Smart & Classic
Denim shorts are an absolute must have for Summer as they are incredibly versatile, pairing with anything, while keeping you cool at the same time. There are so many variations of denim shorts, from longer to short, looser to tight, cuffed to raw and more! There’s literally a pair for everyone. I have styled four different looks here using four very different shorts and have created outfits for each occasion, including something smarter and classy, a festival look, colour blocking and a tomboy style.
The first look above is definitely something you can wear to a meeting (if you work in fashion) or even to a concert and lunch out with friends etc, it’s very versatile. I was inspired by Ashley Tisdale’s most recent look for this one, but I wanted to show that boyfriend shorts don’t just have to be paired with baggy clothes and worn casually. They can definitely be dressed up! Layering over a cream blazer and wearing some ankle boots, with chic jewellery is the way to go!
The Mercy style by J Brand is their most popular since the Houlihans and since the original version, J Brand has released the Chrome wash that has already become a favorite for celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian and Elie Goulding. They are one that I can only see getting more popular along with the rise of grey denim. As being one of my favorite choices this season, I decided to style them three different ways this week.
Just because these are distressed and have a raw hem, it doesn’t mean that they can’t look smart. Think of them in a Geraldine Saglio sense when styling them. I chose to pair them with a classic white button down from TOPSHOP and pumps by Alexander Wang. Then for the accessories, I wanted pieces that were clean, like this Diane von Furstenberg clutch and Cartier bracelet. You can wear something like this to a meeting or even a night out for some cocktails.
Grey denim and stripes go hand-in-hand as we should all know by now with the help of Kate Moss and recently Harry Styles. I chose a t shirt by R13 for its luscious feel and the width of the stripes are on point. I then wanted to get a bit more inspired by Harry by pairing them with a pair of Saint Laurent boots and a TOPSHOP beanie. Then as we all have things to carry, the amazing Chanel backpack.
Here is a look that is a mix of both smart and casual above. As you know grey on grey is a favorite of mine. I chose a t shirt by A.P.C. to pair with the jeans as I found the slightly different tone to work well with it. I then chose a blazer by Rag & Bone to smarten it up and some Marant boots to keep it more on the casual side. To finish it off, a Balenciaga because you really can’t go wrong with this bag.
-How many of you own these jeans and how have you been wearing them?
I went to the beach this past weekend and in a way, I got inspired by it. I wanted to do a look that you can lounge in after running around the beach and be comfortable. Boyfriend jeans always come to mind when I think of that type of mood and these R13 Boyfriend Jeans in Selvedge Blue Shredded offer an easy vibe that is still cool with the slight cropped fit and distressing.
As it is a lounge look, I wanted to keep everything pretty breezy. I paired the jeans with a white chambray shirt by TOPSHOP because boyfriend jeans and a button up are pretty much best friends. I then chose the shoes of the moment, Birkenstocks, as wearing any other style of shoe besides sandals would not be ideal. Then to finish the look off, a Rolex as you can wear it since you are just hanging and a TOPSHOP backpack to carry all your essentials. How many of you are planning to hang at the beach this weekend?
My weekend going out look this week features the Current/Elliott The Stiletto Pencil Skirt in Shredded. I’ve been a huge fan of the denim pencil skirt trend for a while and think they can look so chic when worn right. They can look mature rather than young and sophisticated, not trashy.
For this look, I paired the skirt with a 7 For All Mankind Denim Shirt which I would wear tucked in. I then chose these Brian Atwood Sema Wedges to give the look some ease. To add some brightness, I went with a Victoria Beckham Yellow Tote and a Yellow Statement Necklace. I then went for some Debutante Pearl Stud Earrings, a EF Collection Arrow Ring, a Adina by Adina Reyter Star Ring and a pair of Victoria Beckham Aviators. I would definitely wear this look in the day time!
