Black shirt, silver tie? You sure about that one bro? I didn't neg, but it's a little monochromatic and black dress shirts are ugly IMO.

^i agree 100%. i love a black button up worn casually with jeans, but for dress pants or with a tie it just doesn't work. it even looks a bit dated.
yeah i didn't even own dress pants until yesterday when i bought them strictly because i had to for the class. most of my button ups are pretty casual and i had a hard time finding one that would work with the pants. most of them were too fitted. the black looked the best i guess.

thanks for the advice/criticism though guys. i don't dress up very often.

oh and i ended up not wearing the tie because i had a feeling no one else in the class was.

while we're at it. i had an issue with what my professor said about business dress.

he said your tie should cover your belt buckle, but i always thought it should come to the top of the buckle. and he said not to wear boots. opinions?
you're right about the tie placement. i guess it could go 1 cm (0.5 inch) lower. the prof is right about the shoes. boots aren't formal enough. the color of the shoe should also match that of your belt ( i think those are brown boots?). business attire should be conservative for the most part and what you wore seemed out of place.

If you want to go by the book, ditch the boots. I'm not sure on the tie length, but I could tell you a lot of other stuff.
if you want to be particular about it, your prof is right on both counts. but there is a lot of room for improvisation with tie lengths and widths. i will say that a tie as wide as the one in your pic should be longer though. and boots can work with a suit, but they need to be matched perfectly to the belt, polished, and slightly dressier than the ones you have on.

that said, for anything major like a job interview i would tend to go as much by traditional standards as possible.

i hear ya guys. ah fuck it, i'm too broke right now to buy business clothes. i don't really need them quite yet anyway.

i'm sure he didn't mind much. at least i didn't have hovering hems and square toes like most of the others.

Yeah I'm not sure how that trade is going to work out. Although they did alway seem to have trouble in the playoffs against guys like Duncan etc, so maybe he'll be the piece they need.

@Malcontreux I know I always look serious, but I'm taking a picture of myself with a timer, so I'm not really laughing that often, but I am a smiley person most of the time if that helps.

I picked up some jskidder inspired oxfords the other day. (no, not BoO, cause im a poor f'ing student)
Here is one, hope you don't mind the yellow, but I thought it worked better than blue with the 71j's.
