And just for the sake of mentioning it, if that was double-breasted sportcoat or suit jacket, there is no unanimous rule for which buttons, if any, to leave undone - only, of course, that the jacket is not left open.
Your myth is correct, however, it applies to waistcoats/vests and not jackets.

Cam wore it correctly... at least in the "rules" of fashion. You're not supposed to button all of the buttons of a double-breasted jacket.

Does this apply to Pee coats too? What if it's bloody cold out?

Pee's coats are Everlast and feature a zipper instead of buttons.

What makes you say it's a myth? Has the source of that custom been disproven? And it applies to both waistcoats and jackets.

First of all, it's outerwear, so it's not subject to the "rule" you're talking about.

And again, there's no unanimity when it comes to buttoning double-breasted jackets.

EDIT: Here's Andy Gilchrist's take on the issue - I think he's a pretty good authority, but of course you don't have to think the same:

Perhaps myth was the wrong word, but I was pretty clear in saying you had it right, was I not?

No, I was asking in earnest if it was proven to have been false.

Do you honestly think leaving one button undone will make a difference?

If it's cold and really windy, maybe, but otherwise I don't think it would, especially considering that you would probably be wearing other layers underneath.

I think buttoning all the buttons would look too stuffy

Nope. I heard it from someone I know who is somewhat of a royal historian and a pretty darned good dresser in his own right.

No, it's a great jacket and you wore it well (no, it did not wear you). I'm not sure what some people have against some discourse about clothing topics not relating to BoO shirts and skintight jeans.

Amanda, is that a Foley & Corinna bag? Love it!
