It’s been a while since I styled a pair of jeans for the men. For this post I chose the Joe’s Brixton in King because they are a classic blue wash and a fit that are favored by many men already. Being that it is Winter, I wanted to keep everything monochromatic. I chose a navy color scheme instead of the usual black and grey that is seen often, but there is a hint of color in the second look. See both looks below.
This is probably the equivalent to the all black look, but in navy. I also wanted to play around with denim quite a bit and up’d the denim factor by making it a triple denim look. I paired the jeans with a Diesel Black Gold shirt, Diesel Belt, Vintage Shoe Company boots, Jean.Machine jacket, and Rag & Bone cardigan. To keep the look from looking one note and a bit depressing, I added a brown belt and boots to break up all the dark blue.
I added a bit of color to this look with the Henrik Vibskov sweater, but the navy color scheme is still present throughout. The jeans are styled with the same boots as above and a coat by Lardini. I always say a look with a coat is only as good as what is underneath. You are not going to wear a coat all day, so you need something that will still make you look great without it. I find this sweater does just that when it is paired with a simple pair of jeans.
So how many of you are going to choose navy over the usual blacks and greys this season?
We’ve been having some unseasonably warm weather on the East Coast and it has me in the mood for Spring! Keeping the warmer weather in mind and the fact I wanted to do something different for my Weekend Going Out look, I chose these Rag & Bone Mila shorts in gray to style. I really like the gray wash and slight distressing.
However, since it is still January and to keep them weather appropriate, I layered them over a pair of Miss Selfridge black opaque tights. For a top, I chose this leather Chicnova tee shirt because I like that the shape is more casual and the leather gives it a dressier feel, perfect for going out. For the accessories, I wanted a black boot that would look good paired with the tights and I liked the subtle studs on these Giuseppe Zanotti booties. To add some color, I chose this Clare Vivier green clutch, this colorful Iosselliani necklace, and a bold orange ring from Kenneth Jay Lane. I think this look could work equally as well once the weather warms up by skipping the tights and swapping the booties for a pair of sandals or heels.
Surfer/Aquatic themes have had moments on the runway the past couple of seasons. Riccardo Tisci designed a surfer inspired collection for Givenchy Spring 2012. Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by the lightness of the sea for Chanel, while Sarah Burton went the opposite route, getting inspiration from the hardness of mollusks and crustaceans for McQueen’s Spring 2012.
Not a full aquatic theme, but always one to use innovative textiles is Nicolas Ghesquière. At his last collection for Balenciaga, he sent down looks made of neoprene. So for this post, I thought it would be appropriate, as well as fun, to style the J Brand Scuba Jeans in Odyssey. They are a pair that I always found unique and innovative. When have you heard of a pair of neoprene jeans before? They really should get more notice than they do. You can see the looks that I came up with below.
For this look, I wanted to do something that was grunge inspired, but still looks presentable. Which is an oxymoron, but I think I achieved that. I paired the pants with a Bottega Veneta lace t shirt and beanie, T by Alexander Wang long sleeve, Jimmy Choo pumps, and finished the look off with some cuffs by Hervé Van Der Straeten. The look of an oversized shirt always needs some type of jewelry on the wrists in my opinion. I think wearing these cuffs worn over the long sleeve will give a certain chicness to the look without overwhelming the overall vibe of it.
For my weekend going out look this time around, I decided to create a day look for going out shopping. I usually do smarter evening outfits, so I thought I would change it up a little bit as not everyone ends up going out in the evening on the weekends.
I chose these James Jeans Twiggy Coated Leggings in Java as I love the coated brown colour due to its versatility. I paired the jeans with a Marc by Marc Jacobs Geraldine Sweater in cream to keep it looking neutral and a pair of ASOS Marv Flat Shoes in light brown for comfort and classic style. I finished it off with a Marc By Marc Jacobs Flipping Out Top Handle Colorblocked Bag to carry all your necessities and added a Minor Obsessions by Finn Sparkle Star And Anchor Necklace and a River Island Gold Tone Swallow Necklace for some flair.
This look is definitely something I would wear myself during the day time and I love the combination of brown, creams and blacks with gold. It looks lovely together and even though it’s really simple and classic, the colours work well together to give it a warm and bold vibe. What do you think of the outfit?
