Simon Miller know what most men want, which is classic and never fussy. For Fall 2013 they kept it just that, keeping details minimal by doing only the slightest distressing on a few pairs.

By keeping the washes simple, they concentrated on fit. The styles here, just like the ones prior, have that same tailored-to-fit cut that is not too slim nor too baggy. Just the right amount of slouch that is versatile for everyday wear. You can see their new styles below.

North Carolina used to be the mecca of denim production, as well as other textiles, but since the rise of out of country production, the market has dropped drastically. The percentage of people earning a check from the textile industry was 40% a half a decade ago and is now a mere 2%.

Raleigh Denim is not only an emerging denim company, but they are also changing the ways of production and bringing it back to where it was once a thriving industry. Raleigh Denim is of course based out of North Carolina, bringing you local materials (denim from Cone Mill’s White Oak plant) and artisinal methods (i.e. a button hole machine from 1941) to create the best denim they possibly can. They believe in old traditions and heritage mixed with new, contemporary styles which is what makes their company so unique.

Raleigh’s Spring/Summer line gives you a perfect mix of denim and cut and sew pieces with a cool, Americana vibe. You can mix and match any of these pieces within the collection and the Men’s collection is just as amazing as the Women’s. I appreciate the color palette of blues and white with a splash of a unique color in between to brighten up the styles, making the whole thing completely wearable and easy to fit into your pre-existing closet. I sat down to chat with the owners for a bit about their flourishing company and what they have planned for it. Here’s what they had to say…

DB: Were you always passionate about denim? What inspired you to kind of change the way denim is being produced? 

R: We’ve always been passionate about making things. Denim became a focus when victor was hunting for a pair of jeans he loved, and decided to make some. Our particular process took shape while we were learning about jean construction and denim history, especially in within our state.

DB: Who is a Raleigh girl/guy? 

R: Raleigh girls and guys are generally curious, thoughtful, easy going kind of people. They care about details and enjoy a good story.

DB: What is/has been your goal for Raleigh? What would you like to accomplish through your company? 

R: Our goal is to make a great product – domestically when at all possible, do what we love, and meet inspiring people along the way.

DB: Where do you see Raleigh in 5 years? 10? 

R: We don’t have a very specific answer…we’d like to be a little bigger, a little better, doing a little more, and having a good time.

Raleigh makes small runs and range from about $200-$300 a pair. You can find them in MAJOR stores such as Barney’s (no big deal) and they also have a newly opened flagship store in New York – 211 Elizabeth Street (Between Prince and Spring). No, Raleigh is not competing for lowest price range, but they ARE competing for the best product they can with the best style and story.

I personally believe it’s so important to support smaller companies like this because even though it’s a little more money than you would normally spend on a pair of denim, you’re supporting people that are trying to make our industry better. These people are responsible for taking our industry back to what it once was and also giving you the opportunity to own a quality pair of denim as they were made long ago. Here is the new Fall 2013 Siwy collection. This season had no lack of prints in their classic fits. They also Introduced a jumpsuit and a suede paneled jean, as well as foiled pair.

There is never a lack of interest each season when it comes to Siwy. It is a brand that has the styles down packed and they add unique details in each collection, while not looking overworked or sacrificing their fits. You can see of all the new styles below.

For Men’s this season, Mardou & Dean kept the pieces classic, but with interesting details. They have zipper details at the waistband of the jeans and their take on a lace-up for guys.

Their classic blues this season were kept fresh, but in a masculine way. Some were dirtier, while others had classic fading in medium tones. Just because it’s for men, it didn’t stop them from being bold. They have a pair of horizontal stripes and a metallic paint splattered pair that almost looks as if it was studded with crystals all over. You can see all the styles below. Which are your favorites?

For Spring 2013 Mardou & Dean designed classic washes with unique details that are true to the Mardou & Dean brand. The fly details are not the typical straight details like the others. They have a slight angle with semi-exposed button-fly. For ones who are looking for the classic details, they have that as well.

This season was also the introduction to a lace-up jean. It comes in colors purple and green that have ankle-zips at the hems. For Summer they have shorts and a skirt with their classic fly detail as well as lighter washes and distressing. Which style is your favorite? Here is a look at the new “Acult” collection by Ksubi styled by Vogue Australia’s Christine Centenera. The collection is inspired by an ancient belief in the geometric underpinnings of the universe.

This new route that Ksubi has been taking the past few seasons has been really amazing. It has gone from a cool casual vibe to a more high fashion Parisian route. Even with the change, the soul of the brand is still prominent. There are definitely pieces here that both men and women will love (i.e those flares above). You can see all the looks below.

Hudson reminds you to #LETYOURSELFGO with the new Spring/Summer 2013 look book. They showed the versatility of their jeans by styling them in looks inspired from coast to coast. You can see the models styled in breezy California looks to ones that carry a downtown New York vibe. Don’t think they didn’t get anywhere in the middle covered. You can also see looks with pompadours, high waisted cropped skinnies and leather jackets inspired by the Rockabillys.

We usually only see one inspiration when it comes to look books. The range of this one is what I like. It shows that their jeans are not just one note and anyone can wear them regardless of their style. See all the the new styles below.

The collection features a lot of bright colors, like oranges and blues, offered in skinny cropped styles with flat front pockets. Tying in with the laid back vibe are the slouchy skinny, boyfriend, and longer short styles. Overall, there is subtle aged distressing, that looks relaxed without being too overdone.

Here is a look at the brand new Liverpool Jeans Spring 2013 Look Book. The brand makes jeans in different denim fabrics, with lift and shape solutions, following a woman’s natural curves to provide a long, sleek slimming effect all under a retail of $100. They currently have placement at Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Amazon.com, as well as 1600+ specialty boutiques across the country. The line also started carrying size 0 in various styles to accommodate for the market.

For their Spring 2013 collection, they have bold and fun floral prints as well as black and white, jewel tones and classic blues. I haven’t yet tried Liverpool Jeans, but have any of you? We introduced you to Natural Selection Denim back in 2009, but here is their brand new Spring 2013 Look Book for the guys. What I love about the brand is their concept of washes, they literally have an aging process. They have some that are raw, then you have a wash that would be equivalent of some months wear, then more months and then into the years which are super light.

The light ones are my favourites! They seem to pay attention when creating their washes as well because they look so authentic and natural which is what you want when you are looking for the perfect wash! How many of you have worn Natural Selection Denim before? I’m really wanting to try out a pair of the lighter ones as boyfriend jeans, I don’t mind that they don’t come in women’s.
