For my weekend going out look, I wanted to do something that I don’t usually do or wear myself. My style has changed a lot lately and evolved over time, so at the moment I am in a dressing up boyfriend jeans phase. To create this outfit, I chose the GOLDSIGN Stevie Blue Distressed Jeans as I love the fit, wash and distressing on them.
To make this outfit chic and give it a stylish vibe, I paired the jeans with a Vince Button Up Shirt as it’s crisp and chose a pair of Gianvito Rossi Pumps in navy as they really pair well with the white and denim. Since I see this as a work outfit, if you work in the fashion industry, I went with a Victoria Beckham Liberty Leather Tote to hold all of your stuff. As this outfit has no colour, I added some in by opting for a Yellow Statement Necklace just to tie it together. To finish things off, you can’t be without a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and a statement ring, like this Maud Diamond Ring. Would you wear an outfit like this? Or do you have these jeans?
As per tradition, each of us here always styles a look for an occasion, whether it’s Halloween, New Years Eve or Independence Day (like this one), we always make sure that the look is centred around the theme. Since the 4th of July is very patriotic and American, these looks are made up of red, white and blue pieces, just like the American flag. Each of us took a shade of denim and this is what we came up with!
For my outfit above, I chose the Frame Denim Le Color Rip skinny jeans in Blanc as the base as my denim option was white. I think these are a great white skinny and the rips just add that little bit of casualness to the overall feel. I then paired the jeans with a sleeveless Equipment shirt in red, and chose a YSL Navy Clutch, completing the red, white and blue combination. For the shoes, I wanted a classic black heel to dress things up so I went with the Gianvito Rossi black suede pumps. I wanted to keep the jewellery minimal, meaning I only opted for a single gold bangle by Jeweliq. Finally, as I’m being very patriotic (despite being British), I chose an American flag headband, just to have some fun with the look.
As 4th of July is a holiday that basically revolves around BBQ and the pool, I did a look that will suit both activities for the men. I chose a more affordable denim shirt choice by River Island to pair with a pair of swimming trunks by RVCA. I absolutely love RVCA’s trunks, so I definitely recommend these. As many will be going in and out of the pool, practical shoes are a necessity. I chose a pair of driving shoes by Tod’s. Then of course to finish it all off, a pair of classic Ray-Bans. It won’t be a summer event without sunglasses.
I wanted to focus my 4th of July outfit around a casual setting and style something that would be perfect for the beach or a BBQ. I chose this Isabel Marant print dress because the blue and white print is so fresh. It is a great light piece that would work both as a dress or swim suit cover up. I layered this red Marc by Marc Jacobs denim jacket over the dress, which would be perfect for when temperatures drop during the evening. I loved the patriotic touch of the gold and stars on these Loeffler Randall sandals and the functionality of this straw cross body bag from Scoop. I added a little luxurious touch with these gold and moonstone earrings from Monica Vinader.
I find that in the summer, I tend to gravitate toward simpler, more casual looks. The last thing I want to do when it is hot out, is to put on lots of tight fitting clothes. For my weekend look, I chose these slouchy Rag & Bone boyfriend shorts in Rebel because they are great for wearing to the pool or out running errands.
I chose this Ralph Lauren gingham shirt because the linen is great for hotter days and can be worn a few different ways. I then went with these blue striped espadrilles from Soludos to add another bit of pattern and contrast to the outfit. I finished the look with these white Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses and a splash of color with this Reed Krakoff bag.
Smart & Classic
Denim shorts are an absolute must have for Summer as they are incredibly versatile, pairing with anything, while keeping you cool at the same time. There are so many variations of denim shorts, from longer to short, looser to tight, cuffed to raw and more! There’s literally a pair for everyone. I have styled four different looks here using four very different shorts and have created outfits for each occasion, including something smarter and classy, a festival look, colour blocking and a tomboy style.
The first look above is definitely something you can wear to a meeting (if you work in fashion) or even to a concert and lunch out with friends etc, it’s very versatile. I was inspired by Ashley Tisdale’s most recent look for this one, but I wanted to show that boyfriend shorts don’t just have to be paired with baggy clothes and worn casually. They can definitely be dressed up! Layering over a cream blazer and wearing some ankle boots, with chic jewellery is the way to go!
