Denim Video: Comparison Between Paige’s New & Old Jeans

02.06.2012 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

This is a little video I put together, showing you the differences between the new Paige jeans and the old Paige jeans. We announced to you a little while ago that Paige has re-launched the design of her jeans to fit the growth of the company and marry the men’s and women’s styles together. This video shows you the new buttons, rivets, labels and tags in comparison to the original ones. Both of the jeans are Verdugo Leggings, one being Paige Blue and the other being Tumble.

You can also see below the new and old tags. The new tags are from the Tumble jeans (tie-dye) and the old tags are actually from my collaboration Lorna jeans. These are the only tags I have from the older styles, they are pretty much exactly the same, just without it saying ‘special collaboration’ and they are usually blue, rather than pink.

Denim Review: J Brand 901 Leggings in Coated Red

02.02.2012 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

lorna burford j brand jeans Denim Review: J Brand 901 Leggings in Coated Red

This weeks review is on a pair of jeans that I have been in love with for many months now. The J Brand 901 Leggings in Coated Red. I got sent these by Trilogy Stores to review and I was so excited to get them! I remember the first time I saw these jeans on a celeb, it was on Rihanna (I added her photo to the gallery) and I thought they looked incredible on her! Then when I tried these at Donna Ida for the Denim Clinic visit, I fell in love! I have included one of those images too.

These jeans were actually my first time trying the 901 fit. Usually I find J Brand to be quite sturdy and not super stretchy, so it was a nice suprise to try these and find that they actually are very stretchy and comfortable. They are a legging jean and they fit well with a low rise and a shorter inseam. They are definitely a great fitting legging jean, I am very tempted to try more of their 901 leggings out actually, in normal denim. The only thing I find to be different with this particular pair is the back pockets, they seem to be set wider apart than the other J Brand’s and that’s not something I am fond of. I prefer the back pockets to be positioned in the middle of the butt, not around the sides, so that’s one thing I would love to change about these.

I sized down to a 26 in these (my true size is a 27) and although they fit, they are very tight. They have stretched out a little bit, but from this I would be inclined to say these run true to size. A 27 would have fitted me much better, but unfortunately it was out of stock. The fabric blend of these is also just cotton and elastane, this makes me really happy because a lot of coated jeans have polyester and other fabric blends in them.

Now for the wash, this Coated Red colour is stunning! I love the shade of it, it’s such a rich and deep red and it’s beautiful, it goes with many things and there is nothing negative to say about the colour at all. As for the coating on these, it’s a lot different to most waxed jeans. Usually waxed jeans have a thin layer of coating on them and you can feel the denim through it, but these have a thick layer of coating all over them, which feels quite plasticy actually, but it’s not on top of a thick denim so it doesn’t make them stiff and uncomfortable. The fabric moves well even though it’s very coated. These actually look a lot like leather so J Brand did an incredible job with this waxing technique!

There is one negative to this fabric though, the wrinkling! As you can see from my photos, these wrinkle an awful lot, because the fabric is so thin and stretchy, which makes it clingy, combined with the heavy coating, it really does make the jeans bunch up all over the legs, especially just under the butt area and around the knee/ankle area. I am hoping that this will disappear a bit with more wear, but I am unsure on that due to the material. I would say, maybe, to avoid this wrinkling effect, go up a size? I haven’t tried a 28 in these so I can’t be sure it would eliminate the problem, but I feel like the tighter they are, the more they wrinkle. I have got used to it though and it doesn’t look so bad from the front, I think they look quite nice from the front, it just gives the illusion that you squashed yourself into the jeans, in my opinion. A bit like a stuffed sausage, ha ha. But I haven’t (yet) worn these enough to see how they are with wear. I will keep you informed.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing these jeans in the cold though. It’s freezing cold here in England (in the minuses) and I made the mistake of wearing these out in the low temperatures and my legs froze. As soon as I stepped out, the cold hit my legs really bad, it seems like the plasticy coating on them gets cold very quickly and it makes all of your legs freezing. These are definitely warmer weather jeans in my opinion! One thing that’s really good about these J Brand jeans though is that they are not a hair magnet! Usually every pair of coated jeans I have had attract hair, bits, fluff and everything else, but these don’t. Nothing sticks to them at all, that’s a huge bonus!

Although I have listed a lot of points about these jeans, I do really like them. I think they are one of the best coated red jeans on the market, they look a lot like real leather even though they are denim, they have a wonderful fit from the front, they are very stretchy and comfortable, they don’t attract hair and fluff… They have many good points! I would recommend them to you definitely if you want nice coated red leggings, just don’t size down in them and hopefully that might make the back pockets fit the butt better as well as limit the wrinkling a bit. I did notice that Rihanna’s pair didn’t crease up as much as mine do. Buy these jeans online at Trilogy Stores here.

Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Stiletto in Grey Leopard

01.27.2012 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

current elliott grey leopard 7 Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Stiletto in Grey Leopard

This weeks second review is on the Current/Elliott The Stiletto skinny jeans in Grey Leopard. If you are big fans of DenimBlog, you might remember when I first posted about these jeans and fell in love with them, many months ago. I finally took the plunge and bought them from Shopbop a couple of weeks ago and I am so happy that I finally did! I was hesitant for such a long time about spending so much money on a ‘fun’ pair of jeans, but I realised that these can easily be a staple jean as they are subtle!

The fit of these is actually my favourite cut from Current/Elliott. The Stiletto is their perfect skinny jean! It’s got a shorter inseam so it hits at the ankle and it’s super slim all over, the rise is low and I find it to be their most flattering cut. I took a size 27 in these instead of a 26 because I wanted to be comfortable in them from the off, usually I wear mine around a bit to stretch them out so they fit perfectly for a long time, but I realised that I usually end up wearing my jeans a little looser most of the time as it’s much more comfortable. I would say these ran true to size though and the denim is comfortable as it’s 98% cotton and 2% elastane.

Now the leopard print, where do I start! These are actually my favourite leopard print jeans that any denim brand has ever brought out! I love them even more than those Rebecca Minkoff ones from a couple of years ago! What makes me attracted to these is that they are subtle, unlike most brands who make the leopard print really full on, these are much more easy to wear because they essentially count as grey jeans. I also really love that the leopard spots are in a darker grey instead of a different colour and the fact that each leg is different, they are not symmetrical, makes them even better!

I can definitely see why these have been one of the brands biggest sellers! Everywhere has been restocking them constantly and so many celebs have worn them as well as many other bloggers, they are just such an easy take on the leopard print trend and so versatile! I’m glad that Current/Elliott know this too because they released these leopard jeans in so many colours! One of my favourites being the Fig wash, which is a dark red, and most recently, the new pastel shades! How many of you are a fan of their leopard print jeans? I would definitely recommend them to anyone! I’m so glad I finally bit the bullet and bought them! They make such a fun addition to my jeans collection! Buy these jeans online at Shopbop.com for $198.

Denim Review: Paige Denim Verdugo Ultra Skinny in Tumble

01.24.2012 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

paige tumble Denim Review: Paige Denim Verdugo Ultra Skinny in Tumble

This weeks review is on a pair of Paige jeans that I picked up at the press day in London late last year. They are the Paige Verdugo Ultra Skinny jeggings in Tumble wash. They have just been released last week on Paige’s website, so they are available to buy now. This particular wash is featured a lot in Paige’s campaign style photos and I understand why, they are such a statement pair!

The Verdugo cut, like I have mentioned before, is a fantastic jegging. It’s really flattering, incredibly skinny and so comfortable! It’s everything a jegging should be! These are slightly different to the normal Verdugo’s though, they are thicker and they feel more clingy, although I think the tighter clingy feeling is purely because of the thicker denim. These are definitely a lot more sturdy than the normal Verdugo jeggings!

The Tumble wash is really different, every pair is unique, so no two pairs will be the same due to the tie dye process they use. I think that’s really cool and it makes the jeans that little bit more special! My pair has a lot more red in it, which is what I prefer because I love red in denim. I never really thought the pairing of red, orange and then purple would go together. Purple and orange have always felt like contrasting colours to me, but it somehow works really well!

One issue I found with these jeans was clothing to pair with them, I went down the neutral route because the jeans are so bold and bright, I didn’t want too much of an overpowering outfit and other colours might make the outfit ‘too much’ so definitely keep everything else neutral. It really makes the jeans stand out and look amazing, but it does limit your other clothing options. Sometimes I don’t mind that though, if you have a statement piece, you just have to work with it rather than try to style it too much.

Another point is that I feel like these give the illusion that my legs are bigger than they are from the front, when I am walking or moving it’s fine, but stood still, because of the 2 bigger red patches on the front of the thighs, it does create an illusion that my thighs are larger than they usually are. That’s just my opinion, I’m not sure how you readers feel about them? Do you think the print here makes my legs bigger? From the other photos I have seen of these jeans on models and online, that isn’t the case as the other pairs I’ve seen don’t have the big tie dye patches on the front of the thighs. Since every pair is unique, it’s hard to say what illusion each pair will create, that’s something I find really intriguing though, the differences in each jean.

I haven’t worn these out yet, I have around my home, but not out properly. I absolutely love how fun they are, but they are quite bold. I personally feel like I need to be in a brave mood to make these work. They are definitely going to be eye catchers! I did take my usual size 27 in these and they fit perfectly too, so they are true to size for the Paige Verdugo jeggings. I’m really interested to know your opinion on these though! What do you think of them? I would love to see them on some celebs! Buy these jeans online at PaigeUSA.com for $199.

Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Roller Jeans in Kentucky Blue

01.19.2012 Posted in Designer Jeans reviews by Lorna, Editor

ce roller 3 Denim Review: Current/Elliott The Roller Jeans in Kentucky Blue

This weeks review is on an older style of jeans, Current/Elliott’s The Roller jeans in Kentucky Blue. I got these from Hautelook when they were having a Current/Elliott sale a couple of months ago. Usually I only like the brands skinny jeans and sometimes their Low Bell flares, so it was a change to try these out.

The Roller fit is one that I find slightly awkward on myself. On loads of other people it looks really good, but I think because I don’t have very long legs, having the cuff at the bottom and the slight dropped crotch, it makes my legs look even shorter and because they are not a fitted skinny, they are slouchy, that also makes my legs look a big wider. I don’t have a problem with them being slouchy, I’m quite fond of that in jeans, but the cuff as well is what makes my short legs look even shorter. I think this style would be so flattering on the longer legged ladies though, it’s a really well cut looser fitting skinny.

I took a size 26 in these, which is my usual Current/Elliott size, but I think I could have done with going up one size. They are slightly slouchy on me, but I would prefer them to be a bit more loose, I think it would add to the boyfriend effect more. They are very soft though, just like most of their jeans, the denim is a soft and thin denim which feels nice against the skin. Since they are supposed to fit looser, the rise is very low, as you can see. This isn’t something that I mind at all, I prefer low rises, but I know a lot of you like higher rises, so I find it important to mention if jeans have low rises.

The Kentucky Blue wash though, that’s my favourite part of these jeans! I love it! I’m always a fan of Current/Elliott’s lighter blue washes, Emily and Meritt always do such a good job of adding the right amount of fading and whiskering in the correct places. They really do have it down to an art form in my opinion. I know they have been straying away from lighter blues in favour of the bright colours and trends of the moment, but I would love for them to bring out some more blues, much like this one.

Overall, it’s a complicated feeling that I have with these jeans. I really like the actual jeans, very much, but I find they are not the best for my body shape, so in essence what I would like is to make my legs longer, ha ha. What are your experiences with The Roller jeans? I did get a lot of compliments on them though, a few people said they were really nice. I plan on wearing them more though because I am hoping that once they stretch out, they will mold to my body shape more and fit me better! Buy these jeans at Revolve Clothing for $198.
