Coldplay vs Radiohead? - opinions please. - Page 4

this thread can't be serious .. Coldplay are a good band and all but to compare to Radiohead? that's like comparing cat turds & Hennessey ..
Maybe its hard because i've never liked Radiohead. I'm not saying this because i'm angry or anything but i've seriously never liked anything Radiohead has come out with, and that goes with saying i,ve heard most of their stuff through friends. I agree that CP does get a lot of their influence from other bands such AS Radiohead, but I find that both the riffs, lyrics and melodies are much more to my tasting. There's no denying the influence Radiohead has had on Brit-rock/pop, but you cannot deny the fact that CP are alot very influential and are very popular. I agree that popularity has nothng to do with being good, EG: Flo Rida.

Its funny because some people despise Coldplay, but I have a feeling they've been influenced HEAVILY by the media. There's no doubt that CP is the band that everybody loves to hate, and I have a feeling a lot of people are just hopping on the bandwagon blindeyed.

Oh and blm, Boston has the highest selling debut album in U.S History, guess that was pure luck huh? haha

Yes, the media is absolutely unfair in their treatment of this band.

Then why cite it?

No, but selling well (aka popularity) has nothing to do with being good. I am quoting YOU here. There is no accounting for the taste of the public - tons of really bad albums have sold really well. Boston's debut album is tied with the "Bodyguard" soundtrack on the all-time highest-selling album list, for example. I for gods sake the Cranberries were popular. And they SUCK!

I was just stating that it IS true that some musicians are terrible despite popularity (obviously this is the whole premise of this discussion). However, music is extremely subjective, just like beauty and style, so its not exactly fair to call a band shitty and terrible just because you don't exactly apprecitate their music. I guess it's all fair to be arguing that Radiohead is far superior because they were around about 10 years before them, and CP was influenced by them, but just as a restatement, I find myself MUCH more moved by CP than Radiohead.

Your ignorance humours me I feel bad for people as pathetic as you, please don't get me wrong you're because you're more than welcome to state whatever you'd like about anybody and any band, but making silly remarks like that'll only make you look like a tool, which isn't too far off from the truth now is it

lets not forget though. fnce fucks, a lot.

They both have their unique sound. Coldplay is a little friendlier to the general populace though.

word, both bands are good but this is why RADIOHEAD is KING

Coldplay's are a relatively new band and have yet to achieve the level of creativity and influence that Thom and crew have work really hard at achieving. There were some moments in the early 90's that I thought they were going to impolde and even today people still give Radiohead a bashing for not conforming to the critics/record labels idea of what "Radiohead" music should sound like.

Coldplays music is very poppy and catch which is obviously more accessible and written for the masses (nothing wrong with that) but since they are since so artistically young they have yet to prove that they can write anything but sappy "Yellow" type love ballads.

Radiohead on the other hand is much older band with more records under their belt. They have proven that they are not afraid to test the waters. Their sound is unique yet always growing and evolves with each album. This tends to either piss off new fans, old fans or anyone who doesn't give a rats ass about anything but cock rock or wangsta rap.

If you've listened to the new album, their material is VERY different from the 3 previous albums. Not so much of the "love" type songs (with the exception of Strawberry Swing, Lovers In Japan and Lost!). I do agree a lot with your whole opinion though. CP are much younger than Radiohead, and haven't really expressed their full potential.

I did give it a listen. The first single was getting so many Pink Floyd comparisons I was actually really looking forward to it, but IMO it didn't merit all that much praise. It was well done and overall good record but it sounds exactly what I thought COLDPLAY would sound like. No offense but I liked that trick the first time around but now it's getting old. There are too many other bands that sound like that but not many that sound anything like Radiohead. They always seem to surprise me.

IMO Coldplay only got the Radiohead comparisons when they first started off. That’s unavoidable when all new bands are first trying to break it, but they've definitely proved that they were much more than copy cats.

If I'm not mistaken most of today's bands and artists don't really have any original ideas. It's all recycled. I'm mean there is only so much new stuff that you can possibly come out with. I'm pretty sure Radioheads have been influenced by other bands as well. Today's bands, basically take a sample of past music and reinvented by adding something new or extra to it.

You can say that Coldplay is not as good as Radioheads. But you can't say that they didn't bring something new to the table as well. Sure, they are main stream so people hate on them. But the band does some good music so they shouldn't be trashed for it. Coldplay is not Britney Spear so lay off the criticism. No need to be such a bitter and miserable asswipe.

Freddie Mercury is still awesome!!!

I just enjoy music...from both bands !! Thank you !

Coldplay is a radio-friendly, shallower version of Radiohead.

OK Computer is musical perfection, IMO.

Congratulations fncestudent,
Based on your personal character, igornance, pure idiocy and because we feel sorry for you, you've been one of only 5 people selected to join the prestigious College Of Tools. At this prestigious academic venue, you will further develop your skills at becoming one of the greatest tools to ever live. Each and every one of your undesireable and poor qualities will help in proving to the world that you are in fact one of few hard headed, one-sided, narrow minded individuals. Please DO NOT take time to bask in your glory, as you will have all of 100 years to bask in your enormously huge and undoubtedly misguided ego. Once again, we congratulate you on your profound status in life and welcome you in to this coveted society.

Now if only you as were as qualified to talk about clothing

Bickering aside, In all seriousness the way I see it is Radiohead are the equivelent of books like Animal farm / 1984 / War and Peace (books they've referenced in their works especially hail to the thief and Kid A) they're the high brow interlectual band and like those books are refered to as high brow, intelectual and genius. Coldplay they're more the shy kids who write poetry books about their feelings. Nothing wrong with that at all, except of course in the grand scheme of things Radiohead (being the high brow intelectual band) will always get the most recognition.
