Bootcut/Flare vs Straight leg

Thread Starter
Just wanted to hear some opinions on what you guys prefer out of bootcut/flare jeans or straight cuts? I personally like bootcut, particularly on slimmer jeans. But I don't mind straight leg too. It would be interesting to hear what you guys prefer, or where you would wear each one.

Oh and here's my small but versatile collection of Diesels. Ironically, most are straight leg! I guess there was no compromise for the washes...

- Tiiner 627 (love these! Nice all round)
- Zathan 772
- Cardiel 642 (Kinetik, I think I spotted you on this forum...? You sold these to me!)
- Levan 764 (on the way)

Cheers

I prefer bootcut aswell but straight doesn't matter. I love the Rabox cut and the Ravix the most.

I'm heavy into straight leg right now. The road to recovery from bootcut has been a long one. dating from my first love the fanker to all the clerby, ravix, backler, zaf, and zathans.

But bootcut is way overdone these days and the zathan is no doubt the hottest selling jean diesel has ever made. Seeing a dude in 772s and a western button down makes me want to throw in the towel.

Right now my perfect style is bathing ape shoes, a diesel farco or evisu jeans, and a bathing ape top or a few random pieces of diesel like my new windbreaker.

it varies for me. just depends on how i feel on any given day. with that said, i have four pairs of zathans, but my next pair of jeans will probably not be zathans. unless i find a wash that is totally sick that i can only find in that cut.

I prefer bootcut almost exclusively. I am skinny with small legs and I don't like the way that straight leg jeans make me look. I also don't like baggy jeans like Rumbums, or evisu's, etc. If all my jeans could fit like X-Rotucks...

there's nothing more depressing than seeing an awesome pair of jeans only to discover it's straight legged.

Bootcut all the way. I'm with kks, I've got skinny legs, and straight legged pants just emphasize that.

own 2 pairs of straight legged jeans. everything else is bootcut or flare. i'm skinny too, but my biggest beef with straight leg jeans is the way they fall over my shoe.

though i do plan on trying on some levans when i go to chicago next weekend.

yea i agree with that. from my experience straight leg jeans make you look like you have bigger feet and theyre simply less flattering. unless you're trying to pull off the 'geeky hipster' look, then i feel most fashion forward men should stick with bootcut or flare. i am a flare fanatic which is kinda pathetic i will goto great lengths to purchase any men's flared pants or jeans i can find granted if the color isnt hideous. even if a jean wash is only halfway decent, if it has a big enough flare it increases the jeans (and your) appearance significantly in my opinion. i say bring em back. if anyone knows of any good online e-tailers to buy flared pants or jeans from, post em. if you are looking for flared cords (or other retro clothing), try www.popboutique.co.uk - ive purchased from them before and theyre not bad.
ps: im not talking about baggy hippie flares. i'm referring to the slim-fitting, low waisted style that seems to be so impossible to come by these days.

i like them both, except i dont like when straight leg jeans LOOK tapered, tapered is sooo ugly, and it looks a little too punk for my tastes. gap makes straight legged jeans that i like the look of, and dickies are nice too.

otherwise straight legged or bootcut is the way to go...

diesel stores have full shipments of them. call them and have them send you a pair.

Thats not for all countries!

Zathan and Zaf 772 for example is sold out at all Dieselstores here in Germany.

ironically enough, diesel's slim straight leg jeans aren't especially well-suited to us slim folks at all...for example, a pair of rabox in a 28 waist has a 17 inch leg opening which just doesn't fit over any shoes other than perhaps a pair of chucks; the same cut in a 32 waist has a leg opening of a little over 18 inches, which is just fine. the only way to get straight leg cuts to look good is to hem them so they end up JUST above the shoe.

to get the same 18 inch hem in a pair of jeans in a 27 or 28 waist, you've definitely got aim for bootcuts like zathan or energie fletwood.

oh, and i haven't seen it in any stores around here (yet), and the washes it's apparently available in don't look that great, but i do like how the woriks cut fits based on the pictures at diesel.com...might be a good alternative to zathan.

I am into the same situation too, I've been wearing bootcut like Energie New Morrison and Ravix and when I got the Rabox and the Bumics, I feel awkward but now I'm getting used to it I guess.

I tried on the Zaf 832 and the flare is huge! I'm an average size guy and I think that the ones with too much flare makes my thighs look skinnier. I should have not ordered the Zaf 796's but oh well.

what's wrong with your thighs looking skinnier?? thats one of the best advantages to jeans with large flares. the other advantage being that they just look amazing.

I LOVE flared jeans. i acutally think that flared jeans make your loegs look more shapely. Especially if you work out and already have muscles to show. i feel they give me a more sweeped look to my thighs.
If you workout why not subtly show it off......
