what is raw denim?

what is raw denim and why is it better than ordinary denim?
Raw denim isn't really "better" but different.

It is just denim that is saturated in the indigo dye and has not been washed yet, or has have a special distressing done to it.

Because of this, if you wear your jeans for a long time before washing them, the indigo will fade out in areas that have a lot of wear and you will get your own unique pair of faded jeans.

APC make a lot of nice selvedge raw jeans for a very reasonable price. Levi has the LVC collection, which along with Sugarcane (to name one brand), makes reproductions of older raw Levi jeans.

Also Earnest Sewn has some nice raw jeans.

in terms of the brands.. it depends on what youre looking for in terms of price, quality, fit, color, etc.

G-Star, Denimbirds (female), TR, Diesel (new Liv in 86c, again female)

and uhh... many many other brands that I have probably never heard of and they probably don't sell near me.

I even heard that GAP is making some raw jeans now (at least csirip says so).

The Earnest Sewn Cigarette Leg in the Patriot wash (53) isn't exactly raw, but one rinse (it's be washed a bit, so a little indigo has been lost, but it will act like raw denim for most part.)

It's on Revolve, and I personally have that wash in the Fulton (men's straight leg)

i've heard that you can drastically shrink the length or even the waist by at least 2 inches?

Unsanfordized raw denim (LVC and Sugarcanes) will shrink 10%, which is usually 1 or 2 inches in the waist, and 3 or 4 in length.

APC and such will usually shrink 2 inches in length, and will stretch out as you wear it in the waist, and shrink back when you wash it.

One rinse jeans (like those Earnest Sewns) won't shrink much, unless you stretch them while wearing.

list of jeans that can shrink in length for men?

this is great seeing as I have to always hem my jeans.
most of the raw ones will run longer than usual though to compensate for the shrinkage.

You can also after the first wash stretch them out longer damp if they shrink too much in length.

so a 32x30 would run longer than a regular 32x30, thus i can't make it to a 32x28?

If you're getting a LVC or Sugarcane, a 32x30 will be a 32x30 before you wash them, and then turn somewhere between a 30x27 and a 31x28. If you get Sugarcanes, go to historypreservation's website, and call them up. They'll get your exact size.

Any brand that is unsanfordized, which is usually Levi's Vintage Collection, or a brand that is designed to copy older Levis.
