Smelly jeans, yeah, seriously...

Hey everyone,

 

I recently bought a pair of unused Thavar 880Gs. I like them a lot, and the 3D looks great, but they don't smell very good.

 

They NEED a wash to get rid of this smell, but I'm scared that I'll lose the 3D.

 

Question is: will I?

 

Oh and I'm James. I've been lurking on here for a year, starting with one pair of Soviet jeans. I now have over 20 pairs of Diesel, 2 pairs of Dior and 2 pairs of All Saints - thanks Denimblog! :)

It's a starch based coating in the jeans. That's what the smell is. It'll fade after a couple of wears. But if you wash them they'll not only lose their 3D but they'll also lose their shape.

Is it like that for every pair of 880G?

 

Never experienced it before. Still think it was the reason why this one woman was giving me these dirty looks on the train.

My 880gs smelled HORRIBLE when I first got them. The smell does fade, but my experience was closer to after a month with daily wear. I sprayed them down the first day I got them with febreeze because the smell was so overpowering. I don't think it made too much a difference as the source of the Oder is the denim and not food molecules or anything like that. I'd def def def not wash them tho. In addition to the 3d effects you'll also fuck up the jeans as they're raw denim. I've had mine for a year now and just so happen to have done my second tub wash this morning!

I vote to febreeze them inside and out after every wear. DO NOT WASH THEM! I did this to my 8X2's and ruined the pre stacking. It's horrible and everytime I put them on I hang my head down low.
