what were you thinking? Who wants a big white skull on their bum? Ugggggly!
