Trend Alert: The Cropped Flare
Cropped Flares were a trend that I didn’t think would get picked up by the masses, but I am happy it did. Stars like Jessica Alba, Elle Macpherson, and Kate Moss have all been spotted wearing these styles. The style is very laid-back for the day and easy to dress up for a night out. Brands such as Textile Elizabeth and James, Victoria Beckham, Genetic, True Religion, and of course the popular J Brand have all come out with styles in many washes.
Textile’s versions come with cut-off hems in medium blue washes. Victoria Beckham has styles in khaki and black that come with a mid-rise. Genetic combined two other trends for their version, lace-up and cut-off. The pair by True Religion come in their classic light-blue wash. Then there are the Gigis by J Brand which come in an array of colors. They come in a dark rinse, black, even some waxed styles in both black and brown. Which ones will you readers be rocking with your ankle boots and flats this spring? You can purchase these styles at both ShopBop and Net-a-Porter.
Cheetah Print Denim Handbags From Rebecca Minkoff
Rebecca Minkoff has brought out a new washed denim handbag collection. The bags and purses feature a cheetah print over the washed out denim fabric with leather trims. Some even have studded embellishment on the straps. What do you think of the bags? Are they your style? I love to see denim being used in almost everything now. Cheetah and animal print is very on trend at the moment so why not mix it with such a wonderful fabric? You can check out the collection at www.rebeccaminkoff.com.
Steal Her Style: Patchwork Denim
Patchwork started on the runway with Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2010 and slowly made it’s way into the mass market. Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Nicole Richie and Kristin Cavallari have all been seen wearing the trend, in a variety of different ways. One of the great things about it is that you can find a pair of jeans with all over patches and a bohemian vibe, or a few subtle patches for a more vintage look.
Textile Elizabeth and James Stevie Jean. The wider leg and contrast pockets and patches make for a trendy and bohemian jean. Celebrities like Kate Hudson and Kristin Cavallari are fans. They’re available for purchase at Bloomingdales.com for $98.00.
Jet Jeans Drip ‘N Patch Skinny jeans and Patchwork Skinny jeans ( both seen on Nicole Richie) both offer a more subtle take on the patchwork trend, the Drip ‘N Patch style only has one patch and the Patchwork Skinny has multiple same-tone patches. You can buy these jeans at Singer22.com and Boutiquetoyou.com.
Dalin Chase Spencer Shorts: These are definitely for those who are wholeheartedly embracing this trend! Perfect for spring with the multicolored patches. Available for purchase at Shopbop for $98.00.
See By Chloe high-rise skinny jeans. With the high rise and two lighter toned patches across the legs, these jeans are certainly for the fashion risk taker. They’re available for purchase for $300 at Net-a-porter.com.
Marc by Marc Jacobs contrast denim legging. If you’re looking for a more comfortable take on the trend, look no further than Marc Jacobs denim legging, with lighter contrast side-panels. Available for purchase from Net-a-porter.com for $170.
Charley 5.0 Leather Patch Skinny Jean. Leather is very popular this season and these skinny jeans from Charley 5.0 combine both trends. The leather patches around the knees make this style more rocker than bohemian. Available for purchase from Shopbop.com for $118.00.
Forever 21 Cropped Boyfriend Jeans. If you’re on a budget but still want to look trendy, check out Forever 21′s line Love 21. The line also comes in extended sizes and the price of $24.00, you can’t be beat! Available at Forever21.com.
If you want to try this trend without the cost, you can always check out some DIY-Videos. All you need is sewing supplies and some old jeans!
Steal Her Style: Hilary Duff in Current/Elliott Leather Leggings
Leather and leggings are two of the biggest trends this season, so leather leggings seem like a natural match of these trends. Celebrities like Hilary Duff and the Kardashian’s have all been seen in Current/Elliott’s leather leggings. There are tons of different options to replicate this look at all different price points. This would be a great trend to wear in the upcoming weeks, especially with New Year’s Eve approaching!
Hilary is wearing Current/Elliott’s Leather Legging, which retails for $795 but these seem to be sold out in most places. You can purchase them at Revolveclothing.com.
1) Seven For All Mankind offers a leather knit combined legging, with panels of each. They retail for $598.
2) J Brand Agnes jeans. One of the great thing about waxed denim is that it looks very similar to leather but is a bit more subtle. You can buy these jeans for $260.
3) Patterson J. Kincaid has unique leather paneling and ankle zips. These are a great option if you don’t want to go for all out leather. They’re currently on sale for $111.00
4) BCBG offers all over front faux leather paneling and knit back. They retail for $138.00
5) Michael By Michael Kors offers a great take on the leather legging with an all over sheen and fit that will give you the same look as a real leather legging. Best part is, they’re only $79.50.
6) Nordstrom faux leather legging is more legging than leather but will certainly give your outfit the oomph! They are currently on sale for $24.90.
Once you choose a pair, just add a black blazer, a white tee, fun jewelry and your favorite heels and you’re all set!
Denim Review: SOLD Design Lab Skinny
So this is my debut review! SOLD Design lab offered these to me for a review and I thought to myself that I might as well start doing reviews and hopefully you like this review. I am normally a trouser jean type of person because I have large thighs and many jeans give me leg sausage. They originally were going to send me a pair of their new trousers, but I got these pull on skinnys instead. These skinnys are from their Spring and Summer Look book and they are called Spring Street Skinny in IRS.
The fit of these pull on skinnys is exactly what you would expect from pull on jeans, they are basically like a jegging and super stretchy. They have no zipper just a button closure at the top, pretty much like the same jeans that Lorna reviewed from them here. I’ve had J Brand 901 leggings on Sable and these aren’t quite as stretchy or as soft as those, but I like that about them, they have more of a “jean” type of feeling to them rather than soft pajamas. I wore these on Thanksgiving and they were great because after a HUGE supper I still felt comfortable in them. In fact, I even wore them two days later again, which is rare for me to wear a pair of jeans twice in a week.
The wash is a plain dark blue, which I prefer for skinnys. The darker color looks better on my thighs and the clean wash gives them a dressier look. I was unsure about the back pockets at first because smaller pockets make my behind look even larger. They are placed very well though and I think that helps to even it out a bit. The inseam was nice because they were long enough to stack a little bit if I wanted to wear heels instead of boots, but the material is thin enough so that if you cuffed them and tucked them into boots the extra material would not bother you. They fit SO well under boots too, that is probably one of the main reasons I love to wear them, they are skin tight and boots slide on very smoothly over them.
I’m 5’7″ and normally wear a 31/32 in jeans and I got these in size Large. I’d have to say for skinnys they definitely have me SOLD! You can buy SOLD Design Lab jeans here from Singer22 and here from Revolve.
Trend Alert: The Snake Effect
There is another print that the designers are getting fond of. Leopard is not the only preferred choice anymore. Here comes the snake print. Brands like Siwy, Closed and more have all come out with their own styles for the trend. You can choose from a subtle effect or one that pops and stands out on its own.
The celebrities are already rocking the trend. You can see Fergie (above) wearing a pair of snake print skinny jeans and many others have all been caught in the Paige Premium Super Tanzania Jeggings, which is a mixture of military and the beloved reptile. You can check out the styles by Rebecca Minkoff, Current/Elliott and more below.
