so.

how can we make the honestmall even better than ebay.

how can we make it

safer,
faster,
easier,
more authentic,
and less expensive

i would love your imput on this one.

I've been lucky so far, had nothign but grea experiences on HM, I do most of my buying there instead of sifting through ebay. Unless it's somethign really specific I want.
I think it already IS better, faster, more authentic, and less expensive (free!) than Ebay!

I agree with Sailornep

I think we have a nice little system going on if I do say so myself
post #5 of 34
i think its great as is. the only problem is that often people on here aren't willing to pay as much as you could probably get on ebay but there's nothing anyone can do about that.
the only beef i have is with some sellers. Like i was promised these jeans one time. And i was going to pay after i came back from work. I get back and their thread said they sold the jeans. They tell me sorry and say that they normally give the jeans to whoever asks for paypal addy first. But no where in their thread says that. Its like "how am i supposed to read your mind seriously wtf?" Espcually when they told me to take my time with the payment that they'll wait for me.
I was so freaking pissed.

other than that besides human error, the hm is fine

The best think about HM is NO FAKES Ebay makes me mad because you do your research and buy some "authentic" jeans and then when you get them they turn out to be fake and not the jeans from the auction at all!!!

I agree that people here are not willing to pay as much as on ebay....but that's cause we are all smart and don't drive up the bidding! Like all the newbies on ebay bidding within the first day of the auction
post #8 of 34
as far as people not paying as much, we are all here I think because we don't want to pay as much, at least for me. It is great if I am buying something, but when I am selling, I just have to suck it up

I also kinda like to think of all of us as 'friends' and are giving each other breaks because we like each other...maybe corny, but that is how I feel....

well we all know my problem with Texasplayer and the fact that he hasnt been banned yet has definitely halted my HM buying - I just dont find it safe anymore. Misrepresentation is a problem and HM/HF can do nothing to enforce ethical selling....

so bottom line:
it can never be safer
it can never be faster (since all selling is based on seller and buyer responses)
easier is based on each person's own perception
HM will always be more authentic
price of items will always vary but so far Ive never found a better deal on HM than on eBay - ive only found things I cant find on ebay.

Rhythmatic, you could have addressed this issue with me personally via PM, and are still free to do so, thanks.

I agree that HM is already faster, easier, and less expensive than ebay. As for safe, nothing is foolproof, and I think that HM is pretty darn good compared to ebay. I feel sad for the people who have been ripped off by dishonest ex-HFer's, but hopefully we can remedy that in the future
post #11 of 34
I think HM is great, its safer, etc...and the little problems its had before well everything has to have some quirks, but hopefully nothing more will happen, and we got a great mall mod, shes tough!!
I agree, it is perfect the way it is! I have bought about eight items since March....unless there is a way to halt my spending it is great!
i think everything is great too! the only thing i can suggest is maybe deleting the threads once an item is sold
post #14 of 34
to make it safer and more authentic: if a seller sells a fake they're banned from selling FOREVER.
(i don't think this has been a problem in the past but in the future as the Honestmall grows it might)

or moving them to a SOLD section so that sellers can use those for reference or if a sale falls through, but i do agree its annoying to sift through all of them when half of them have been sold
post #16 of 34
In my area I mark the items as SOLD in the title when they are sold to try to help.

the only bad thing is the low-ball offers. I agree that it is a community here and that sometimes you will accept an amount less that what you would get on eBay, but the one thing that annoys me the most is when you name your price with "make an offer", you get people who PM you saying "how about $50 shipped?"; even if you have set the price @ say $150.

I've also had someone PM: "Hey I doubt your item will sell for that price, so when your ready give me your Paypal and I will give you $75 shipped for these"....

Apart from that, the HM is great.
there should be a list of regular lowballers like in communist-scare times where we can mock, abuse and make disappear those who appear on that list. yay!
I already do like HM more than ebay. But because I am still inexperienced with determining between fakes and reals, I know I can go on here and trust the people who sell their jeans, bags, etc rather than going on ebay and not knowing what I will get. I have bought a pair of fakes before, I can tell you that it was NOT pretty.

I know sellers won't make as much money as selling it off on ebay, but I have to tell you that you I appreciate you selling here, and that you are great people.. which is another reason why I am here.

I like to get a good price, but that is distasteful....ugh!

that does suck...but the same thing can happen (and has happened to me) on ebay, especially if you use the "best offer" option...I always get tons of lowball offers, whether it's through the BO option or people just messaging. It's annoying, but at least you can turn them down!

my opinion on how to enhance the buying/viewing experience on HM is to maybe have this site host all the photos! so that way... all of the photos are guaranteed to show up on the thread since alot of time, the original picture host site that the seller is using may be down and photos aren't showing up or it is loading really slowwwwly etc...

ok sweet.

all these positive responses make me happy.

so i think i am hearing a couple of things.

1. we need to put sold in the titles...once an item is sold.
2. we need to be sure to ban people from the mall if they are being shady.
3. we need to maybe consider hosting the images ourselves. (this will greatly increase our hosting bill though...we will think about it though.)

so yea. thanks for all the imput!

One more idea Dave and everyone.... I would like to make it easier to search through the items... can we put a word in EVERY title like "For Sale" so that when we search in the search option, we can put in something like "True Religion 28 For Sale" so we can get all the jeans for sale at the time in our particular size. What do you think about that idea?
