How to track shipment from UK to USA?

I bought diesel jeans from UK using ebay first time. Thay gave me a tracking number (Royal Mail).

 

When I tried on Royal Mail website, the message is "Your item has been passed to the overseas postal service for delivery in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".

 

Now does it mean they handed it to USPS for delivery? How do I know now where the package is (does it held at customs? or Is it on the way for delivery and cleared the customs?). Where and when do I have to pay customs? How much the customs will be for a $200 and $300 items ? How do they assess customs? Is there a minimum amount for which there will be no customs?

 

Anyone with experience, please post how the process works?

From 5-7 packages I've sent to US, my experience is that it takes 2-3 days to arrive in US. Then it's held up to 10 days at customs.
And as far as I know you don't have to pay any customs fees in US, unlike us paying up to 40% taxes+customs fees.

I've received most (if not all) of my packages from Europe or the UK within 7 business days.  I live in California for reference.

Seems that it handed to USPS for delivery.

 

On USPS website, for the same tracking number, the current message is "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment".

 

The delivery item is diesel jeans pant. For $310 worth, how much the customs charge will be? Do I have to pay the customs fee at post office?

We don't pay customs fees in the U.S.  You won't owe anything.

I received the item in six days, didn't pay any customs. Somewhat surprised.

 

I read on some websites, saying there can be customs fee after certain amount, which we need to pay at the post office before getting the package. Do you know any such limit?

Nah, I've never heard of that.  There may be importing taxes on certain items, but I know clothing/shoes isn't one of them.
