Designer Jeans reviews
Back in January, I was invited to the Luisaviroma bloggers event ‘Firenze4Eva’ in Florence, Italy. Since it was all the way in Italy though, I was unable to attend unfortunately, but we decided to do the style lab a little differently this time! Usually at the Firenze4Eva events, bloggers get to choose some outfits from the new collections and either style them on themselves or on a model which Luisaviaroma provide. For this one, we decided that I would choose an outfit online from their website and they would mail the clothes to me, then I would put the outfit together and shoot the photos that way, then send them back. I think it worked quite well!
I chose a pair of Dsquared Super Slim washed jeans, which I paired with an American Retro cropped sleeve Crepe shirt in Fuchsia and a pair of Yves Saint Laurent 140mm Palais Suede Peep Toe Pumps in Marine.
Obviously it wasn’t mandatory to choose jeans, but being part of DenimBlog, it only makes sense to! This was actually my first time trying Dsquared jeans and they fit really nicely, I love all the little details on them, especially the ankle zips and the imitation double back pockets and obviously the wash. They are really pretty jeans! The American Retro shirt is also something that I wouldn’t usually choose, but I was very much attracted to it! The size Small ended up being really large, so I had to use my own belt to hold it in at the waist, which gave a better silhouette.
Now, the YSL shoes! I had never tried them before, but I definitely always wanted to! They were a lot more comfortable and pretty in person than I expected. Plus, the Marine colour is such a beautiful shade! I loved it! I only wore them to stand for these photos as I took my own flats to the location, but they definitely felt comfortable, which makes a change from the usual painful Christian Louboutin heels that I have worn in the past.
So this is the outfit that I chose and put together for the Luisaviaroma styling session. What do you think of it? Comment and let me know! Choosing the entire outfit online was a little tricky as I wasn’t sure how everything would fit or how it would look all together in person, but I am quite happy with the outcome. All of the products are available to buy at Luisaviaroma.com and you can click the names of the items a couple of paragraphs up to take you to the direct page to buy!
This weeks review is on a pair of Joe’s Jeans The Skinny in Geranium, courtesy of Joe’s Jeans. This was my first time trying Joe’s actual jeans actually and I was pleasantly suprised. I remember trying a pair of their pocket-less leggings last year and they were cut in the shape of legs, so there was more room in the calf area which didn’t work for me as I have small calves. I hadn’t tried any other pair from the brand since, but I was always intrigued by their 55 colours range!
I know pretty much every brand has released their take on the coloured denim trend which blew up last year, but Joe’s really took it to the next level. They released their famous The Skinny cut in 55 different colours and each one of them is different. You can literally find the colour you are looking for and I think that’s amazing! I chose the Geranium colour as the red/orange/pink tones are my favourites and this shade combines them all. Lauren Conrad has this pair too and she looks great in hers.
The Skinny fit is just as it’s called, it’s a mid rise long length skinny with an inseam of around 34″ which is quite long. Since they are very slim at the ankle though, the bunching doesn’t really look bad at all, I think it looks quite nice and they seem like they make my legs look really long. Even when I wear them with flats. I love it when jeans create that illusion on their own!
They are very soft as well, the fabric definitely feels nice against the skin, really smooth and it’s not uncomfortable at all. I took my usual size of 27 in these, but I am thinking I should have taken a 26 as they seem to stretch out quite a lot. They fit perfectly when I put them on, but after half a day of wear they have got quite wrinkly and a bit baggy. I would say go with your smaller size in these, but if you don’t want them to be tight then stick to your regular size. Sometimes having jeans looser makes them even more comfortable though.
The back pocket placement on these is quite nice too, they are positioned central and slightly angled which makes them flattering on the butt. I find with most premium denim brands though, the back pocket placement is always good. That’s the thing with premium denim, it’s premium for a reason. They take care in their fits and really make sure that they fit as perfectly as they can. This is the main reason I love premium denim. Most lower priced brands just have a basic cut and don’t worry about fit at all. Some do, but most don’t. But these Joe’s Jeans are definitely flattering. I really like how they look, fit and feel. Even the branding is subtle, the signature stitching is the same colour as the jeans so it blends in and the little metal Joe’s logo is quite sweet! I like it!
The Geranium wash has to be my favourite one out of all of the 55 colours! It literally looks just like a Geranium flower. You could call it a red shade, but it has orange and pink undertones which makes it more like a bright an intense reddy coral. How it turned out in these photos is just how it looks in real life. It’s absolutely beautiful and I find it so easy to pair with things. I can’t wait to wear them again! They are the perfect bright jeans!
The only thing negative I can say about these is they stretch out loads, but that’s not really a specific problem to these jeans, that happens with most non-jegging jeans. If someone said to me though, can you recommend a good pair of coloured skinny jeans, I would definitely direct them towards Joe’s Jeans. They have a great fit and you can literally choose any colour you like! Plus another bonus point is that they are a little bit cheaper than most premium denim brands. I find most jeans run at around $190 ish and these have a price point of $158. Buy these online at Joe’s Jeans for $158.
This weeks review is on a pair of 7 For All Mankind The Cropped Skinny jeans in Hot Neon Pink. I got sent these by the brand to review. I had a choice of all of their neon colours, but pink is my favourite, so I was more than excited to do this review!
The Cropped Skinny fit is their signature unbranded pocket The Skinny style but in a cropped version. I’ve always been a big fan of this fit, in full length, but it was always just too long and bunched up a lot. I don’t have that much time to hem my jeans, so I welcomed these for Summer with open arms! They are probably supposed to be a bit shorter, but with my small legs they hit just above the ankle. I think they are adorable!
7 For All Mankind really know what they are doing when they make their jeans. They have their flattering fit down to an art form and I love that! The back pockets are gorgeous, they are positioned nicely to be flattering, they are skinny all the way down, the rise is not too high and they have next to no branding on them at all except for their little tab on the right back pocket. The Skinny is my 2nd favourite fit from them as Gwenevere is the my 1st!I took these in my usual size of 27 and they fitted perfectly as soon as I put them on. I wore them around for a few hours and they did stretch out quite a lot, so I would recommend going with your smaller size if you are in-between sizes as these will stretch out about half a size the first time you wear them. I think they will give more, but I haven’t worn them again yet. I plan to soon though. I’m already thinking about what to pair them with.
The Hot Neon Pink wash is beautiful! I have been a bit apprehensive about reviewing neon jeans, since I reviewed those fluoro yellow Closed cropped skinnies and the colour wouldn’t show up right, but these really made me love the trend. The camera even picked up the colour correctly. I would say the close up of my legs in image 4 is about the shade of pink that they are. These are neon, but they are not so intense that they startle your eyes. They are sort of a muted and washed out neon pink, I would say they have a bit of a pastel undertone to them so they are not too bold and unwearable. This is what makes me love these so much! They are bright, but not overly bright like some I have seen. They are definitely perfect for Summer!
Even though these are their normal jeans, they don’t feel stiff or uncomfortable. I’m very used to jeggings now, so I love soft and stretchy denim and these are still soft and stretchy. The fabric is very lightweight and thin so it makes them more comfortable and they have the 2% elsatane in them to help with the comfort. I could happily wear these all day and be comfortable. Which is important to me. It’s nice to find that they still care about these kinds of things when they are making a fashion jean rather than a classic jean. I honestly can’t wait to wear these more!
I decided to wear them with flats because I don’t often show many photos with me in flats and I do wear them fairly often. Plus it shows the actual length of the jeans on me. If I could change one thing, I might make them a little shorter or longer, but that’s purely because of having shorter legs. I think when I wear them again I am going to cuff them a little at the hem! I think these are my favourite neon jeans so far! Buy these online at 7ForAllMankind.com for $169 and you can see the Neon Green pair on Jessica Alba here.
This is my second review on the blog. This one will be on an actual pair of denim, I reviewed the J Brand Corporal Pants a few months back. I will be reviewing a pair of the J Brand Kane Slim Straight jeans in Raw Selvedge for this one.
I took these in a size 30. I find them to run a bit smaller in the waist, about a size and a half, compared to their Corporal pants, but that may be due to the fact that they are denim and not twill. I find the fit in the leg to be a bit baggy on me, but that is just on me though. My legs are more on the skinnier side. I don’t mind wearing baggy styles, it’s just these are cut straight so they look like they are hanging on a hanger when I wear them. Hence why I lean towards women’s or tapered styles. Another reason is also length, many of the men’s jeans run on the longer side, around a 34″-36″ inseam (these have a 34″). Tailoring can fix that though.
The material of them is really great. The weaving is what I like. When I see weaving like this, I can stare at the jeans all day and be amazed each time. They also feel really sturdy, yet they still feel really soft. Many of the jeans that are on the sturdier side tend to be really itchy for me. Especially with this Southern California weather that has an identity crises and it goes from cold to burning hot within an hour of just throwing jeans on.
Now for the wash. This has to be my favorite part of the jeans itself. They remind me of a pair of Levi’s that I had quite a few years ago that I wore to death. The wash pretty much goes with everything and for everything (well not formal events of course). They are a dark blue wash with navy/black undertones. I find this to be the perfect combo when getting a pair of dark clean denim. I’ve seen quite a few pairs that tend to be on the more indigo side which I don’t really like, but these don’t. The wash is one of the best dark blues, in my opinion.
Though the fit was off for me, I would still recommend these for other people. I have seen quite a few instances when they do fit and look amazing on the person. The wash itself will make just about anyone fall for them. Out of all the styles from their men’s collection, the Johnny and Dylan might be a better fit on me since they are tapered. You can click here to purchase these jeans from the J Brand website for $196.
