It should have caught on the first time around, but no one wanted a President that wanted Americans to conserve. We wanted "Morning in America" instead, and we got three decades of garbage for our efforts.

^^^It did. People recycled their cans, drove clown cars and conserved electricity. Then people slowly start using more, driving bigger cars, etc.
It will most likely happen again. Not to mention the population shows NO signs of slowing down.

p.s. ...People conserved during WW2 as well. It was for the "war effort" , giving up things they didn't want to give up. Raising chickens, growing gardens, etc. Then the 50's..advent of the dreadful TV dinner and gas sucking cars. Then the 70's as I mentioned with tiny cars, organic food and co-ops and the like.

In the 80's Patagonia clothing company was considered wacko for recycling plastic to make their fleece. They did it anyway.

There's nothing new under the sun.

I do like reading the posts.

clearly, everyone who did not vote for jimmy carter went to the voting booth, smirked, said "fuck earth!" and checked the box for Reagan.

it had nothing to do with jimmy carter being a terrible president or anything

^^^^I was too young to vote in 1977, but Carter kinda sucked. I was there. But to his credit he is a really fine ex- president. He has done so much post presidency with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center.

^agreed he was one of the worst president's in history but his post presidency actions have been good works indeed.. Habitat is a shining example
