Styling Jeans
Styling the Hazel in Speedster by DL1961
DL1961 asked us to style their new motorcycle jeans, the Hazel in Speedster. These jeans are a new take on their classic motorcycle trend. They have details such as ribbing at the thigh and zippers in a clean super skinny silhouette.
Even though these jeans are a standout piece of their own, I found that you can still go graphic with the look by pairing them with contrasting black and white. I decided to do the contrasting part with the tops by pairing together a DressedUndressed turtleneck under a Tibi silk camisole. I finished it off with a pair of Balenciaga ankle boots. Another reason why I chose this type of layering, over the usual coat, is because it is a bit unexpected. It sounds like it shouldn’t work, but looks very chic when worn. How many of you will be layering your looks like this with these jeans?
How to Dress For the Winter: Men’s Edition
I got the assignment to style the looks for the winter months for both coasts (NY/LA) for the men. For both looks, I chose the Nudie Grim Tim in White Knee (buy here) to revolve my looks around. Although they are the same jeans, the looks are completely different and I think they embody both coasts perfectly.
For the New York/East Coast look, I played with color, texture, and of course major layering. The style in New York is also more smart and many times serious. By adding this bright red structured coat by Giuliano Fujiwara, I thought, would still keep the look clean but liven it up with the color. With the jacket being so bright, I wanted to keep everything minimal, with a denim shirt by Daniele Alessandrini, scarf by Horiyoshi the Third, hat by Brixton, belt by Rag & Bone, and loafers by Burberry. I find that the accessories also help pull the look together without having the outfit look too severe because it is never fun when you look serious.
In California, well Southern California to be honest, we don’t really understand cold compared to the rest of the country. We just incorporate in an additional layer such as a jacket (Topman) and/or scarf to our usual t shirt (Ksubi) and jeans looks. Even though the style usually does venture into the more casual side, I wanted to smarten it up with the Modern Vice Jodphur boots. I also find that the fit of these jeans suit more clean shoes such as loafers and boots compared to a pair of sneakers. Regardless of the title of the looks, these can be interchanged and worn on either coasts. It is just a matter of taste. So which of these do you prefer more?
Weekend Going Out Look: Ksubi Boyfriend Jeans in Midnight and Dusted
I realized that we haven’t done a look revolving around a pair of boyfriend jeans. Since boyfriend jeans are just as stylish as skinny jeans these days, I thought it would be great to use them for my Going Out post this week.
I chose the Ksubi Boyfriend Jeans in Midnight and Dusted with a Helmut Lang blazer to smarten up the distressing of the jeans. To still keep it fresh and young, I chose a Boy London t shirt and to keep the look feminine, I added a Dannijo Harley necklace and Bottega Veneta sandals. I think adding a messy cuff to the jeans is all you need to finish this look to be ready for the night out.
Weekend Going Out Look: Current/Elliott Low Rise Skinny in Cobalt Velvet
For my weekend going out look, I chose these velvet Current/Elliott Low Rise skinny jeans in this bright blue. I love velvet and think that it is such a luxurious fabric and is perfect for the winter. I was also really drawn to the bright blue color and I think the velvet makes it pop even more.
I chose this Sass & Bide blouse because I wanted to add a bit more color to the outfit with the pink, while the embellished neckline is a fun replacement for a necklace. I accessorized with these Tom Binns Pyramid stud earrings, Charlotte Olympia Dolly Pumps and this Alexander Wang Marion Bag. Because of the embellished neckline, I wanted to keep the rest of the jewelry minimal and I thought the Tom Binns earrings still stood out, but didn’t distract from the rest of the outfit. I chose a black purse and pumps with gold accents because I thought they tied in nicely with the black on the blouse, and the gold accents the blue color of the pants really well.
