Designer Jean Interviews
Rich & Skinny is a brand that every girl can relate to aka we all want to be Rich and Skinny (well, almost). The mastermind behind Seven for All Mankind and later Citizens of Humanity, launched Rich & Skinny in 2006, giving women a jean that mixes flattering fabrics with a great elasticity for comfort.
As you may have already heard, Rebecca Minkoff recently expanded her company and ventured into a denim line! Her jeans have already been seen on popular fashion bloggers and I can definitely see them being a hit with the celebrities! I caught up with Rebecca to find out more about her new venture into denim and see what she had to say! You can read the interview below and you can see some of the new styles in the gallery as well! Have any of you tried Rebecca Minkoff denim yet? I will also be posting her look book later today! You can also buy the jeans online here.
DB: Hi Rebecca, thank you for doing this interview with us. What made you want to start doing denim?
I love denim and I wanted to give my customer another casual staple to add to her wardrobe. It was important to me that the jeans be a premium quality, but also a great price for my customer. Our price range for the denim and t-shirts is $48 – $128.
DB: I’ve personally been a fan of your bags for a while, did you make sure your jeans would suit the style of your bags or have you kept them separate?
I didn’t design the denim line with the bags in mind, necessarily, but I’d like to think that you can definitely wear the two together! One of my favorite pairs right now is the Mercer boyfriend with our new Logan backpack.
Sonas Denim is a new brand that is just breaking into the market from San Francisco. It was founded by Gerry Kelly and has a very unique take on jeans! Instead of the regular 2 pieces of denim sewn together, Sonas jeans are made from individual square pieces of denim, creating a patchwork effect.
Janice Dickinson is a big fan of the brand and even did a shoot with them a little while ago, which you can see in the gallery below. I thought it would be good to catch up with Gerry to find out more about this unique brand. Please carry on reading for the interview and photos of the jeans. What do you think of Sonas?
DB: Hi Jerry! So, tell us a bit about your denim brand, Sonas Denim?
GK: Well DB, it’s a unique, free spirited couture jean with underlying philanthropic goals. Sonas means “Happiness, good times, felicity and bliss” in Gaelic. Our brand is about positivity, empowerment, individuality and new beginnings. We want to start a trend of giving in the fashion industry and about compassion in fashion.
DB: What inspired you to create it?
GK: I was looking for jeans to wear for the Burning Man Arts Festival which did not exist, so I made them myself. Everybody at Burning Man loved them, wanted them and encouraged me to go for it!
As you know, the gorgeous Nikki Reed and 7 For All Mankind have collaborated together on a jewellery collection. We announced this a couple of days ago and you can shop the collection online at their website here. In light of the collaboration, I got the chance to interview Nikki about the collection to see how it came around, what her favourite pieces are, what she could see Rosalie wearing and more. Nikki’s really sweet and I am grateful to her for taking time out of her busy schedule to do this interview for DenimBlog!
DB: Hi Nikki, thanks for doing this interview with us here at DenimBlog! We are big fans of 7 For All Mankind, what inspired you to want to collaborate with them?
Nikki: Thank you! This collaboration came about in a really organic way. I hosted an event with 7FAM for the Step Up Women’s Network and someone who worked at 7 approached me about a piece I was wearing from my first jewelry collection (Mattlin Era). They expressed interest in me after hearing the story behind my collection, and before I knew it we were talking about working together! It has been such a wonderful experience. I have always been such a fan of theirs!
