“Premium” kids jeans with peel off pockets?

I have four kids. They have at least 7 pairs of jeans each. I adore my little bundles in jeans. Yeah, I was the sad momma with the denim diaper covers, I admit it.  I am a fan of trends. This is one I am NOT into.

I’d like to remind us all of those zip-off cargo pants/shorts. Once the bottom came off, it never went back on or one leg was lost in eternal space.  Same place socks go! :)

Pocket Peelies™ (patent pending) is the original losable removable pocket and is made from premium denim. Pocket Peelies is the first product of its kind in the marketplace.
This removable pocket jean line was invented and developed for kids, sizes 4-14. The back pockets of the jeans are removable and interchangeable. Each pair of jeans are sold with three pockets. You get to Pick Your Peelies and make your own jean!!

And while this sounds cute, I seriously doubt the ability of keeping both pockets on longer than the bus ride to school. I think I’ll take my $99 for some kids Diesel jeans instead!

Trend Spotting: Acid Washed & Faded Denim

kate_bosworth_faded_denim.jpg

The likes of Kate Bosworth, Katie Holmes and Sienna Miller are all wearing faded grey and acid washed denim lately. Looks like this is the new colour for denim right now. Personally, I’m not a fan of the faded look, its very 80’s. But these ladies rock it well, my Diesel Matic 8EE are as faded grey as you’ll get me in.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Lotus position in a pair of jeans? No problem.

yoga jeans model

When was the last time you tried to do downward-facing dog in a pair of jeans?  Never?

Eric Wazana would like that to change. In fact, Wazana - owner and designer of Montreal’s Second Denim - has just the pair for you. The company’s Yoga Jeans, engineered to stretch and hold as you breathe and bend, have just hit the shops.

The secret, Wazana claims, is in the fibre and cut: a blend of 97 per cent cotton and three per cent Elasthane; a diagonal weave, six-part waistband to hug you, and forward side seams that help mobility. It all adds up to comfort and “shape memory” of 92 per cent, Wazana said, as opposed to an industry standard of 64 per cent.

That means when you bend forward in Yoga Jeans, the inevitable indecent exposure should not occur. You’ll get only eight per cent slippage down your hips, not the whopping 36 per cent plunge.

The average jean, Wazana explained, stretches more than four centimetres (or an inch and a half) over eight hours of wear.

Now, jeans today promise many things: There are the tummy tuckers, designs moulded for every shape, ones that promise the butt of J. Lo or Gisele.

But comfort worthy of yoga? Is this a gimmick? I asked Wazana.

Not at all, he responded. And you actually expect folks to wear them to yoga? Continue reading ‘Lotus position in a pair of jeans? No problem.’

Recycled, wide leg and ‘boyfriend’ jeans among styles in denim for fall

levi_eco_blog.jpg

Classic styles of denim from decades past aren’t the only thing making a comeback this fall.

As silhouettes become more free flowing with the resurgence of the wide leg in both denim and trousers, one company is greening their jeans by literally incorporating the old into the new in their product: taking material bound for the bin and crafting it into new pairs.

Levi’s is slated to roll out its Recycled line made of 17 per cent recycled cotton at the end of the month.

“Basically what they do is they take the scraps from the factory cutting table and instead of throwing them away as waste, they put them back into the milling process,” said Rod Van Straten, women’s merchandise manager with Levi’s. “Scraps are disintegrated and then put back into cotton yarn, and they’re woven back into new denim.”

In addition to the reissue of its Orange Tab collection, inspired by looks from the ’60s and ’70s featuring higher rises and flared legs, the company is also unveiling its “boyfriend jean,” part of what Van Straten called the resurgence of a deconstructed look, particularly in bottoms.

“We’re actually starting to see certain celebrities popping up wearing more oversized, typically more boyfriend looks that are more slouchy, a little bit more relaxed, so it’s a new interpretation of the deconstructed pant,” he said, noting that Katie Holmes has been photographed around New York sporting the look.

For men, Van Straten said slim and straight silhouettes continue to gain momentum.

Paige Premium Denim offers both a straight leg, slim cut jeans with a classic rise for men as well as a more slouchy, relaxed fit with a higher rise for fall.

For girls, the look is notably wide in jeans this fall, said Shannon Johnson of Winners.

“The skinny jean is not going to go away completely, but I think now you can do something that’s still figure-flattering without feeling that you’re not on trend,” she said. “I think that the raise of the waist and the fuller leg of the pant is really important for a lot of us who don’t feel 100 per cent in our skinny jeans.”

Womenswear retailer Reitmans features its own wide leg denim trouser it touts for both office and casual wear from petites to plus sizes.

Van Straten said more denim consumers are making the transition from work to social activities at day’s end in their jeans.

“A nice medium to dark shade of indigo can really look polished during the day with a great blazer and a good shoe and then very easily can transform into a nighttime setting by peeling off the jacket and wearing a flirty top,” he said.

For women with a curvier figure, Van Straten suggests opting for a darker shade of denim jean, as well as looking for something with a contoured waistband to prevent gaping.

“What can happen with curvier women is they have to size up in order to accommodate, perhaps, more weight that they’re carrying in their hips, and the waistband can then tend to not fit snugly around their waist, which leads to a little bit of an unfinished type of look,” he said.

“As well, a boot leg really helps to proportion the leg as well as elongate the leg on a curvier body type.”

For those with a more boyish or slender figure, Van Straten suggests selecting either the skinny or trouser pant.

“The skinny will really hug the body and give you an appearance of feminine curves, and a trouser almost camouflages a lack of curves and will create an A-line shape which can also be really, really exciting.”

New Wide Leg styles from True Religion Jeans

true-religion-candice-chalk.jpg

True Religion has finally jumped on the Wide Leg bandwagon!  Well, okay, they’ve had the Joey forever which has somewhat of a bootcut flare, but I really love True Religion’s new wide leg Candice cut, shown above - the fit reminds me of J Brand’s Lovestory.  Also under their Wide Leg section on their website, I ran across these, below, the Ella Heritage Big T - look how not-fitted they are - is True Religion following the big and baggy trend too?  What do you think of the Ella’s?

Wacky trend - Skinnies tucked into Sandals?

people-magazine-mischa-barton-vanessa-hudgens-celebrity-trends.jpg

We mentioned this before, when Vanessa Hudgens sported the above look.  But now even People Magazine has picked up on this apparent trend.  Would you tuck into your sandals?  To me, its kind of like wearing socks with sandals - a definite don’t.  Do you think this look will catch on with non-celeb fashionistas?

Would you wear jeans tucked into gladiator sandals?
