I have noticed recently when I am looking online at denim that not many brands actually release distressed and ripped styles for men. Distressing is a huge part of women’s jeans, and I remember some years ago that it used to be really popular among the men’s denim as well. Brands like Diesel would be over populated with ripped styles and washes like 71J, 73J, 772 etc, which were insanely popular, they were some of the all time favourites.

When I was browsing the Diesel website earlier though, I noticed that there isn’t one pair of distressed jeans for men on there… Times have really changed. In fact, when I was looking for a distressed pair of jeans to do the collage above, I had a tough time coming up with one.

My thoughts towards this have varied a lot. I got to thinking that maybe brands see men’s denim differently to women’s. Men in general are more likely to wear their jeans a lot longer and a lot more than women are and perhaps distressed jeans would just wear out too quickly. Then I thought that maybe men wear their jeans a lot harder and rougher than women do, so will probably end up creating their own holes or putting their foot right through one when pulling the jeans on (I’ve done this myself).

Then I got to thinking that maybe the times have changed and men just don’t like distressed jeans as much as they used to, or the simple fact that designers have changed their way of thinking and have changed the times, even if guys still like the distressing. There are many many things that it could be, but my point to this post was to find out whether or not you guys prefer distressed denim over plain washes? And are you sad that they are really hard to come by now?

I know a lot of the times when I have a gorgeous pair of ripped jeans, either from AG or Rag & Bone, my boyfriend will ask me if the same wash exists for guys and I always have to tell him that unfortunately it doesn’t and he’s left disappointed. He genuinely loves the washes that Rag & Bone come up with and I agree, they have some beautiful ones, but it’s a shame they don’t come in men’s cuts. I know recently they did release two ripped styles, so I truly hope they make more in the near future!

But brands in general, they definitely seem to have a more plain men’s line in comparison to women’s. I’m not saying that the non distressed jeans are no good, some of them are incredibly beautiful and look really nice on, it’s just that I miss seeing the more ripped styles for guys. I know men love denim just as much as us girls do, sometimes even more, so I would definitely love to get your thoughts on whether or not you would like more inventive styles, just like they do for the ladies? As summer is pretty much here now, acid wash jeans are a great style to wear during the warmer weather. Many brands often bring out their acid styles around spring/summer and when I see them I always associate the grainy washed out tone with the beach and festivals. I think there is something about acid wash that just says ‘I’m casual’ and that makes them so easy to wear. They almost look like a really old pair of jeans which are so washed out and stained, you have been living in them for years.

Acid wash used to be so popular in the 80′s, but in the form of light blue and very light grey denim only. Brands today have upped the game and now release them in bright colours as well as prints, so there is something for everyone! I have piled together most of the acid wash jeans that I found while looking online and these also include cheaper options, so there is a mix for everyone! I know that not everyone wants to pay premium prices for fast fashion jeans which wont be worn often, which is why I’ve included a larger variety of options and price points in this post. My favourite pair from the whole collection has to be the M2F blue skinnies! That wash is amazing!

It’s that time of year when everyone is trading out their denim jackets in favour of denim vests. I myself am a huge denim vest fan and when I get chance I pair them over dresses or double up on denim with shorts and jeans. I think they are actually a staple piece for your wardrobe as they can really pull an outfit together. They are that essential item that you reach for when you want to wear a denim jacket, but it’s just too hot to entertain the idea of sleeves. I find that denim vests also can help make your look casual for the daytime. If you have a dress that’s a little ‘too dressy’, throwing a denim vest over the top of it can easily bring it down a few notches for casual wear.

I have compiled some of my favourite options here in this post and they come in a variety of washes as well as styles. There is cropped, oversized, moto style and more! These choices are all from Shopbop so they are the premium denim options, however you can easily get some great alternatives from Topshop, Forever 21, Zara, ASOS and more! I generally tend to spend a little less money on my denim vests as I don’t get to wear them that often over here in the UK, however for you US residents, it’s definitely worth buying a more investment piece! High waisted jeans have been making a come back since their bell bottom days in the 70s and their Mom type jeans in the 90s (which people are starting to rock again as well). To celebrate Spring I thought I’d add in some shorts for all of you lovely ladies that love a good pair of jean shorts. When searching for high waisted jean shorts the majority of items that came up were independent sellers that created their own. I wanted to make this section of the post an ode to those independent sellers doing their thing and bringing you amazing high waisted cut offs. I thought I would do a post that’s a little different for you all; on trend jeans with a much lower price tag of £35. Just Fab offer bright colours, ombre and more trends in their denim, but for those of who don’t want to spend the premium denim price tag which is around $180+ for a fast fashion jean (which is definitely understandable), then I think these are a great alternative.

For most people, denim is an investment piece and spending a lot of money on one pair usually results in the buyer wanting to wear them often, which is something that isn’t completely doable when it comes to trendy, printed jeans as they aren’t so versatile and go out of fashion very quickly. Each time I look at every single pair of these jeans, they just remind me so much of spring! It’s hard not to think of flowers, warmer weather and smiles when seeing these pastel hues in my opinion! Skinny Jeans For Women

I think these 4 skinny jeans for women are very reminiscent of the warmer season. Mint and lemon are especially big during this season and not to mention white, which is always popular when the weather warms up due to its light and heat reflecting abilities. Also, what’s spring without a pair of light washed distressed jeans?! They are always the perfect complement to an outfit!

Floral print is one of the biggest trends you can ever think of for spring, I always see it around, whether it’s in the form of a dress, top, skirt, bag or jeans, it’s one of the most popular so I couldn’t not include this gorgeous watercolour style floral! The mini little bicycles are also adorable! They are so much fun that they scream of happiness and will be perfect! Again I also chose another mint, a slightly stronger version and then an acid wash as well because that’s always popular!

Flats

Now, to go with the skinny jeans, I think flats are always the perfect option! Spring reminds me so much of going for long walks in the park to look at the flowers and you need something comfortable, so these 5 options are great! I chose metallic toe caps on two of the shoes because I think that adds such a unique touch to a look, I chose the mouse flats as they are cute and fun, I also chose a classic pair of tan flats as everyone needs a classic and then I chose a pair of canvas lighter weight flats from TOMS. I think each of these are a great option for being on your feet all day.

Heels/Wedges

I also always think of wedges and little sandals when I am reminded of the warmer seasons. They usually go with anything from dresses and skirts to shorts and jeans, so you honestly can’t go wrong with them! I chose these little strappy sandals as I love the look they give with a super tight skinny jean, they look really elegant and often elongate the legs! Then I chose two open toe wedges because everyone looks great in wedges in the spring! They are easier to walk in as they have stability and they are often secure on your feet so I do prefer them to heels most of the time!

KeySocks

Now, here is a really cool invention that I was introduced to last week via Twitter, KeySocks! These are really cool and very inventive socks which you can wear with your flats and heels. The socks have a cut out from the start of the toes all the way up past the ankle, so when you have flats on or closed toe heels, it looks like you aren’t wearing any socks at all! It’s amazing!

I have three pairs of these and they definitely do what they say! If you get cold feet often, like myself, then I would recommend trying them out with your flats as they do add some warmth to your feet while still looking like you are sock-less. Denim shirts have been a staple piece for many many years and at the moment, they are even more popular than ever before. I find that everywhere I go, even shops that I wouldn’t normally shop in, always stock variations of denim shirts and I think they are almost as important as a pair of jeans! They are amazing to own in anyone’s closet, whether you are male or female! So in this post I have included some of my own shirts, celebs in shirts and lots of options to buy for both the guys and girls!

My Denim Shirts

You can literally wear denim shirts with anything and they look great! I have numerous denim shirts (maybe 10) and I wear them weekly with my different outfits. They go with shorts, mini skirts, maxi skirts, over dresses, with different wash jeans and more. They are very versatile and come in so many variations! I have two ombre/dip dye shirts, an oversized light blue one, a light blue fitted one, a dark blue fitted one, a tie-dye sleeveless version, one with embellished elbows, one with studs and more! I find you can even wear them underneath denim jackets as well, if you want to go for a triple denim look!

We have had countless sightings on DenimBlog of celebs in a denim shirt though, but I really liked these looks! It just proves how easy they are to wear and how unisex they are too! I even own a men’s denim shirt as I loved the colour of it, so anyone can literally wear them!

The colour block trend is one that has been slowly creeping up over the past year and is now in full force. I originally started seeing some of the colour block jeans when I was at the SS13 press days in October last year and I definitely liked what I saw! I think the trend looks great when it’s done well and can give a pair of jeans a completely new look.

My favourite colour block look is a different colour on the back to the front, with a contrasted waistband, much like the left pair in the main image above, however I do like the really intriguing ones that MiH have come out with where they change shade half way down the leg. My only worry with those however is they could make your legs look short if you are on the petite side. I also love the pair from Frankie B. below with the contrast on each leg, I think that looks amazing!

I don’t think this is going to be a trend that is here to stay, I’m pretty certain it’s just going to be really popular for the time being and will fade out over the coming seasons, but as of now, I do really like it. I think it’s very trendy and inventive, so I have listed some styles that are on sale at the moment which you can buy. What do you think of the trend? Do you like it? Patchwork jeans seem to crop up here and there throughout random seasons over the years, but I have noticed a bit of an increase in their sightings and styles lately! We spotted Gwen Stefani back in June 2011, sporting a pair from RARE, then we saw Hilary Duff last year in a pair by Surface To Air and more recently we have been getting sightings of Sarah Jessica Parker, Drew Barrymore and even Jennifer Lawrence rocking Current/Elliott’s Slouchy Stiletto in Old Glory Destroy.

I used to envision patchwork jeans as children’s jeans as I’m sure I remember myself wearing them when I was younger, but they have really come a long way and look much more sophisticated when they are done right. I love that pair on the left by Current/Elliott as I think the cluster of patches on the left thigh in different colours really works well against the blue of the denim, but at the same time, they don’t look awkward like some pairs can.

One thing I do love about the trend is the fact it’s very reminiscent of the olden days, when workers would patch up their denim work wear when holes and breakages occurred, so I like the vintage feel that they have to them, without the dirt and bagginess you would get from really old jeans.

I was contemplating doing some DIY and making my own patchwork jeans on a pair of my older jeans, but I haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet. When I do though, I will definitely be making a post on my process. I’m thinking I will just use some shades of denim on a lighter or dark blue pair, but I also like the idea of light blue with some floral patchwork here and there.
