New Labels to Love

US Weekly’s latest edition features an article on some hot new denim brands to watch for, above.  They include these hot new brands:

  • PRPS.  They hardly seem like a “new” brand to watch for, but Katie Holmes wearing them for two weeks straight has really put the brand in the spotlight.  If you really want to be like Katie, who wore Tom’s PRPS jeans, buy the men’s version of the jeans, available at eModa.

One that we think US Weekly forgot is Current/Elliott, which is one of the main brands to bring back the boyfriend jean.  You can find Current/Elliott at ELuxury.

Have you been wearing, or do you plan to wear any of these hot new labels?

How to wear Pegged Boyfriend Jeans

rachel-bilson-boyfriend-jeans.jpg

Everyone is talking about the new boyfriend jeans look, the trendy alternative to wearing cropped jeans it seems.  Especially hot is the new line by Current/Elliott.  Rachel Bilson, above, is spotted in rolled boyfriend jeans from Current/Elliott, and below, Katie Holmes in a pair of boyfriend jeans by PRPS.  Check out the tips below on how to wear your jeans pegged and rolled.

Excerpt from the article in LATimes.com called “The Comeback: Peg-and-Roll Pants“:

Proper proportions

Before you roll, choose jeans cut straight and loose through the leg but not wide (and never M.C. Hammer baggy). Look for a men’s fit — a worn-in pair of Levi’s 501s or soft cargoes are perfect. “They should sit low on your hips,” Current says. “They should be sexy and slinky, not big, baggy weekend jeans.”

In the fold

Key to the silhouette is the tapered leg. But if you don’t have tapered jeans (and who does?) and don’t want to tailor your bottoms, you can resort to the old junior high school practice of self-tapering (”Bring it back, I love it,” squeals Current). Just hold your pant leg taut, fold a section over the ankle, then tightly roll up the whole package. Just be careful not to taper pant legs so severely they look like they’re glued to your calf.

Make it a double

“We like a very messy thin roll, rolled twice so you see a little above the ankle,” said Current. Pants should look as though they were hiked up to go wading through a stream.

Body talk

Because the silhouette sits low on the hips and is cut loose, it works on both curvy and straight bodies. But the petite or short-waisted should opt for a slightly less pegged roll, so proportions aren’t so extreme.

Top it off

Skintight men’s tank tops, oversized T-shirts, frilly blouses — rolled jeans can be worn with most anything. But the silhouette looks best when the waistband is showing — so get tucking.

The extras

Because the pants are meant to hang on the hips, a cool belt is key to keeping them in place. Stylish options include raw leather, vintage-looking belts for day and skinnier, patent leather belts for night. The boyish look also lends itself to “more feminine, statement jewelry,” Current says — anything from long strands of pearls over a Hanes T-shirt to bunches of rhinestone brooches pinned to a tuxedo jacket lapel.

On your feet

Shoes are so bold and outrageous right now, and this jean shows them off. Gladiators, ballet flats and pumps (ones that cover the vamp of the foot work especially well) are all on the menu with rolled jeans. But leave the ankle boots in the closet, or you’ll risk looking like a Keebler elf.

You can find Current/Elliott at ELuxury or ShopBop and you can find PRPS at BlueBee or eModa if you love this new look.

Katie Holmes Watch: Please buy new jeans!

katie-holmes-baggy-jeans-again-and-again2.jpg>

We’ve had more posts about Katie Holmes lately and those god forsaken jeans…it’s like when Perez Hilton was covering Britney Spears’ drama 24/7.  Katie, for the love of fashion, please get some new jeans!  Did the maid quit doing laundry or what?!  Is she preggers and trying to hide under huge clothes?  I don’t get it - I’ve been in love with a pair of jeans before, but really - enough is enough!  Okay, that’s enough, no more Katie posts until she wears different jeans!

Celebs in Denim: Katie Holmes in PRPS Baggy Jeans (again)

katie-holmes-baggy-jeans-again.jpg

We don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but AGAIN Katie Holmes was spotted in those awful baggy jeans.  Does she think she’s responsible for getting the baggy jeans trend started or something?  No disrespect to PRPS, but we think these are men’s PRPS jeans, and they’d probably look hot on a guy, but on Katie, way too big.  Girl, get some new jeans!  Put your J Brand’s back on or something!

Trend Watch: Big & Baggy Denim

victoria-beckham-dvb-baggy-jeans.jpg

You heard it here first when we spotted Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes in their baggy denim - now US Weekly is on the Baggy Denim watch too!  Pssst, US Weekly, our sources tell us the jeans on Victoria are PRPS, not dVb, as we all originally thought!

Celebs in Denim: Katie Holmes in PRPS Baggy Jeans

katie-holmes-prps-baggy-jeans.jpg

Katie Holmes was spotted out and about yesterday in Hollywood wearing those super baggy PRPS jeans again and a Juicy Couture hoodie.  She usually looks so polished, I am not loving the super casual look on her.  Is Tom brainwashing Katie so much so that all her good fashion sense has been lost?  Say it ain’t so! At least this time she didn’t wear them pegged with sandals like she did before!
