New Jeans Trends
Los Angeles Fashion Week: Viridis Luxe Spring 2009

Viridis Luxe had some really rad denim contributions for Los Angeles Fashion Week. Some were No-No’s and some were fabulous. The continuation and theme seemed to be simply cuffed jeans- regardless of the level of distressing. The collection has some very apparent peaks and valleys. Overall, I’m impressed with denim and I wonder how it compares price wise to Alexander Wang.
Trend Spotting: Cuffed Denim Shorts with Tights?

Oh Katie – ever trying to be the denim diva! Katie Holmes stepped out in Manhattan on December 28th in a pair of cuffed denim shorts by See Thru Soul and stirrup tights with heels.

Katie helped bring back the boyfriend jean – will this tights with denim shorts look be the next trend in denim? Lily Allen recently sported a similar look, pairing a pair of denim shorts with fishnets. Would you dare?

Jil Sander to do Men’s Premium Denim Line

From Women’s Wear Daily:
Jil Sander’s creative director Raf Simons has turned his expert hand to premium denim clothes for men. The sleek tailored pieces, in off-white, blue or gray denim, will roll out to Jil Sander stores worldwide for spring, and come packaged in an exclusive navy box. Fashioned with traditional sartorial workmanship, the five-pocket pants are slim or boot-leg, while the skinny two-button blazers feature inner pockets and softly padded shoulders.
Raf Simon is genius and I’m sure these pieces will be gorgeous! I can’t WAIT to see more!

Are you into Ankle Zippers?
A couple of months back (October to be exact) I bought a pair of J Brand’s “The Deal” jeans …you know, the ones with the side ankle zippers.
At first I was hesitant. I hadn’t seen them worn yet, but 75% of me liked them off the bat. When I checked out however, I swore to my sales girl that I’d never wear them with the zippers open (ok, rarely). She promised me I’d change my mind. I have to admit, leaping back to the land of the ankle zipper felt strange at best, somewhat Madonna–but not in the Louis Vuitton way if you know what I mean. The last time I’d worn a pair personally was circa 1988– my hair in a very chic side pony.
As fashion changes, (and, yes, circles around), I am usually receptive. But, I’ve never been much into the 80′s trend although some people will disagree with me–saying that ankle zippers are not ’80′s at all–Cynthia Steffe was doing it in 2002 on black waxy high waisters after all! Yet, while Vogue was shooting brightly colored exposes a few years back, lycra and mis-shapen cardigans for all to see, I was kind of rolling my eyes all the way, praying for the cool, casual, collectivity of the ’90′s to return once again.
However, after wearing my J Brand The Deal jeans for the past 60 days (non-stop I must add) and drawing upon inspiration from all eras of style, I’m going to fold: I’m definitely hooked.
To me, the jeans go with everything. They make me feel fashion forward, yet not too trendy everytime…not to mention thin. What more could a girl ask for? I wear them with short booties for that Blondie edge, a preppy Ralph Lauren button downs with flats…even a grungy Tee, cute heels and long, layered necklaces look amazing with my J Brand’s. And the girl who sold them to me was spot on: I don’t just wear the zippers closed. I love them in every combination of partially open and all the way up too.
Are you loving Ankle Zipper denim this year? If so, how are you wearing yours?
P.S. J Brand isn’t the only denim company making ankle zipper Jeans though…so if they aren’t the perfect fit for you, try these other great pairs:
Shop at Revolve Clothing, eLuxury, and Nordstrom to find these perfect pairs of Ankle Zippers jeans and many others too.
Gridlock Denim: Interchangable Back Pockets

Most of us who are obsessed with designer denim can spot a pair of jeans from a mile away simply based on the back pockets. They give a denim brand its identity – even J Brand who’s back pockets are very plain, are identifiable if you know what to look for.
Jessie did a post awhile back about an interchangeable back pocket kids jeans. Well now there is something similar for more grown up ladies from a new brand called Gridlock. Gridlock Denim believes the next big thing in denim is going to be the ability to change your back pockets. In addition to their full line of denim, the company offers an array of interchangeable pockets to zipper or snap onto one’s jeans. Each pair comes with two extra back pockets and they will run $180-$200 a pair. Also if you want additional back pockets, those will run you $17 to $20 each. Some of the designs include animal prints, chakra symbols and horoscope signs. This brand seems to break the “back pocket” mold of having brand identity. Do you think they will be a hit?

Check out the little viral video going around in which Posh makes a brief appearance. Does anyone “get” this video or is it just me having a blonde moment?
