Designer Jeans reviews
This weeks review is on the J Brand 811 mid rise skinny jeans in Black Cherry. I have loved the colour of these jeans from the moment I first saw them when they were released. I thought they were the perfect shade of red for Autumn/Winter and I was right. I never got to review any of their bright colours from the Spring/Summer collection but I am glad I got these ones instead.
The 811 mid rise skinny fit is definitely not my favourite cut from them if I am honest. My favourite would have to be the 910 or the 901. These have a higher rise than what I am used to and they are also not as skinny in the calf area but when I wear them with a longer top and cuff the hem slightly, they become perfect! I find that’s something I do quite often actually, if a jean is not working for me then I will change things around with them until the suit me. I think these look much better cuffed anyway. I’m sure this is only a problem for the minority like myself though, I have very small calves so a lot of skinny jeans are always too baggy in the calf area on me, I need a super skinny to wear skinnies really. I took a 27 in these which is my usual J Brand size and they fit perfectly.
They have the classic simplicity that J Brand has in all of their jeans, minimal stitching, plain pockets, no back tag etc and this is something I love about them. I’m not into heavy branding on jeans and I prefer to keep things simple. I think that’s why so many people favour J Brand actually, they are all about the jeans and the fit of their jeans, not logos or branding. These are also made of twill so they are super soft and stretchy. I love twill in jeans, only if it’s in lighter colours though as darker twill is a complete fluff magnet! These are not like that, they are just comfortable and nice on the skin.
The Black Cherry wash, where do I start, it’s amazing! It has to be my favourite from their coloured twill skinnies collection. As you know from my post yesterday, I adore berry coloured jeans and these remind me of the berries on holly bushes as well as some pretty Winter berries that you start seeing around this time of year. It’s such a rich, deep and dark red but it’s not too dark that it looks brown. I think the pictures just speak for themselves really when I say how pretty it is. I think darker reds are one of the easiest coloured jeans to wear because they still remain an ‘acceptable’ colour in my opinion. I definitely plan on wearing these more often purely because of the Black Cherry wash. I think if they brought these out in the 910 or 901 cut, they would be even more perfect! Buy these jeans online at J Brand for $169.

This weeks review is on a pair of DL1961 Jessica skinny jeans in Liberty that I got sent by the brand. I first tried DL1961 about 2 years ago and I really loved how they fitted me.
The fit of these is a classic 12″ skinny with a mid rise so they are a standard style skinny jean but they have a difference. The back pockets feature one zipper above the right pocket. This is a trademark of their Jessica fit and I love it! It makes the jeans much more unique but in a subtle way. The zipper is narrow and not ‘in your face’ like some can be so the jeans still have a classy feel to them. I did take a 28 in these as when I tried the 27’s 2 years ago, they were really tight. I think they have changed their sizing a bit now though as these 28’s are quite loose on me, especially in the leg area. A 27 would have fitted much better I think.
DL1961 make their jeans from their special 4 way stretch X-Fit fabric which means the jeans stretch with your body when you move but they don’t stretch out and they don’t lose their shape, which I think is fantastic! So many jeans become really baggy and loose after a lot of wears and they never fit how they used to. This X-Fit fabric eliminates that and makes them stay pretty much exactly the same as when you first got them. I have only worn these once and so far so good but I plan to wear them a lot longer.
The wash is a pretty dark blue called Liberty. I usually get a bit repetitive when reviewing the same dark blue shades of denim but these have some character to them. The wash makes the fabric look like it has depth and it’s quite bright. It also has subtle whiskering on the lap area and a slight, very slight, fading on the knee area which makes the jeans look a lot nicer. It makes them seem like they mould to your body more because the fading and whiskering is in the correct place. They also feature little faded lines around the front pocket area and the DL1961 trademark logo on the top right of the back right pocket.
A lot of celebs have become a fan of the brand over the last half a year and I know why. They do make amazing jeans, especially for comfort, these are super comfortable and so soft! I love that about them! I would definitely recommend the brand to anyone wanting a pair of classic 12″ skinny jeans that don’t end up sagging. They are wonderful! Buy these jeans online for $178.
This weeks review is on a pair of Goldsign Misfit jeans in Chimie which I got sent from the brand. I haven’t ever tried Goldsign before but I do know quite a lot about the brand so it’s nice to finally wear a pair.
These are supposed to be a straight leg slim fitting jean but I got sent a sample pair and I think the sizing is wrong as the 27 fits me more like a boyfriend jean. I think this shows how versatile they are though, they can fit really slim like they are supposed to or they can still look good worn loose like a boyfriend jean. I find a lot of jeans that are supposed to fit skinny and tight look really bad worn loosely because they are not cut right, but these look fine. I also cuffed the hems as they are quite long, they would be fine if they were worn with heels but since I am wearing flats they definitely need cuffing. I also think boyfriend jeans look best cuffed.
Even though this is a grey wash, it does attract fluff. I usually find it happens with black jeans the most but if you have pets in the house make sure you store these away as they will be a pair that picks up all the hairs. It’s nothing negative about the jeans though, it happens a lot of the time and it can’t be helped! I do like the wash though, it’s nice to do a grey wash as I am used to doing the blues or coloured denim. It’s a grey that has some depth to it because it has whiskering and lighter areas on it.
I can’t really tell a lot from these about how flattering the back pocket placement is because they don’t fit me tightly but from what I have seen on fit models and celebs, they look really good. The forward stitching details on the belt loops and tops of the pockets are really cute too, I like that detail on them! They are comfortable as well. Are any of you a fan of Goldsign and want to comment your opinion on them too? Buy these jeans at Diani for $235.
This weeks review is on a pair of Nobody Mod Straight jeans in Navy. I was really excited about trying Nobody Denim, purely because I have heard a lot of good things about the brand. Things like the soft denim and wonderful fit are two things that come to mind when people have mentioned Nobody to me before. I did originally want to try a pair of their skinnies, I love the medium distressed pairs but they didn’t have any left so I got to try these straight leg jeans. I don’t often review straight leg jeans on DenimBlog, I think I have reviewed only one pair, so it makes a nice change really.
I have to say, everyone was right when they said the denim was super soft. It is! It’s really buttery and smooth against the skin and it has a texture like thick silk to it, it’s really comfortable and stretchy to wear and that’s definitely one thing that’s important to me when being attracted to jeans. I love the fabric to be soft and wearable, there really is nothing worse than wearing a pair of scratchy and uncomfortable jeans in my opinion. The fabric combined with the straight leg cut definitely makes the jeans wonderful. They are a lower rise fit with a slim straight leg. I’m saying slim because they only just about fit over my heels while other straight legs I have fit over my heels quite loosely. These are a slim fit all over though so I think that’s the reason.
Another thing I like is the unique pocket embroidery, they just use a line and a dot on the right back pocket and nothing else. I think this keeps them really simple but you can still tell what brand they are. I wasn’t sure how the pocket placement was going to be with Nobody jeans but I was pleasantly suprised, they are very symmetrical and they sit in the right place on your butt. I did find the pockets to be quite big though, well not as big as Current/Elliott but a little bigger than most premium denim pockets. This isn’t something that bothers me as I don’t mind bigger pockets at all but I know it can be something that does bother a few people as it can elongate your butt a little or make it look flatter if your butt isn’t on the rounded side.
The wash is exactly as it’s called, it’s navy, a fabric/matte type of navy colour as it doesn’t have a sheen to it or anything. It’s a wash that’s a classic and can be worn anywhere really. I can definitely see why celebs like Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum are repeat wearers of Nobody Denim, they are wonderfully soft and comfortable while being flattering at the same time. I can definitely say I would love to try more! Especially the skinnies, I think I may have to do some Nobody Denim shopping when it’s sale time! Buy Nobody jeans at DonnaIda.com.
