Confused....

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I would like to buy my first pair of raw denim jeans, but I have a few questions to ask first. I want my jeans to stay exactly as they are, no fading, creasing or anything. I wanna look at them in 6 months time and see that they're as dark and as glossy as they are now (I think they have some sort of coating.) Yeah I know it's gonna be discoloured the slightest bit but I mean I don't want them to look like any old regular jeans you see people wearing, I want the denim to stay raw. Is there any way I can do this? I want some G-Stars but please feel free to recommend any others :) Btw I got another question not related to dry denim but jeans in general, I thought it would be best to ask it in this thread. Do all 'arc leg' and 'banana' jeans have that almost horizontal stitch half way down the leg coming from the inside? I've seen a couple of ones like this (my own Jack&Jones ones and some G-Stars and I thought this is how the 'arc' effect is achieved) I don't really like it though tbh looks weird. I have fairly straight legs so will wearing arc leg jeans actually make any difference or am I just paying for the name? Here are the jeans I plan to buy

Sorry people here always have something smart and unhelpful to say. If you want a pair of dry/raw denim that is not going to fade at all then what you want is not dry/raw denim at all. What you want is a pair of jeans that has the look but is prewashed. Your best bet is to get Diesel Viker 88Z - This looks almost exactly like raw denim except that it wont fade away on you like raw denim will. Here is a link to it on Nordstroms website: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/diesel-viker-straight-leg-jeans-88z-wash/3014313?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=diesel%28r%29_%27viker%27_straight_leg_jeans_%2888z_wash%29:250815&cm_pla=bottoms:men:pant&cm_ven=Froogle&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=7783EA56-6C83-DE11-B712-001422107090

Let me know what you end up getting and be sure to post fit pics!

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at Diesel's 88Z wash and it looks quite good, I found the 'Krooley' fit which I believe is slim, but I still prefer the G-Stars.Is there no way (apart from not wearing them, captain obvious -.- ) that I could keep them as they are? Would washing them straight away preserve the colour? I will still keep the Diesels in mind just in case I don't get the G-Stars though. What colour is the reverse of raw denim jeans supposed to be? Because usually the reverse of denim is a lot lighter, pretty much almost white. But on these G-Stars, it isn't, it is all a solid mid blue which makes me think they might be coated? If they are coated, does that mean the colour will stay for longer? And I know this is a stupid question, now, here, but are they even raw denim or just really heavily dyed then coated?

Look at the reverse of the denim where they have been turned up.

I have a huge collection of which none are G-Star so I would not be qualified to answer your questions about them. Maybe Marc can and maybe Cander49 - Not really sure if they can but its worth a try.

OK thanks I might ask them. Do you think the people in the shop would have much knowledge of this or not? Thanks for the help though :)

If you don't want it to fade buy a pair of jeans from G-star with the wash called "Brooklyn Raw". but I'm not 100% sure if they're raw or not, I think the colour is raw but its not actually raw denim? Some brands do this; they basically wash their jeans in a raw lookalike colour, but the jeans don't fade or have raw denim characteristics. Also most g-star jeans don't fade well so it doesn't really matter anyway, heres proof:

This is the G-star RAW Listing 3301 Classic Raw jeans; a slim straight leg jean, raw starched denim, raw listing red selvedge denim, 60% organic cotton, 14 1/2 Oz denim

These jeans started off life looking like:

These jeans are not mine but they've been worn for 14 months, washed 2 times, worn 4 days a week, and worn by a house renovator. It's faded but its not a lot for 14 months.

I own a couple G-star jeans but they're prewashed. The arc jeans are supposed to come inside of the inseam to make a "3d" effect look. I've tried it and to be honest, I don't really like it... I'm more of a traditional jean wearer with the normal inseam, but some people like it and I've seen some people wear it around the city and it looks fantastic. The one thing that annoys me about the arc jeans are the big loose fat thighs (I suppose it's necessary to create the G-star typical "tapered" effect). If you buy the arc jeans, get an inseam longer than your current inseam length, so if you are 32x32, get a 32x34 because you need the extra length for the inseam to create this "g-star gimmick".. "the 3d effect". Love these g-star jeans:

Thank you so much the exact answer I needed! The 'Brooklyn Raw' G-Stars look great, but I can't find any arc loose tapered in that wash anywhere :( Could you point me in the right direction, and once again thanks for the help :)

I have never even tried on a pair of G-Star... How did my name come up? haha.

Note: Head down to your nearest G-star store and ask them about the characteristics of the washes. Brace Raw, Cable Worn In, 3D raw, Brooklyn Raw, Kruce Denim Spark Denim and Custom Raw. They should be able to help you out.

Ebay - These jeans are the one above (14 months, 2 wash, worn 4 days a week)

G-star jeans - You should go to a G-star store to ask them about which jeans fade or not. I'm not 100% sure whether Brace Denim Raw or Brooklyn Denim Raw is the fading one.

http://www.tobi.com/product/35896-g-star-morris-tapered-slim-leg-jeans-in-raw-worn-in?color_id=44606 - These jeans are a dark wash, they're not raw. But they have fades that you'd normally expect after a month of wearing.

Lastly:

Jail Loose Tapered in Brooklyn Raw (Arc jeans). I was thinking of purchasing this back when they had it in store. This sold for $250 AUD in the G-star Concept store, found it on ebay for $140 AUD ($150 USD). I prefer this style other than the compared Arc jeans, but its up to you. The white stitching at the back makes it look different and is great with black or white shoes.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm in the UK. Do you know how they are sized as in do they run big or small because my waist is about 28-29 so I might be able to squeeze into the 27s, but I'm still growing so if they're too tight it wouldn't be worth getting as I'd grow out of them soon. Are they all sized the same? If so, I could go in to a shop, try on the closest one to those and get an idea of the sizing.

As for the other ones, thanks for the suggestion but they're not really my style, plus I wear high tops most of the time so the white bit wouldn't be visible anyway. Thanks for the advice though :D

Heres a size 28. They are sized like any other jeans. Pretty sure they won't grow in size like most raw denim (vanity sized). The thing with the Arc jeans are they have massive glutes/thighs. They'd be perfect for someone who squats all day at the gym.

Haha yeah I know I have a pair of Jack & Jones Stan Nico Twist and they're pretty much the same cut as G-Star's 'Arc Tapered' line. I don't love it but it isn't too much of a problem with me as I could be classes as 'mainstream youth' so I just follow what everyone else wears, haters gon' hate. Thanks for the link, ill check it out :)

Well in the 'colour' it does say 'Raw' but you know more than I do. I'll probably get them as Asos have free delivery and returns, how would I be able to tell if they're raw or not? Because this whole thing is really confusing me (as the title suggests.) What characteristics do I look out for to determine if they're raw or not? That would help a lot. Thanks for all the help guys really appreciate it

Ok I ordered both the Rotor Straight Jeans and the Blue Brace Arc Loose Tapered Jeans. I think we have established the 'Blue Brace' aren't raw, but when I receive the Straight Jeans which say '3D Raw' as the colour, what do I have to look out for to see if they are raw or not?

3D raw isn't raw. Its a colour by G-star. Can I ask why you want raw jeans that don't fade? Kinda defeats the purpose of buying raw jeans. I went into a G-star store the other day and asked them whether 3D Raw is actually Raw denim and they just pointed at the tag saying its Raw (clueless workers), but it isn't raw. You can feel it by the fabric. Raw jeans are tough and very stiff, at first they look like a sheet of metal when laid flat, or other words think of it as a plain blue canvas. Over time the canvas changes due to fading and abrasion, and when you wash it the jeans changes colour depending on your wearing style.

If your like me and you sit on your ass all day and go to college, your jeans won't fade as fast as someone who exercises or rides their bike with their raw denim.

I don't specifically want them to be raw jeans, just the deep colour of raw jeans (which the G-Star 3D Raw happen to be) I'm only 15 so I can't have loads of jeans. I have a pair of mid/light wash jeans and I thought it would be good to have some really dark/nearly black ones too. I'm really fussy about my clothes and I really liked the look of raw denim, but it obviously fades so I wanted some jeans that have the same look as raw denim but stay the same colour. I just love that deep, rich indigo/blue colour. Anyway I ordered both of these jeans and hopefully they should arrive tomorrow and from what everyone has said I'm pretty sure none of them are raw :D So we'll see, here are the jeans, on the first ones look at the up close pictures, the colour and texture just looks fabulous.

Thanks, I really appreciate all of your support and advice icon_biggrin.gif hopefully the jeans will arrive tomorrow and I'll have a good look at them, try them on for a while and make a decision. I'll also upload fit pics too icon_smile.gif anyone got any requests?

Yeah sure, upload some pictures. Damn 15 years old and already buying g-star jeans, I'm 19 and I can only afford 1 pair.

Pretty sure this is also a raw colour by G-star, I've seen this in the shop and wore them; they're heavy, crinkled (feels like someone forgot to iron it for 1 year) and have some blue streaks.

Yeah I think those ones are actually raw, whereas the ones I got are like coated/treated denim which gives it a raw look. For some reason they didn't ship the two jeans together so I have to wait till monday for the other ones. I'll put fit pictures up when Both of them arrive and i have time. I have a coulpe of exams next week so the pics may have to wait a few days.

You should select a garment which is made from a coated fabric. You can easily understand that it is coated or not when you touch . As you said the color will stay more longer and It will not fade like the normal garments. You should take care for the washing instructions as well .
