Thavar 886B 29X32
I really wanted these ever since the first fit pics started hitting DB and I was still just in spectator-only-uber-stalker-mode... after admiring y'alls fit pics and eyeing them up in store. Several times. I finally pulled the trigger. I had missed out on my size at the Zappos and Amazon sales and almost gave up. Though I was aware of Diesel's tendency to not mark down Italian washes until absolutely necessary, I had my fingers crossed for these to go on sale for the Friends and Family event. Alas, to no avail again. Then, whilst browsing SSense's site, I stumbled upon a full stock of these in all sizes at a decent discount! Grab em while you can everybody!
Anyhow, just got em today and these are photos and impressions from the first wear. All pictures are taken with my phone, so quality isn't the greatest but I was anxious to show you some of the details! The reddish tinge in some of the pics are from the sun setting through my living room window. The above pictures are much closer to the true color of this wash.
These are really beautiful. They truly possess that individual nature of the 'great' Diesel washes that we all love so much. There are a ton of details and really nice touches. They are a lighter grey denim with dark staining (streaks that seem to have been made by rubbing charcoal on the stacked up jeans) and medium abrasion on the thighs. The knees are clean, as in, not torn or worn down. The 3-D treatment on these is just as good as the 888P (which I thought was a little better than on the 8X2's). The pre-stacking is really nice at the ankle and at the 'crotch explosion' as I lovingly call it. The kicker is that the creasing is WAY accented by the dark streaks in the wash. This is very cool. I imagine this means that with continued wear, more natural creasing will start to take over what is baked in during production, while still maintaining the 'look' perfectly.
Quick note, these don't have any real liquid stains. No paint, no oil, etc. Just so you know
Also, the copper hammered rivets might be my favorite touch along with the marigold stitching. Those two details alone lend much welcome versatility to this pair of grey jeans. I wouldn't be afraid to rock these with some brown shoes.
I got these in the same size as my 8X2's and 888P's, all Thavar, all 29X32. The fit in the waist is somewhere between the 888P and 8X2 but leaning more towards an (ever so) slightly tighter 8X2. The thighs all feel identical. Length is in between the 8X2 and 888P as well but this time, they are closer to the length of the 888P. Slightly longer. They feel quite similar to the 8X2's in terms of denim, definitely not as thick as the 888P's but not by much. As they are 100% cotton, I expect them to stretch about an inch in the waist and loosen up a touch in the thighs. Stick to your regular size, no surprises here.
Verdict: 5/5 Many of us here already regard the 886B as the best grey jeans on the market. Throw me in that camp. I am a believer. For approximately $230 from SSense, I feel like I robbed someone. This is a remarkably special wash that every Diesel fan needs to own. I was not a grey-jeans kinda guy. I know some of you out there aren't either. It's okay, trust me on this one. Just snag a pair. You'll be shopping for stuff you've never considered before, just to go with them. They inspire you to keep wearing them. People will be wearing and talking about the 886B for a really long time. Seriously. Go get a pair. What? You already have a pair? Grab another!
