Bought 2 pairs of SFAM at Nordstroms, 1 fake?

Hi,

I bought two pairs of Seven jeans at Nordstroms yesterday. I love them both. But now after finding this site when I looked at one of the tags it seemed different. Now, they both are a slightly different feel although both the same Bootcut syle. When I asked the lady about the difference she explained about the numbers on the tag representing the batches they came from. So, the batch from April 2004 (labeled 404) was strechier and was 98% cotton 2% lycra. This explains the strechier feel. The other pair came from the September batch (409) and this is 98% cotton 2% polyurethane. This is why it is a bit stiffer. Now comes the question, the 404 batch has the goldish cloth seven tag on the inside with the printed numbers and looks just like all the authentic pictures. But the inside tag on the 904 batch has the small cloth "7 for all mankind" underneath but then a larger white label over the small cloth label and underneath the size label. I have never seen this white label on any of the pictures on your website. This white label has printed on it the style, cut, what it is made of, and says see care on reverse. Underneath this is the cloth "7 for all mankind" but it is the small underneath tag and not the larger one with the printed numbers. Both pairs do have identical stickers above with the style, color, cut, lot ref, and size and both have the zeros with the slash through it. I would assume they are both real. But why the different tag on the September batch? Do you think this might be a fake? Are the newer ones coming out with the white tag on top?? Sorry for all the questions but I thank you so much for your input.

Umm... you said a lot of stuff I didn't understand in your post, and your ongoing rambling sort of made me tune out... sorry, lol.

Anyway, I'm assuming they are both real, considering you bought them from Nordstorms, but... if you want to clarify, try posting a picture. I got really confused trying to decifer your descriptions of the tags, lol sorry. Wish I could be more help, but I don't really know what you're saying with the "white tag".

Sorry for the confusion... I was just trying to explain but I guess I went a little overboard !!

The difference on the second pair of jeans is that the larger tag underneath the size is white and not the gold material that you show pictures of here on the website with the printed (not stiched) in numbers. The white label is more of a waxy label than a thick cloth label. The jeans do however have the smaller "7" gold cloth label underneath the white one.

Hope that makes it a bit more clear.

Thanks to everyone trying to help!

Oh, no problem! Lol, I've seen many tags like this in high-end department stores. The Macys and Lord & Taylors here in Burlington both have 7s and some have the white waxy tag. Nothing to worry about. Most likely if you bought the jeans in a store, and they aren't blatantly fake that someone else returned, they should be authentic.

Would you mind posting how to determine when the batch was manufactured? That is very interesting. Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I feel so much better now. They had a whole bunch of them so they must be real.

About how to tell the batch... wish I could send a picture of the tag but they did not return them to me after they altered them! But on the actual Nordstrom tag with the scan bar code and price, there are a bunch of other numbers above. On the jeans I was looking at (the Bootcut), I noticed that on one tag the number said 404 and on the other the number said 409. So, I asked because I said are these two different types of the jeans. Then the woman helping me said that 404 meant April of 2004 and 409 meant September of 2004. So, they are two different batches. And in fact the older April one has 2% lycra and the newer September batch has 2% polyurethane. The lycra is strechier and gives up to 1 size extra while the polyurethane is stiffer and only gives maybe 1/2 a size. I'm glad I asked about that! It was very interesting and I was wondering why they both felt different on. I got one of each though and I am very happy with them !

Thanks again for the help!

Yes the new 7s coming out have the white tags....my local Nordstroms and Bloomingdales both had these. Also, I friend I have works at a little boutique that carries 7s and she verified this also.

I've never seen a Nordstorms before in my life. I didn't even know the store existed/what it was until I bought from them online... and I've been to a good amount of shopping centers... Cambridge side galleria, Burlington Mall, and the big mall in DC. I don't even think they have that store on Newbury st. in Boston... and that's supposed to be the most high-end st. in MA. This reply doesn't really do with anything, but I thought I'd put that out there.

Hi!

Just to make one thing clear - not every new Seven has this white tag. I've seen older pairs from 2002 or 2003 which also had these white lables. Seven uses these once in a while, and I have no idea why. But I can say that every pair I've seen so far with such a white lable was authentic. Those fake manufacturers probably don't know such white lables exist, too ... LOL

Best regards, Bianca

?

Like Nordstroms would even risk selling fakes in the first place.

Nordstorms wouldn't purposely sell fakes, you are right, but what stops a customer from buying an authentic pair from Nordstorms, and going back to return a fake they got from ebay? Many people are scamming stores like this to get authentic jeans, and you might just be the sucker who goes and buys the returned fakes.

confirm

hello all! yes, as a buyer and seller of seven jeans, I too can vouche that some of the older and some of the newer jeans have that white tag... all on authentic 7 for all mankind jeans. not sure why. something else i noticed recently... the mia style jeans in the niagra wash have a different "7" logo on the backside of the waistband...while the mia style in the liverpool wash has the classic logo... again, all authentic. ~marie

Polyurethane and Lycra are the exact same thing. If the label says Lycra that means that the mill where the denim was woven paid the DuPont company a royalty to use the term. DuPont invented "Lycra" from blended polyurethane fibers. The advantage to using the name lycra is that it's more recognized then the generic term.
Seven has strict standards for denim quality but it wouldn't be reasonable to assume it all comes from the same mill.

Hi Marie!

Yes, I can confirm that. When I received my Mia jeans in the Niagra Wash I was so shocked when I saw that tiny stitched "7" logo ... Then I didn't know such logos existed at all, and I was so disturbed I cut the threads loose! *AAARGH* A few days later I learned this is the way they're supposed to look like. Stupid me should have waited instead of grabbing my scissors ... Oh well, now I have a pair of Mias without a logo on the inner waist band!

Best regards, Bianca

Thanks everyone for all the posts!

And it's interesting to know that Polyurethane and Lycra are the exact same thing. It's funny then that the jeans that say Lycra are way more softer and strechier than the jeans that say Polyurethane. I wonder why the difference in feel?

Glad to know that both some old and new "Sevens" have the white tag though.

Thanks!
