MAC problems?

i have always been a big fan of MAC's quality, but i'm having trouble with a brush i just bought. i wanted a replacement kabuki brush for my bare escentuals (the BE one sucks) so i dropped $45 for MAC's #182. i loove how it's super soft, but it sheds EVERYWHERE! after i do my makeup i have tons of little black hairs all over my face.. it's disgusting. for $45, i would expect better! what are my odds of taking the (used) brush back to MAC and complaining for a refund? is this even possible, or am i screwed?

My Mac-obssessed roommate says that they will take it back without a hassle at all, but they'll probably try to get you to exchange it for a new one because it's probably a defect that it sheds so much. They are pretty good about exchanges, she has brought back eyeshadow pans that didn't look the way she wanted it to and they just let her pick a new color. She says they may do a refund too, but isn't sure because she has never had to get a refund, only exchanges.

Any professional brand of makeup like MAC will take anything back, used or not.

That is one of the benefits you are paying for in the price.

Plus, if their kabuki brush sucks, they should know about it! Let us know if the new one is better or if you go to a different brand. I am in the market for a new kabuki myself.

The exact same thing happened to me, but now I don't have the receipt and I paid $50 something for mine

uh-oh i don't have the receipt for mine either.. hope they won't mind.

casey, i was thinking of trying the chanel one.. i've heard good things about it!

They usually require a receipt if you are returning it. I remember a lipstick of mine broke, and I couldn't use it, and I tried returning it and they wouldn't let me without a receipt. Then I told a friend about it when we were in the mall, and she told me to give it to her, and she'd get it replaced....they told her the same thing as me, but she was adamant about getting it replaced, and after some bickering, they replaced it...just be stern and don't take no for an answer. Just say "I didn't keep the receipt because USUALLY I am 100% satisfied with your products, so I just toss the receipt. If I knew that this brush was gonna do this, I would have kept the receipt."

Yeah, they wouldn't let me return a compact because I threw away the reciept. They can look you up in the system, though. They spelled my name wrong, though(stores always do, and it pisses me off)

Another thing you might be able to say is, "Clearly this is your product, so you should stand behind it whether or not I have a receipt for it. This is not something I bought at a drugstore and am trying to return here. It's a MAC brush, and whether or not I have a receipt, you guys should be liable for the quality of your products."

Haha I always have the same problem of people spelling my name wrong, especially my last name, and it also really pisses me off too!!!

With my first name though, I don't understand how hard it is to spell Courtney (I have seen all kinds of spellings I can't figure out) and my last name is butchered all the time argh!

ok so i decided to try washing the brush to see if it would get most of the extra shedding hairs out.. it seems to have helped a little.. i'm gonna give it a few more days!

I went today and they let me exchange my brush for Mac products, sooooooooooo awesome I told them that I wasn't satisfied and that I never keep the receipts because I am alway 100% happy...

just out of curiosity, why didn't you like the BM brush? i got the BM set not too long ago and my only complaint is that the kabuki brush feels a little too pokey sometimes. i love the soft focus face brush, though. i have had problems with MAC eyeshadows breaking apart easily and the clear top portion of the lid breaking off of my blush w/ just normal use.

does sephora take returns on used makeup?

i LOVE all the BE brushes, but hate the kabuki one. it's sooo pokey, and it sheds like crazy.. the MAC one is muuuch softer and i love using it.. i would definitely recommend it, since my shedding one was probably faulty.

today i was in sephora and the SA was trying out some new concealer on me.. i bought it, and she said if i decided i didn't like it, i could always bring it back. so i think that means yes for you yay!

Absolutely. If you order online they include a shipping label for the return and it is free.

did you guys buy your MACs at Nordstrom?? I buy all my cosmetics from Nordstrom's for no hassle returns. so convenient!

yeah, Nordstrom will take back ANYTHING...

P.S. I have the Everyday Minerals Premium Kabuki (it costs like $14) and it is softer than any other Kabuki I have tried including BE.
