Designer Jeans reviews
Since hearing about the relaunch of Ksubi, I could not have been more excited to try out the new pieces that they had to offer. Ksubi has always been a brand that has gone against the grain and that is just what I love about them. For my first pair from their new line, I wanted to go for a different cut than what I was used to, so I chose their Hi & Wasted cut, but kept true to my usual black wash and went for the Vintage Black.
I have to say, the cut is pretty amazing and more than what I initially expected from the brand. They are cut higher which lends to a more unisex touch, so if you are on the skinnier side like me, these are a great choice for you. I went for my usual size 27 in the brand and we all know the brand tends to run on the smaller side. But being higher cut, I thought a 27 would work and they did! They are fitted throughout the hips and leg, but if you want a more slouchy cut, I say sizing up would work just great.
The wash is a worn black, one that looks as though they are a naturally worn in pair that were once jet black. It’s a simple wash that can be paired with any piece in your closet. The hand to the fabric was a huge surprise to me. With the previous styles I have tried, they have mostly been on the stiffer side being that they are new denim for the lack of a better term. But these feel as though you wore them down yourself and washed them many times.
Though soft, they do hold their shape and I actually noticed that they hold it exceptionally well. I’ve worn them for days straight and the knees haven’t bagged like most of my jeans have and the waist hasn’t stretched, causing me to constantly pull them up. These are details that I (and I am sure all of you) definitely look for in jeans.
These do have the signature Ksubi details such as the crosses at the back pocket and behind the left thigh. Although the seam stitching at the outer seam is different with these, so this particular cut doesn’t have that detail, but they have standard stitching that goes down the inseam. This gives them a more classic touch to go along with the cut.
Overall, they definitely are a pair that keeps me loving the brand and has me wanting more from them, especially the distressed styles and jackets. Whether you are a slim guy looking for a pair that isn’t baggy or a woman just looking for a great worn in black pair, these are definitely a style to try out. As a brand that has mostly stuck to classic smart styles for men, the new Baxter Jogger by Paige definitely stopped me in my tracks when browsing their site. It’s definitely a cut that is pretty bold for the brand and couldn’t wait to get a pair to review.
The jogger is definitely a new cut from the usual classic skinny styles that I wear daily. As excited as I was when I opened to box to see these, I was still a bit hesitant. Then I put them on and any worry I had left. I got them in my usual men’s size, a 28 and there is some bag to them, but that just lends to the weekend feel of their look. The length is also perfect, which is rare for me being that I am only 5’8″-5’9″ and many tend to lean on the longer side.
The fabrication is what I most amazed about. They are just as the brand describes on their site. Paige has found a way to bond the feel of sweatpants with the look of a twill jogger together so flawlessly that you’ll live in their mantra of #LIVEINIT and I have. They are extremely comfortable to the point of not wanting to take them off.
The trouser cut of the pockets is a nice change for me. It lends to the sweatpants look and it also gives off a chunk vibe that I am a fan of. It smartens the style up a bit. One mishap with these is the faux back pockets. They have welts that are sewn shut and being a huge believer of pockets this is probably just a bigger issue for me than most men. But everything fits into the actual pockets of the front, so it’s not a huge issue.
The wash is a nice solid dark charcoal/washed black of the Black Gravel wash that is perfect for that lazy weekend. You can pair them with running shoes or a pair of cool sneakers or chukkas without a hitch. It really is a wash that is quite versatile.
Overall, I’m pretty happy about these for my first pair of joggers. They have a great cut to them and are a lot more versatile than I would expect. Plus they are so comfortable that I just cannot get enough of it. If you don’t mind the faux back pockets in the back and looking for a new fun cut to try from the brand, I definitely say give these a try. I have some really exciting news to share with you all! I’ve been able to collaborate with another denim brand and release a pair of jeans! About a year ago, Yoga Jeans and I teamed up to start designing a pair of jeans for their collection that I wanted and the result is these Sky Rise Ponte Legging Skinny Jeans in Black. I fell in love with their ponte and coated skinny last year, but I felt like I wanted a ponte version all over and a higher rise, which is why this particular pair was born!
These things take a long time, so it has actually been a year in total from start to finish and they are now available to buy! They come with a sticker label on the front of the leg which I have written so you know they are a collaboration jean. I go by the name of Lorna Raindrops online as that’s my personal social media name and what I’m known for on my own personal fashion blog, so it felt right to label these jeans that way.
So, lets get to it! These jeans are made in Canada as that’s where Yoga Jeans is based and they are made from a gorgeously stretchy and soft ponte fabric. By fusing perfect fit, diagonal stretch, comfort and sexiness into every pair, Yoga Jeans denim embraces the natural movement of a woman’s body. The rise on these jeans is extra high, coming in at 10 inches, while the inseam is 31 inches and the leg opening is 4.5 inches. Making these a really skinny high rise pant. As these are not actually denim and made from a ponte fabric, they are extremely stretchy like a thick legging so you can actually work out in them and do yoga if you wish, or just stay comfortable in them for day to day wear.
One of the main issues that I have when it comes to high rise jeans is the fact that a lot of brands alter the back pockets and position them higher up to fit in with the rise. This is always so unflattering on the butt and really gives the jeans a mom jeans vibe, so I wanted to make sure the back pockets remained the same and were still flattering. Increasing the rise doesn’t mean you have to move the back pockets up, so I’m really happy with the placement of these being lower down to hug the butt.
I will say that you should size down in these though as given the amount of stretch in them, they do run a full size big. I’m actually wearing these in my regular size 26 and as you can see they are slightly loose, so I need to size down to a 25 which I am doing soon. Just keep that in mind as these are designed to be worn tight like leggings are! The wash, if you can call it that, is just a plain, deep black. I wanted to do something versatile and classic, so what’s better than all black?
I would love to know what you think of these though! I’m so excited to finally be able to tell you all about them and let you know where to buy them! They are available in select stores in Canada and you can buy them online for $120 by clicking here, so they do have a really good price point. But definitely let me know what you think and whether or not you plan on buying them! I’d love to see how you style them and how they fit you! In the meantime, please check out all of the photos in the gallery below.
I am always looking for the perfect solid pair of black jeans. Whether it be the color, fit or fabric chosen, it has been one that has been a mission. Though The Looker in Not Guilty by MOTHER is a pair that I would place pretty high up on the pyramid. From the comfort to the little details, see why I am a fan of these below.
