What she meant to say is that the handles on your Monogram Canvas Speedy will 'patina' with use/time. This is normal for high-quality leather. Patina basically means that the handles will get darker with use/time. Your Monogram Speedy 30 is light now, but it WILL get darker in the future. If you take really good care of it, it'll turn into a honey color. If you're really sloppy with it, it'll get quite dark.

misstania, that is correct. the mono handles will change color over time. personally, i like it with a bit of color, but i don't like it when they get really dark

Yup - I hate patinated handles, so that's why I stuck with the Damier (I originally wanted an Azur, but then I concluded that it would look too weird once the patina set in)

Annessa and misstania thanks for the replies! i understand now! hehe!

hmmm so there's a way to take care of an lv purse so that the handles won't turn REALLY dark but just honey coloured? oh wow how do i do that? do i need to clean/condition the handles? also how does all the vachetta on 1 purse (handles, and the part that joins the handles and the purse...the triangular pieces) turn the same colour when most ppl tend to touch the handles the most? not sure if my question makes sense... :X

The dark handles occur because of dirt in your hands. To avoid getting the dark/dirty look, make sure your hands are clean before you use the purse, and condition/clean every week or so.

The vachetta of one purse isn't usually even throughout the bag. You have the right idea, the area that is touched the most will tend to be darker than the other parts of the bag. If you want to get an even patina throughout, suntan the bag for a couple hours to obtain a patina or wrap the handles with a scarf or something so that your hands arent really on the handles.

^ wow thanks for all the info! and man you sure know many techniques from sun tanning a bag to wrapping scarves around the handles!

this forum is so awesome because i don't have to feel weird about posting the odd questions that i have hee hee!

i like mello_yello_jen's idea with the tying the scarf... i've seen some people do it, and it looks nice.

what i tend to do often is carry my speedy with the crook of my arm. i'm usually wearing long sleeves anyway, so avoids skin contact.

i've seen some really dirdy vachetta handles, so i just try to be careful and really take care of my bags. if that happens to mine, i'd probably take it in and get the handles replaced.

it takes years even almost a decade to get really black so you should be fine

Also, in addition to what mello said...the obvious is DON'T USE YOUR BAG when it's raining/snowing
