Hi all, I could really use some help from any knowledgeable people out there - I am moving from the UK to the USA and I have a LOT of clothes to get over there. I have no idea how to get them there securely and for as little as possible.

 

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear from you.

I'd recommend taking as much with you as you can in your suitcases. I'd suggest shipping the rest (not sure which carriers you have but you'll likely have to pay custom fees in the US) Another suggestion, if possible, leave some things that are out of season with friends/family and then leave room in your suitcase next time you go for a visit and take it back with you to the US when you go.

When I moved to the US ages ago, I shipped my personal belongings with DHL. I think if you ship via post office by sea (not by air) it would be the cheapest but will take months to arrive. I did not pay any custom fees. I gave DHL a list of all the items and declare them as personal belongings.

Thanks for the advice - I do not mind if it takes months so long as I know they will arrive safely and get there eventually. I do plan to take 3 suitcases and fill my hand luggage to the max.

 

I thought there might be some company that specializes in this sort of thing - but maybe not.
