^^^It did. People recycled their cans, drove clown cars and conserved electricity. Then people slowly start using more, driving bigger cars,etc.
It will most likely happen again. Not to mention the population shows NO signs of slowing down.
p.s. ...People conserved during WW2 as well. It was for the "war effort" , giving up things they didn't want to give up. Raising chickens, growing gardens, etc. Then the 50's..advent of the dreadful TV dinner and gas sucking cars. Then the 70's as I mentioned with tiny cars, organic food and co-ops and the like.
In the 80's Patagonia clothing company was considered wacko for recycling plastic to make their fleece. They did it anyway.
There's nothing new under the sun.
