Los Angeles Fashion Week: Viridis Luxe Spring 2009

Viridis Luxe had some really rad denim contributions for Los Angeles Fashion Week. Some were No-No’s and some were fabulous. The continuation and theme seemed to be simply cuffed jeans- regardless of the level of distressing. The collection has some very apparent peaks and valleys. Overall, I’m impressed with denim and I wonder how it compares price wise to Alexander Wang.
Jil Sander to do Men’s Premium Denim Line

From Women’s Wear Daily:
Jil Sander’s creative director Raf Simons has turned his expert hand to premium denim clothes for men. The sleek tailored pieces, in off-white, blue or gray denim, will roll out to Jil Sander stores worldwide for spring, and come packaged in an exclusive navy box. Fashioned with traditional sartorial workmanship, the five-pocket pants are slim or boot-leg, while the skinny two-button blazers feature inner pockets and softly padded shoulders.
Raf Simon is genius and I’m sure these pieces will be gorgeous! I can’t WAIT to see more!

Gridlock Denim: Interchangable Back Pockets

Most of us who are obsessed with designer denim can spot a pair of jeans from a mile away simply based on the back pockets. They give a denim brand its identity – even J Brand who’s back pockets are very plain, are identifiable if you know what to look for.
Jessie did a post awhile back about an interchangeable back pocket kids jeans. Well now there is something similar for more grown up ladies from a new brand called Gridlock. Gridlock Denim believes the next big thing in denim is going to be the ability to change your back pockets. In addition to their full line of denim, the company offers an array of interchangeable pockets to zipper or snap onto one’s jeans. Each pair comes with two extra back pockets and they will run $180-$200 a pair. Also if you want additional back pockets, those will run you $17 to $20 each. Some of the designs include animal prints, chakra symbols and horoscope signs. This brand seems to break the “back pocket” mold of having brand identity. Do you think they will be a hit?

ACNE/Lanvin makes its debut!

Models in Acne/Lanvin at the Line
You may remember reading back in August that Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz was designing a line of denim with Acne, appropriately dubbed Acne/Lanvin. Well the line is finally will finally be available beginning next Thursday at select Barney’s New York stores or at Acne Studios online. But don’t get too excited yet, because the line is expected to sell out in retail stores within the first two days! Priced from $455 for jeans to $1,350 for more lavish pieces like dresses or a blazer–just goes to show you that the fashion world’s love for Elbaz isn’t about to end with Lanvin (and neither will their spending!). The collection is 28 pieces, and “combines the classic style and impeccable detailing of Lanvin with the slightly rugged and hip look that Acne is famous for,” says Doria Santofler of New York Magazine.
If you didn’t get a chance to read the previous post on this line, definitely check out all the details here!
Here are some views from the look book, and also some of the models in ACNE/Lanvin at their recent kick off soiree in Paris. I adore the looks…I feel they shout the femininity and sophistication of Lanvin that we’d always expect…and yet don’t exclude the fun, girliness that makes us fall for denim everytime. What do you think? Is ACNE/Lanvin for you too?
