Hi Denim Blog Readers! Jenny May here from The Swede Records.
One of my favorite parts of the award season is of course, the fashion. We all just saw the refined glam at the Golden Globe Awards but the Grammy red carpet is a show in and of itself full of music's hottest stars with expected craziness and over-the-top fashion. Despite Whitney Houston's shocking and tragic death a day earlier, the show must go on and it did with an opening prayer in her name, a heartfelt tribute sung by Jennifer Hudson, and several somber references to the late Whitney throughout the night.
Compared to last year, I thought the fashion was a little on the tame side (aside from Nicki Manaj's bizarre cardinal outfit-so Gaga of her). Here were some of my favorite looks:
1. Adele - She knocked it out of the park in this stunning Georgio Armani gown looking healthy, happy, and sparkled her entire way down the red carpet. Welcome back Adele!
2. Carrie Underwood - The ever classy and gorgeous country star wore a Gomez Gracia long sleeve scene-stealing sparkler paired with a simple clutch. This girl can do no wrong.
3. Rihanna - My favorite of the night. From head to toe she was flawless in this plunging Armani dress. With the hair, make-up, and killer bod-her fierce confidence really shined through.
4. Corinne Bailey Rae - Corrine rocked this on-trend Christian Siriano dress with a full flouncy skirt and unique updo. Her shoes up close were pretty fierce as well, definitely one of the most notable red carpet looks of the night.
1. Katie Perry - Making her first major awards show appearance since announcing her divorce, Katy wore a princess-inspired gown by Ellie Saab. She opted to go blue from head to to toe but somehow pulled it off.
2. Taylor Swift - In her usual elegant manner, Taylor shined in a Zuhair Murad gown, another example of a gorgeous young singer who knows how to dress!
3. Jessie J - Bringing some serious shine to the Grammy's, Jessie donned a metallic disco ball-like creation by Julien Macdonald. Love it or hate it, this dress was definitely one to remember.
4. Kelly Osbourne - Though not a fan of the purple hair, Kelly looked gracious in a one shouldered silver sequin gown by Tony Ward. Needless to say, being on E's Fashion Police has done wonders for her.
My least favorite looks of the night:
1. Nicki Manaj - Did Versace really put their name on this red head-to-toe drape disaster? I have no words. Her Grammy performance was pretty disgusting too. Next.
2. Robyn - I love the Swedes, they can do no wrong...until now. Robyn's mullet styled skirt with the awful platforms make me think she was drunk when she got dressed.
3. Fergie - Fergalicious definition no make them boys go loco in this Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown. I couldn't stop staring at the black granny panties peeking through. Disappointing.
4. Snookie - Why? What the hell was she doing there?
What did you all think? Did you like the show? Who was your favorite/least favorite dressed of the night?
