Denim Review: Hudson Nico Skinny Jeans in Chelsea

hudson jeggings Denim Review: Hudson Nico Skinny Jeans in Chelsea

This weeks review is on a brand new cut from Hudson, the Nico skinny in Chelsea which I got sent to try by the brand. The Nico is Hudson’s newest jean and it’s their skinniest 5 pocket yet. It was inspired by Nico, the famed singer and Warhol muse and has a 60′s chic style.

The fit of these jeans is absolutely perfect! I wasn’t expecting them to be so comfortable either. Usually I find normal jeans to be a bit stiff when worn so tight but these feel so soft, just like jeggings. I could happily wear these all day and be comfortable. The Nico has a 10″ leg opening and a 30″ inseam so they are super skinny and perfect for hitting at the ankle or bunching just a little bit like they do on me. They also have a higher rise of 9″ which is something I am not used to and don’t usually find very flattering on me but these some how work. I think because they kept the pocket placement normal and didn’t make them higher like they are on most higher rise jeans, they are still flattering. Plus the rise gives you a better silhouette as you don’t get muffin top with it or builders butt! I took a 27 in these which is my usual Hudson size and they fit perfectly.

They are made from refined tencel denim which gives the Nico a super soft feel, a radiant sheen, ultimate stretch comfort and a perfect fit. I completely agree with this! I usually get fed up of dark washes because they are all the same but these have a beautiful sheen to them and it brings the jeans to life, it makes them much more easy to wear and nicer to look at. I find shiny denim gives off a more classy feel as well. The Chelsea wash is a versatile deep and rich indigo which I have fallen in love with. I think it’s the perfect shade to go with anything and everything and for day or night wear. The jeans have the finest stitch detail too which makes them really sleek and fitted.

These don’t have Hudson’s classic pointed flap pocket either, these have just a plain pocket with a little imprint of a flap pocket on them. I find these to be much more flattering than their classic pockets, I’m not really a fan of flaps on my pockets so these are the perfect alternative to that. I think if I could only have one dark pair of jeans then it would be these or a pair with exactly the same wash. I think this is the type of wash that you would have most use for and find the easiest to match your clothes with. I decided to do a colour block outfit with 3 different colours to go with the jeans and it works. I definitely love these and I am glad I got to review them. The comfort combined with the super skinny fit and the dark blue sheen wash are all perfect combinations! Plus they have a slightly lower price point to most premium jeans! Buy these jeans online at Hudson for $154.

Denim Review: Levi’s Curve ID Slight Curve Skinnies

09.07.2011 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

slight curve 9 Denim Review: Levis Curve ID Slight Curve Skinnies

This weeks review pictures are a little different as I have been sick and wasn’t able to take pictures this weekend. These photos are from an old set which I never got around to posting because they came out a bit blurry and dark or too light etc but I have cropped some of them to the best parts and most are close ups. They are the Levi’s Curve ID Slight Curve skinny jeans.

I think the Curve ID concept that Levi’s came up with is wonderful! Having 4 different fits for different shaped women, it’s really something that needed to be done. So many of us are different shapes and sizes, some of us have large hips and a small waist, others have small hips and thighs etc. Not everyone fits the same styles and it’s amazing how different the fits are. I have tried the Bold Curve, the Demi Curve and the Slight Curve all in my size and they fit so differently!

The Bold Curve I couldn’t actually button up very well because of the small waist and the thighs and butt area were much too big on me, this cut is for the curvy ladies really. The Demi Curve fitted me in the waist and the butt but the thigh area was a bit loose on me so I tried the Slight Curve and that works out to be perfect! I have quite small legs so this Slight Curve accounts for that. It fits slim all the way down and it fits nicely in the butt area. It is a little tight in the waist but I do often have that problem, getting jeans to fit my legs is more important to me really. I haven’t tried the 4th cut, the Supreme Curve, because I know that wont fit me either, it’s for ladies with more curves.

I actually think that the Curve ID range is Levi’s best range because of how easy it is to find the perfect fitting jean for your shape. I have to say that these jeans fit me near enough perfectly, they are a little long and not quite as skinny as I would like but that’s because they are just a classic skinny and not a super skinny or ankle peg jean. The rise is a good height and the pocket placement is great. They make your butt look really rounded. The dark wash and material is one that attracts a lot of hairs though unfortunately, as you can see from the butt picture below, they are a hair magnet. I often get that with black jeans and these are a really dark navy which is pretty much almost black so I can understand why it happens.

I would definitely recommend that you try out the Curve ID range! You can take the test online on their website by clicking here where you answer questions and they tell you which fit will be best for you. It’s fun and then you can shop their Curve ID jeans. The best part is they are around $60 – $80! I think that’s a great price, but for us ladies in the UK they are around £85 as Levi’s are always a lot more expensive over here. Buy Levi’s Slight Curve jeans online at Levi’s.com.

Denim Review: Kasil Minx skinny in Bolero

09.02.2011 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

kasil 3 Denim Review: Kasil Minx skinny in Bolero

My second review this week is on the Kasil Minx skinny jeans in Bolero which I got sent from the brand. This is actually my first time trying Kasil jeans and I was really suprised. I wasn’t expecting them to be as nice as they are! Usually when I find a premium denim brand that works for me, I tend to stick to it so I don’t venture into other brands I feel like I am not close to. I love doing denim reviews for this reason, I get to try out the different brands and see how they compare to what I have grown to love and know about premium denim.

The fit of these is one that suprised me, they are a super skinny lower/medium rise jean and I find them to be very flattering. The inseam was a bit long for me though (33″) so I did have to ‘bunch tuck’ them (I still plan on doing a video to show you how to do this). The pocket placement was actually what suprised me about these jeans though. I’m often weary of other brands because I never know if the pockets will look ok. The back pocket placement is the first thing I look for in a pair of jeans actually. These are perfectly positioned and I actually find them really flattering on the butt. The side of the pockets have a slight roundness to them which gives your butt a more rounded look.

This Bolero wash is a simple and classic dark blue. It’s not super clean and it doesn’t really have a sheen to it, it’s a slightly grainy/rougher dark blue so it means you can dress them down a lot easier but you can also dress them up. The wash of these isn’t my favourite part of the jeans because I often review a lot of dark skinny jeans so I have to be careful that I don’t blend the washes into a blur in my reviews. My favourite jeans to review have medium, coloured or distressed washes because you can really talk about the wash. I find it difficult when they are dark all the time. My favourite dark washes are the super clean, dark blue with a sheen to them. I love those! This Bolero wash does suit the style of the jeans though, I don’t find them to be too smart because of the detailed stitching by the side of the back pockets so it fits fine.

I think if you haven’t tried Kasil before then you should probably start out with the Minx skinny fit, if you like skinnies of course. It’s a great fitting skinny and really flattering. I took a 27 in these which is generally my normal size in premium denim but as I haven’t tried Kasil before, I don’t know if these are true to size for the brand. I would assume they are though. Also, even though these have polyester in them, it’s not really that much of a problem. I can feel it a bit and I think if it was hot it might be a bit irritable on me but otherwise, it’s not much of an issue. You will also have to excuse the state of my hair ha ha, I’d just returned from the beach and it was super windy. Buy these jeans at Piperlime for $168.

Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Stiletto in Canteen

08.30.2011 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

stiletto canteen 21 Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Stiletto in Canteen

I’m going to be doing 2 denim reviews this week and the first one is this pair, the Current/Elliott The Stiletto skinny jeans in Canteen which I got sent from the brand. I had been obsessing over these jeans for such a long time on Shopbop so I was really excited to know that they would be sending me a pair! They have quickly become a pair that I wear often and are better than I expected!

Current/Elliott, in my opinion, have really upped their game this season. There weren’t many washes and styles I liked from the brand early this year or late last year but this Spring/Summer 2011 collection has been amazing! They have used such beautiful medium and light washes in some gorgeous cuts! I’ve actually been wanting so many pairs from them lately but I can’t buy them all!

I want to start this review by saying that The Stiletto cut is actually now my favourite cut they do! It used to be their normal ankle skinny jean but it’s now 100% The Stiletto. It’s the best fit for me because the rise is low and the inseam grazes the ankles. There is no bunching and the calves are super skinny so they make a tight fit all the way down. Right from the hips to the hem as you can see in the pictures. They are the perfect skinny jean for those of us with shorter legs and they would make a great cropped jean for those of you blessed with longer legs! I think they have that perfect versatile fit/length which will work for most body types. I find that hard to find in a jean sometimes, a lot only work for certain heights and shapes but these will work for all. They definitely paid attention to where these jeans should hit at the ankles.

The Canteen wash is what originally attracted me to these jeans. I found it to be the right blend of light and medium with with perfect amounts of whiskering and fading in areas. When I got these in person I realised they were even nicer than the photos online. They are a wash that you need to see in person to take in all the little detailed areas. I think these are definitely done well because sometimes you can have jeans with whiskering at the lap and they can make your hips look really wide or just weird, these are subtle enough to make them look worn in but they also don’t give any bad illusions to your figure. I’m finding it difficult to explain just how beautiful this Canteen wash is because I think pictures never do them justice! These, and the 7 For All Mankind Gweneveres in Zuma Sunrise I reviewed 2 weeks ago, are my favourite jeans right now. I can’t stop wearing either of them!

The fabric of these jeans is also another thing that makes me love them so much! If you have tried Current/Elliott before then you will know they make their denim super soft and really stretchy. These are definitely no exception! When I pulled them out of the packaging, I thought to myself ‘wow, these look tiny!’ but they fitted me perfectly. I took a 26 which is my normal size in the brand and I would say they are definitely true to size. They have a tonne of stretch to them which makes them incredibly comfortable and a jean that’s easy to wear for long periods of time. The denim also feels really soft and light, they actually feel similar to a jegging but they are not. The fabric is amazing!

I would say that these are definitely a pair of Current/Elliott jeans that you should own. They are very versatile with the wash and fit and so comfortable. They have all the classic simplicity that the brand offers too, the plain pockets and the small Current/Elliott logo which is written on the jeans instead of a patch. They are very minimal but amazing at the same time. I think that’s why I love the brand so much! These have sold out in a lot of places but you can buy them online at Neimen Marcus for $194.
