well if you didn't tell them, then that means you left it up to them. i'm not on your side or their side, i'm looking at the situation as a bystander. i know what it feels like to have expensive jeans ruined. my diesels were like 200, which is pretty expensive to me, and i got them hemmed they got hemmed too short but then i'm not gonna blame them because i didn't wear heels at the time

unless the people that did it for you are kind enough to buy you a new pair

holy shit man! that sux, i would be irate if i saw that. seiously if i were to get home and see those, i wold drive back over there and demand a refund! taht is just absurd, and how did they charge you? the absolutely mutilated your jeans. yeah man like jjinz said these arent some cheap gap jeans that everyone has, wher eyou canbuy just about anywhere. wow i seriuosuly think you should set the place on fire if they dont refund you. jk just assert yourself, but not to the point where youre beign rude and damaging

I remember a few months ago my ex gf went in to get her new diesels hemmed to a shorter length. She told them that she wanted to "keep the original hem", they ended up cutting the original off (normal hemming) and kept the original piece for her

She got into an arguement with them cuz they said that it was NOT possible to do a tricky hemm, she ended up taking the jeans free of charge...

Good thing they kept the original piece cuz she went in to another taylor to have them sew it back up. It looked alright as long as you werent too up close.

But damn, sorry for your loss, I sorta know or at least seen how it feels

I don't think they'll refund you the amount of money you paid for the jeans ($530?), and technicallty they're not in the wrong, because you told them to take the jeans in on the butt part. You didn't say specifically how you wanted it, which I don't know if that would have made a difference. Because, to my knowledge when the butt part of the jeans get taken in they cut the butt stitching, and take the jeans in, sew them back, and then cut off the excessive material. Is there a different way to take the jeans in?
But I can only imagine how upset you are. If a pair of TRs got messed up like that I'd probably cry.
You can ask for a refund and at least see what they say. Sorry about your jeans.

but customer satisfaction guarenteed, and the rememebr the customer is always right. IF they were smart the would refund, because in that kind of business there are so many competitors, and they probbaly lose and gain customers through word of mouth. anyways let us know how it goes

They do alterations. They'd have to do a helluva lot of hems from his referrals to make up for 530$.

wow that sucks and really scares me off of altering any jeans. i always hold my breath and cross my fingers whenver i bring jeans to a tailor but luckily so far all i've had to do is hemming and fixing zippers.

There is no way any thinking individual could think that those jeans altered in that fashion look anywhere near to OK...If they could not alter the butt area without destroying the look of the jeans, they should have declined the alteration. These are not trousers that can be altered back seam, and it does not destroy the look of the garment. Holy crap they really do look bad, and I am sorry. I will be incredibly amazed if they refund you for the jeans, but I would still make as big a stink as possible, because those things are shot. Very sorry...

they ruined your jeans completely, and absolutely should have consulted if you were okay with them shredding and cutting.

They shouldn't have done it! They ruined really ruined it. I don't care what kind of jeans they were anyone would be ticked off. I hope you get at least some of yourmoney back because any one with a shredd of common sense wouldn't have done that.

The people did ruin his jeans, but they didn't do it "on prupose". But you can't expect to have your jeans taken in at the hips/butt/thighs and have them still remain perfect. Unless they take the jeans apart, and start all over as if they were making a pair of jeans.
The guy asked for the jeans to get taken in, which the tailors did. What was so wrong with that? If you tihnk of it in that aspect they didn't do anything wrong, they did what they were told. If you pair retail, or close to retail, or heck if you get any kind of designer jeans that you need to get taken in you need to explain exactly how you want them to alter your jeans, and/or bring in a pair of cheap jeans and have them do what you want on the expensive pair, to the cheaper pair. That way you'll know what it'll look like.
The only way I can think of the tailors taking the jeans in on the butt, and keeping the original stitching, is if they made some (visible) folds in the jeans on the butt, which would make the pockets closer together.
sonja_k, if you had to get a pair of jeans taken in on the butt how would you get it done? Or how would you tell them how to do it? Aside from actually shrinking the jeans. (which is what I would have tried)

These people should NOT HAVE TAKEN ON THIS ALTERATION! NO WAY could anyone think those jeans look anywhere close to normal now...They should not have done it!

I completly agree with you. While I would have been more carefull as to the directions I gave, no proper tailor in there right mind would have even attempted that because a good one would know it wouldnt turn out just by looking at them.

I have a fantastic tailor. I have even miss-measured the length one time when I asked to get my jeans Uero hemmed and when I brought them back to him claiming I would pay to get them re-hemmed ( due to my own stupidity) he did it for free.

I have also just recently changed my diet ( due to my bodybuilding) and all my pairs of jeans were a 32 waist. I am now at a 30. So when I first took my rare pairs to him to get the waist taken in ( and the back on 2 pairs) he refused to do it. He claimed even though he would do a great job they just wouldnt look right. So I ended up selling them.

The tailor should have told you they wouldnt do it. And I do belive if you are angry at them but dont go over the top ( ie swearing ect) they will feel sorry for you and probably give you a partial refund. I say partial because in all honesty, I dont think they will give you back the full amount. Try and hold your temper and get them to see it from your point of view. I used to yell and swear when I had to and even if they deserve it, it will make them dislike you instead of feel remoreseful and want to help you out.

Good luck. The only other thing I would do if they refuse to do anything for you is politely suggest that you could always file a claim in small claims court. The filing usually costs about $30 and the appearence would only be for 20 minutes. And considering the cost of the item it may be worth it. I have had to take someone to small claims court only once in my life thank god and the mere mention of court usually makes them at least try to bargain with you.

yea, i went to the tailor to get them in today and the lady straight up told me she can't do it.

she said i wouldn't be satisfied enough and she won't do an alteration unless it pleases her customers.

read through this thread - canuck, I'm so sorry what happened. These people shouldn't even be called 'tailors'. Even if you didn't tell them - are they blind or what?????? It's their bussiness and they should be able to do this without ruining the jeans. I'm not a tailor but when I look at these jeans I see that they look like s**t. Even my Mom would be able to tell and she is not into jeans ...
