Diesel to acquire Superfine Jeans?

superfine.jpg

This could be interesting!

Is Diesel’s Renzo Rosso on the prowl again?

Word on the street is that Rosso is in talks to acquire Superfine Jeans, the hot London-based premium denim brand, founded in 2003 by Lucy Pinter and Flora Evans. Superfine has become well known for its directional silhouettes and popularity amongst the global style A-list, including Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Mary-Kate Olsen.

While Mr. Rosso has been acquisitive in the past, he has tended to focus more on the fashion end of things, acquring stakes in  Maison Martin Margiela, DSquared2, and most recently, Sophia Kokosalaki, through Diesel’s Staff International subsidiary.

That Mr. Rosso is reportedly looking to acquire another denim brand may suggest that Diesel, which now ranks amongst the best-known jeans labels in the world, is looking for something more edgy and sophisticated to add to its jeans stable to compete with the likes of cult Swedish label Acne and 18th Amendment and Ksubi of Australia.

This is a smart move. With Rosso’s manufacturing, marketing and distribution capabilities, Superfine could be supercharged into a global denim brand in its own right — but by then, I guess Rosso will be on the hunt again.

Deals of the Day - Diesel Lowky B.C. jeans on sale!

Admittedly, I am a cheapskate about my denim.  I only buy it on sale or I try to find the pair I want on Ebay after I’ve tried it on in the department store.  I can’t help it - I have a love for all things expensive but don’t have the budget to buy those things at retail!  The only time I’ve ever paid full retail for my jeans - twice - was for both pairs of my Diesel Lowky B.C. jeans that I adore, and wear 90% of the time, I bought at full retail price in the Diesel boutique.  They are my favorite go-to wear them anywhere, everywhere, jeans.

Now BOTH of my favorite styles are on sale at Nordstrom, grr!  Nordstrom is having a killer denim sale right now.  Oh well - if you haven’t tried these, the fit is fabulous - they are a classic bootcut with my two favorite classic washes!  Scoop them up at between $99 - $109 at Nordie’s now and check out their other denim on sale too!

P.S. The flare is not quite as wide as it looks on the model!  ;)

Premium Denim hits NYC with force with new Flagship stores!

7forallmankind.jpg

Is it really over? I keep hearing premium denim is over and trends have changed.  Actually my inbox is SCREAMING with it!  And with the resurgence of Levi’s jeans…but even those have gone up to $200 in my local mall.  I just don’t believe that premium denim is as over as some say - especially after reading this!

Just when you thought it was safe to slip back into those GAP regular fits, designer denim brands like 7 For All Mankind and True Religion make another lunge at your wardrobe with a whole new game plan. From huge leases for new flagships to hot collaborations with haute fashion houses, premium jean companies are determined to claw their way back onto the bums of New Yorkers.

True Religion is banking on a full scale Manhattan invasion to push their $200 pairs. With the first open already and the latter two expected within two months, you know True Religion is praying for new converts to the church of high denim.

7 For All Mankind is scooting its new 3,000 square foot flagship into Soho. Although the store won’t be peddling its $180 jeans and $350 bags (!!) until later this summer, it will be only a block down from a few other places we’d rather buy jeans: Jean Shop, DKNY and Emporio Armani(Editor’s Note: WE at the DenimBlog would not rather by jeans at DKNY than SFAM!)

Don’t let their spring obsession with the 80’s party look throw you off, Diesel means big business. By Christmas this year, the 19,555 square foot former home of Gucci will welcome the behemoth Diesel flagship location. The three-floor shrine to denim will be the perfect host for Diesel’s recent collaboration with adidas Originals and Diesel’s own luxury line “Diesel Black Gold,” for fall debut.

Fresh from opening their first US store in partnership with Opening Ceremony Acne Jeans announces yet another huge collaboration- with Alber Elbaz of Lanvin & should be ready for a 2009 launch.”

Joining Lucky Brand, A.P.C. opened with a current kids clothes collaboration with Luco featuring $85 Bermuda shorts for your kid to grow out of just in time for the next collaboration.

The premium denim train makes all local stops from here to next year with an Earnest Sewn opening in LA in July.

Paige Premium Denim launching their Black Label in August 2008.

The dreaded Hollister mothership due to touch down in July 2009.  (Editor’s Note - HOLLISTER IS NOT PREMIUM DENIM!  HELLO?!?!)

And the freshly H&M-ed Cheap Monday shivering in anticipation of their own ambitious plans.

Despite the premium denim infestation, there is still no denying that the trends have shifted; now having the double R on your backside isn’t so much a status symbol as it is a suburban outlet shopper’s badge of honor.   Talking with WWD, Union’s Scott Bonomo only confirms this fact: “That [premium denim] gold rush is over. People that weren’t in this business for the long haul have found themselves out of it by choice or not by choice. It’s a different game. You’ve got to know who your customer is and know what you’re about as a concept.”

Story from Racked.com

For most of us, it was never about wearing a status symbol on our backsides (well maybe for a few of us!). But for most, its about the denim. The color of the wash, the uniqueness of the pockets, the durability, and most of all, how great it makes the booty look - the fit! If it was about the status symbol, we’d all be running around with Louis Vuitton jeans (yes there is such a thing - wait for the blog tomorrow!) on our arses like Mariah Carey!  In my opinion, great fitting premium denim is a long way from being over.

What do you think of Diesel’s new Fluo collection?

Have you been to Diesel’s online store lately?  What do you think of the new Fluo collection for guys - featuring bright fluorescent colors, slightly reminiscent of Hypercolor shirts from the 80’s (okay, now I am dating myself!)?  Do you love this collection or hate it?

More designer denim brands coming out with shorter inseams!

7-dojo-petite-jeans.jpg

We’ve always loved that Diesel (carries inseams at 30″, 32″ and 34″) and Joe’s Jeans (the Provocateur style) carried shorter inseams for those of us who are not of supermodel stature.  But now, increasingly, 7 for All Mankind is offering jeans with shorter inseams as well.  Finally!  ShopBop has an entire category dedicated to Jeans for Petites.  I am 5′7″ - so not exactly petite, but my legs are not super long either.  I have to hem all my jeans that are 34″ and longer so I would buy the 7 for All Mankind Jeans that have a 32″ inseam which would be perfect on me.  I have a feeling many girls are like me - not short but not super tall either, and could wear these that have 32″ inseams.   Love!

Would you buy petite or shorter length jeans?
