The Director of Design partners closely with Production, R&D and other Design related divisions as well as managing a small team so bring your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish multiple departmental goals. While resumes are necessary, a portfolio is required to be considered for this position.


WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Actively manage the design and launch of product line from inception to completion
• Ensure all corporate design calendar deadlines are met
• Plan the line according to SKU plans, Sales needs and trends
• Give design direction to the design team
• Regularly review concept and design sketches with designers
• Use trend intelligence and possesses a thorough understanding of current and historical business to design and execute desired vision
• Maintain a strong knowledge of denim market trends and competition
• Lead the research and development of seasonal trends
• Assist in the development of fabrics and review approve bulk fabric headers
• Style and shoot the line for in-house look books
• Manage all technical aspects of the design process
• Understand and take an active role in the production process
• Possess extensive knowledge of denim garment construction and technical specs
• Takes an active role in fit sessions and product line reviews ensuring timely release of patterns
• Collaborate with Marketing on development of new packaging, brand/label and trim needs
• Joins forces with technical design team to establish block library
• Creates original hand sketches of style groups based on concept/direction from Creative Director
• Ensures original vision and fit expectations are maintained
• Develop and maintain good relationships with overseas vendors
 

SKILLS YOU’LL NEED

• Degree in fashion design, BFA preferred
• 10 years of direct design and 4-5 years of team management experience in a given category
• Thorough knowledge of the premium denim market, trends, fit, development and washes
• Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, color ways, sewing techniques, graphics, trim and technical knowledge of fabric construction for denim category
• Strong color/print sense
• Must have experience in freehand and flat design sketching
• Microsoft/MAC proficient, preferred knowledge of Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, CAD
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy
• Ability to analyze work load and plan accordingly
• Exceptional follow-up skills
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally when required
