What's the average inseam for women do you think?

I had this discussion with BF the other day. I think a 32 inch inseam is average for most women. He thinks a 30 inch inseam is average for women. I say that's way too short for the majority!! He thinks I'm being snotty because he thinks I'm poking fun at people with the shorter inseams (heck I'm not, it was just a statement!). What a stupid subject to get in tiff over huh? But it made me wonder what other people thought too.

Anyway, so what do you all think? Is 32 inseam average or 30 inseam average for women these days? What's you're inseam? For example, I need at least a 34 inch inseam, longer if I wear heels! Input please cause I want to tell him he's wrong!!

Well do you mean average inseam w/o shoes (or with flats) or with heels on?

On average, I'd say the average inseam for women is probably around a 32-33.

30" flats, 31-33" heels. i'm just under 5'3 and have a short torso. i think the avg height for women is 5'4 so a 30" might be more accurate.

I think 30, if the girls are wearing the jeans to the right length and not cuffing them, and aren't buying them long for heels. There are a lot of shorter girls in the world. And I'm sure there are more that need shorter than 30 to balance out the few that need really long inseams.

Hmmm...way true.

I'm talking if you wear just normal shoes, like I wear Danskos and tennis shoes a lot, but switch to flip flop in the summer.

dumb question but do you consider tennis shoes flats? Would I have the same inseam on a pair of jeans if I was wearing tennis shoes as I would if I was wearing flat sandals?

Yeah I think it's about the same. I always wear those retro sneakers they are pretty flat like flip flops...hardly any heel at all on either.

i am 5'5'' and need a 32 inch inseam. a 30 inch inseam is too short for me. i have some juicy couture pants that have a 30 inch inseam and i am thinking about getting rid of them b/c they are highwaters and look pretty silly on me imo

I'm 5'1" and whenever I buy jeans, they cost me extra
$20-25 to be hemmed (even if I wear heels, that's
not my case though, I still need alterations)!

A bargain price would not be bargain for me at all...

guys jeans come in many different inseams, so it sucks that womens jeans dont. short girls spend lots of money getting their jeans hemmed while tall girls cant buy certain jeans b/c they would be highwaters

I'm 5'3" and the shortest inseam I can get away with is 30.5, and that's too short for my taste. Ideal is 31-32.5", 33" if I wear heels.

I guess what the average woman wants in an inseam...so the jeans look perfect you know? Not too long but just right--so you can wear all styles of shoes perhaps?? Heels, flats, tennis shoes etc. I know there are variances and all as to the type of jeans we wear with certain shoes. Of course finding the PERFECT jean is hard to find! That's why we all have like 30 pairs! LOL

I feel though for the 30 and under inseams too (it seems like most designer denim has pretty long inseams these days). I know my sis-law has to get hers hemmed too--sucks big time! $18 for the original hems re-attached. You can't just wear them off the rack, but wait like 2-3 weeks to get them hemmed, which sucks! My Mom is petite as well and it's hard to find off the rack jeans too.

I can wear a 28" without heels but with heels I like 29.5". 30 and up tend to always drag on the ground for me. Its kind of annoying because sometimes when you get really long jeans hemmed it doesn't end up looking the same and it always costs more!

I'm 5'3 and my inseam is 31 inches. I think the majority of people I know have a 32'' inseam.

I'm 5'8" and need a 33 with flats and a 34 I'd say with heels. With flats I'm somehow between 32 and 33 I think.

I looked up US Dept of Health stats a while ago, and 5'4" is the average American woman's height. So a 32" inseam is probably 1-2" too long on the average woman unless she is wearing heels.

That's my biggest pet peeve against the fashion industry. If guys can buy pants/jeans by waist and inseam size, why can't woman? That's cos they KNOW we'll spend the money on alteration whereas most men won't. I swear it's a conspiracy.

I would say 31. It seems to me that on the thread where people listed height and inseam, most people were around the 30-31 inches for flats measurement.

now me...I think I'm growing, cause I measured my MNES inseam and it's 33.5 and they barely work for flats!
