only problem is you just hope that when you wait in line in the morning they have your size cause they sell out fast and i hate camping the damn store, thats all

also i wear size S which actually helps me in this case cause most hip hop and streetwear peeps rather wear their BAPE gear loose, but i wear it slightly more fitted, so most of the time they have my size.

tee shirts arent expensive...like only 70 or 80 dollars.
I think the whole BAPE concept just escapes me... and maybe it has to do with the fact that I live in ohio

nope - it excapes me too. i don't think locaiton has anything to do with it. i just don't see why people pay half a grand for a stupid hat that probably didn't cost more than a dollar to make....or any other bape product either. it's not like they even look that good either. just my opinion tho.

exclusivity
maybe thats a good thing! it can be heavy on the wallet when you're interested in so many different fashion sub cultures.

like i mentioned, im just dabbling for fun in bape or streetwear as a whole, so the boys at superfutre or hyperbeast have more to say about this stuff of course.

design and pr aside, i think what makes BAPE so innovative is it almost purely sells "membership" or a sense of belonging. clothing has elevated through the years.

anytime up till the 1960s (belle epoque), clothing was purely functional except for the aristocrats.

then came post 1960s, WWI, WWII, and so on, and clothing started to be more about your style. clothes were more of a reflection of who you were or wanted to be. fashion was also more accessible.

then in the 1990s, clothing started to be about lifestyle. when you bought a Ralph Lauren polo shirt, you were buying into the lifestyle.

today, lifestyle has evolved into having a sense of belonging. you're buying something because you want to be part of an image, part of a movement, part of a cult. BAPE is one of the few brands that offers that and exploits this develpment in fashion.

well, I'm sure in the minds of most BAPE consumers (the ones not just following some "trend" per se), there is an actual rhyme and reason to why they are wearing this certain brand... be it a political statement, movement, or lifstyle this brand stands for...

Wax: damn... didn't think one word would ever explain something so well

but at the end of the day. fashion is just fashion, so like where whatever you can afford, be it Diesel jeans, Winston jewelries, or the next what-the-fuck

yep exclusivity vaguely sums it up, but i figured it was worth elaborating more on the type of exclusivity, because exclusiveness has always been an integral part of fashion in every point in history, for better or for worst.

yep thanks but by no means after writing that essay do i encourage ANYONE to go out and buy BAPE, cause it can be unneccesarily expensive, but the direction of fashion (or maybe even life in general) seems to be growing more towards finding where we belong, especially in an ultra transfused world like today.

Aipume, I'm interested to know more about the stores where they sell BAPE. How many are there, and are there always people waiting in line before they open? That's crazy. I've also heard there are rules about what you try on & whatnot. I guess it adds to the exclusivity. Also, how can BAPE's target audience even afford their clothing??

hahaha you just really succinctly put a point on what annoys me most about BAPE. It's supposed to be "street gear" but, living in NYC, I get to see the actual street/hip hop culture all the time. Bombing, breaking, and rapping were BORN HERE for gods sake. You know what the thug-types actually wear, the real ones? The rapper labels - sean jean, echo, akademiks, baby phat, stuff like that. BAPE I kinda feel like is for those who want to acheive that hip hop look but also show off that they're rich. Which kinda seems contradictory to me. I dunno, I could rock the BAPE stuff but I wouldn't be wearing evisus at the time LOL
