I'm SO STUPID.

I pretty much got scammed the other day.

So here's how it happened. I was walking toward the library after getting out of my anatomy class, and this lady was standing on the bridge between where I was and the library. She was dressed all trendy-like, so I looked at her. We made eye contact as I approached her and she goes, "Do you go to a salon to get your hair done?" I knew she was trying to sell something to me, so I quickly told her no as I walked passed her. "How would you like to get 90% off..." I don't remember what she said verbatim, but I walked toward her again. I DONT KNOW WHY.

Anyway, she explained this "promotional package" that certain salons were participating in. This package offered 3 complimentary visits, a free $15 gift certificate toward a salon for a friend, and a 50% off members card that allows you to have 50% taken off for any service at one of the salons participating. It was $19.95 per month for a minimum of 5 months. SUCH BULLSHIT, right? "Complimentary"? "Free $15 gift certificate"

I asked her.. "So what is it that I'm paying for? A membership to these salons or something?" She goes, "Yeah!"

I almost got away with saying, "I'm sorry, but I've forgotten my wallet today," but I freaken looked in my bag and found it.

I fell for it. It seemed so enticing to me because lately I've been feeling kinda down about how my hair is so boring.

I signed the contract, and she has a carbon copy of my credit card.

I'm pretty sure she didn't take down my security code on the back, but my memory is kinda fuzzy. It all happened so fast.

I know its a way for them to get easy money, but I figure I can get my money's worth if I make these salon visits super often within the 5 months. And kinda "giving" hair cuts as birthday presents.. Haha.

Am I still in deep shit though? Because she has a carbon copy of my credit card?

Welcome to Pac Promos, Inc

So I DONT follow through with the promotion? I signed a contract and the woman took down my number..

If I put a hold on my card, will they come after me or something? hahaha.. =\

This happened to me once.
Well I didnt get scammed, but I just never used the thing I paid for

I hope that its a legit company and they dont steal your cc #

cancel your card.. NOW.

happened to friend of mine.. and her account was literally eaten alive by these people lol

just cancel it and get a new card.

doesnt really sound like a CC scam, but i don't know if you will be saving $ with this plan. you are paying at least $100 for 5 months of membership, then you will have to call them and cancel (they hope people forget to cancel so they will automatically take $20 each month) You say 3 complementary visits, but is that for an eyebrow wax or getting your hair cut/dyed. Lots of times these offers sound really good, but there are limitations so you aren't really saving $. Do you get to use the 50% off every time you go to one of the salons or is it just a one time thing? How much do these salons charge? Find out if this is something you are going to use and save money on -if not, cancel your CC or take it as a lesson.

"How to stop your monthly billing: If there are no back dues or a balance due, you may stop the billing on the monthly dues of $19.95 after the initial 5 months and cancel your membership by providing a writted notice of your request at least 30 days prior to your next billing date"

"If Customer notifies the financial institution in control of Customer's account to terminate this automatic billing request, such notification will not otherwise affect this agreement and Customer's obligations herin. Customer acknowleges that the origination of the automatic billing request and also Clearing House transactions to Customer's account must comply with the provisions of US law."

So.. I'm pretty much screwed?

Call your cc company and the company that you signed with immediately.

There should be a back-out period stated stated somewhere in micro-print on the contract. I believe it's mandatory to offer a 'cooling off' period on any contract you sign. But do it quickly as it may only be a couple days.

this happened numerous times when i was at long beach state... those people are everywhere. my motto, if it's too good to be true, it's not! i hope everything goes well for you.

i always blew them off and walked by and said "nope!"
I signed up for one of these too, I never ended up using it, but my CC hasn't been charged up or anything. I think it's a too good to be true thing, but not a CC scam...

No, it's bullshit.

If you don't want the membership, then call the company to cancel. If they give you trouble and don't "let" you cancel, call your credit card company, tell them you got railroaded, and have them reverse any current and future payments made to that company.

I found this thread right after I signed up with pac promos so I canceled my debit card. They just called and said that I need to give them a new card number or they will call the collection agency on me. Can they do that? It's not like I used any of their services! Did anything like this happen to you? I'm kinda worried. =/

Ugh. I fell for this too. And I don't know what to do now...

THERE IS A WAY FOR YOU LUCKY FEW

These people approached me recently too, and after agreeing I regretted it immediately.

It may say on the contract that from the moment you signed the contract that you must pay them for at least 5 months before cancelling, this isnt true if you havent let more than 72 hours go by. You're lucky if you live in CA...

California Law states that there is a 72 hour cooling off period, in which you can cancel such an agreement (this doesnt work for big purchases like cars for example), but it should work for purchases and transactions like this. Send pacpromos an email IMMEDIATELY and mention this law in your email. Form the email very officially and let them know this requires mandatory attention. They should respond ASAP, and if not dont be afraid to show when you sent them the e-mail and keep your receipt.

This company is hoping you never find out about the 72 hour window of "buyers remorse".

Go out and get em fellow denim friends!

Does anyone have a direct contact number for this company? I'm going on my 6th month I don't have any of my papers, I can't provide them with MY information, and I'm worried they'll just KEEP charging me, I don't even remember what the contract length was!!!!
are you new members serious or is this a joke
post #18 of 26
Yes, Pac Promos is a scam. I know because I used to work with this company.
Cancel your credit card. They can't do anything about it. They won't report you to collections. It won't affect your credit. They don't have a collections department.
I know that they intentionally ignore emails of people asking to cancel just to get more money out of you. There are some people who work there completely naive of what this company is capable of, and others who work there who know and don't give a shit, pretty much making them slimeballs.
CANCEL YOUR CARD NOW and tell your friends.
