Also holding down control and using the mouse wheel

I dont think it needs changing, i like the simple look of how it is right now, if it gets changed again i probably wont like it and it takes ages for others to get used to it, why change something that doesnt need changing? Its fine the way it is, just fix the glitches on the site instead of messing around with the design.

i think we're proposing fairly minor changes that are more of a polish thing, not a complete overhaul ala sufu 4.

dave's been in a bit of a listening mood lately, so just seeing if we can give him a little push to get some more stuff done around here we've been thinkin about while the time is right.

^I do quite a bit of graphic design work myself, and imo that's more amateurish and worse looking than what we have now. Gradients =/= better.

^Yes, I am sure you're a very established graphic designer.

Anyway, I'd love to see what mock up you could slap together in a few minutes.

as long as it looks nothing like the new sufu i'll be happy

I had no idea what that site was until this thread, and holy shit. That had to be the most confusing navigation system in the world!

My Dell tower pc doesn't have a trackpad.

As for a facelift, remove the useless area below the signature, that says "PM, WWW" You can already access that stuff when you press the username of the posters. With that, you can also remove the little "Signature" tag, since it will be a lot easier to tell that it's a signature at the bottom...Or at least at something like _____

Also, can the status icon for "invincible" be changed to something more detailed? It looks ugly compared tot he offline and online one, like it's all pixely and stuff...

Also, the "Posting Rules" at the bottom should have a hide option or something. I am pretty sure 100% of the people here are aware of how a vBulletin board works.

I hate trackpads, actually... Just from a usability perspective I much prefer mice.

I've had stuff in print, but that's not the point. The point is, there's no need for a mockup because it looks fine as is. The site is easy to navigate and the background behind the logo is fine. Making the banner humongous and adding a gradient while making the navigation on the right more confusing will not make it better.

hey did anybody notice that the banner gradient/banding is fixed now?
i love this.

please realize a couple things.

- it is expensive. we have paid about $450 this month to programmers to make very minor tweaks to stuff. they are hard to even see.

- i love good design. and i really appreciate that you guys do too. we want to continue to improve and "crispen up" the site a great deal. but we gotta wait on the money for a bit.

so yea, keep the ideas coming. and please open up photoshop and work on some graphics yourself and post them. props to Kile for doing this!

does anybody actually use the "ebay negatives" link at the top? removing that would clean things up a bit up there imo
post #40 of 46
I agree I myself rarely use it. Maybe we can make it sticky and put in the Drama section?

^this.

all i see is a gradient that ends abruptly at a strange point, which should also be flipped 180 degrees. if that makes any sense.

isn't it supposed to be like that?
probably. aesthetically though, it just looks off. it annoys me.

My quick mock up has the banner shorter from top to bottom and the exact same from left to right (not made humongous). My mock up also, does not include any additional gradient. I merely took the current grey to black gradient and changed it to grey to white.

But nice try. Thanks for the pro designer critique. Good eye!

dopamine, i douubt you're much of a graphic designer if you think the banner looks just fine as is- maybe from a "i don't care" standpoint, but from a design standpoint it could certainly be improved, and kile's mockup was a big improvement imo. gives the top of a page a much more touched-up look.

i don't see how the different navigation button style if confusing- it's equally as clear and could be made even more clear with a subtle glow-on-hover effect too probably.

i'm sure kile could produce 3 or 4 more mockups with different navigation buttons, different banner designs, etc as well, and at least one would stick out as the sickest.

In general though, the banner ads mess up the design for me lol I saw Dave plus my suggestion of "no ads for free if you've been hear a year and originally paid to join" but didn't offer a comment on its cost-viability...
