is there a difference between the original levis 501 and the levis 501 xx .
they say somewhere shrink to fit , should i size up or down ??? do they stretch . anyone ever wore one .

i dont like the fact that 501 finish very fit at bottom , so i might order than 34 lenght and hemmed them to 30

what do you think ?

XX means shrink to fit. They'll shrink up anywhere from 1-3 inches in both length and waist.

Little nitpick:

Actually, the 501XX's ARE the original 501's. The XX designation was used to by Cone Mills, the company that made the denim for Levi since 1873. XX's were originally selvedge, and shrink to fit. Most Levi's now are XXX denim, they are made on a wider loom.

If the tag says 501XX, it means that they're either Shrink-to-fit, or they WERE shrink-to-fit, and were washed. If it's the latter (like a lot of LVC's, non-deadstock), then you better try out the jeans first, (add 1 to 2 inches to the waist, 3 to 4 in the inseam).

A little warning; the current 501XX's do not fit nor fade like the older 501's. The indigo will run a lot.
