out of the choices you've presented, i'd say go with the civic. but for maybe a few grand more, you can buy a used 2000-2002 bmw 3 series.

looks like all the asians are voting for the civic, we need some variety here. I also suggest the pontiac GTO. Oh yes, its a monster. 6.0 liter gas guzzler.

ok we're getting a little off track here...from Camry's/Honda's/Mazdas to Mercedes to Koenigsegg's

Mercedes SLK 350: price tag: $50,000 - $60,000

The above SLK mercedes is nice but I'd probably go with one and likely BOTH of the following vehicles, both of which are technically relatively affordable. But none of which are pratical daily drivers

Mercedes SLR Mclaren: price tag: $450,000 plus





Koenigsegg: price tag: $350,000 plus

Based not on experience, but word of mouth,
Foreign vehicles (and I use the term lightly now a days) Toyotas and
your Hondas are known for reliability and will stick around for years to come
even after ten to fifteen years post purchase while...

American branded vehicles, again thru word of mouth (i.e. forums
and mechanics) are definitely not as reliable.

But, this does not mean for a selected number produced that vice versa can't be true.

The Civic SI is not a bad specimen. I doubt you can acquire the
vehicle at less than $20,000. The best you can probably do at minimum
$24,500 plus or minus including all applicable
charges and fees. Don't forget to also factor in insurance and gas, and etc,
which may bring the price tag to a strong $27,000 plus or minus.

Yea, but this car will be partly a bday present, so my brother doesn't have much of a choice! Though he's begging me to not choose a certain color or a specific kind of wheels. But he's already saving money for a Mustang, which I highly doubt my parents will approve of anyway. I don't know, we'll see...I might even take this car to college if I'm still in the southern CA area, and of course if the college lets freshman bring cars.

Insurance is another issue you may consider at your age. I think the SI or any other sport coup is out of the question with this consideration

Totally slipped my mind--it's a birthday present. Happy early (or late wishes if I'm off).

Then there's definitely no need to consult him. Better yet "consult the
vehicle"...meaning test drive one if possible. Never quite heard that one
before, "colleges not letting freshman bring cars."-- interesting.

It's your birthday present, by all means make the final decision based
on your preference. You might also want to rank your preference in
order (e.g. looks, speed, reliability, gas mileage, etc).
