I feel like the beginning of the end, so to speak, was the new mall, as someone mentioned earlier. I think it was a good idea to try and improve the interface for selling, but making is separate from the forum dramatically decreased the traffic going to it. I used to routinely look at the relevant mall sub-fora while I was browsing, and now I forget about the mall until the tab at the top catches my eye.

I think that the mall was a huge draw for people, which is why it made sense to try and improve it, but I think that even though the new interface is nice and all, it irreparably changed the way people spent their time on HF.

I also think that the fact that so many members have been banned over time leaves people with a bad taste in their mouth. Some I've agreed with, some I haven't, but it seems to leave people feeling like everyone is liable to be banned if they make some missteps..It isn't a very welcoming place when you know the ban hammer is always at the ready.

I just realized that this post had become a short novel, so I'll end it here.

I do not post here as much because i find the latest, louder members to be pretty darn obnoxious. The constant style-wars...took the fun out of fashion for me.. Too much drama. Oh, and the fact that a bunch of cool people got 'banned' mysteriously..

...check the history of HF. Some ugly shiiii went down! Since then, its only a blur...

That, and SEVENareyouKIDding?

^ I see what you mean, but a little bit of drama and a little bit of sarcasm is actually part of the fun. I used to hate SevenKid until I figured out s/he's a 16-year-old boy/girl with too much time on his/her hands. Now I like him/her sometimes. Maybe because as a college teacher, I have a lot of patience with kids
anyway, too much kindness is usually a sign of fakeness, since people are different and bound to differ at times. of course, one should not go overboard, but a little sarcasm here and there don't hurt - it'd be boring without.

If you guys think that newcomers don't get enough respect here, you should try posting on another forum with a young-male-dominated demographic...cars, videogames, sports, anything. They get really nasty. Compared to a lot of the web, HF is polite, tightly patrolled, and close-knit/insular

Ohh, I like the fun, 'ok, thats funny, now get over it!' drama Not a fan of the harsh, unconstructive critisism though. There is a line and its been crossed alot lately. Became a chore to read..

Besides, now that Lorna has been taken, theres nothing to live for..Nothing.

As much as I love the +/- capability, I kinda think that's just one reason that people aren't responding as much. If you agree or disagree with a post, all you have to do is click a button. Unless you're really compelled to explain why or elaborate further on the subject, you really don't have to do anything more.

Also, I find that a lot more members are saying silly things, in hopes that other members will + their posts. A lot of these things are just one-liners that hardly contribute to the topic of the thread or as Paul said, leads the thread off-topic, to the point where people can't even remember what the original post was about.

Some of the MOST valuable members that R&R Section has/had have moved to Authentic Forum. I too admit I followed them there but people weren't as friendly... things just move quicker over there which i love...

I dunno that's part of it

I don't post a ton, but I do visit every day and I check through the mall all the time. I do think things in the mall are selling slower than usual, but I'm not sure how relative that is to the mall being separate. It doesn't make a difference to me whether I click the tab at the top or see the mall sections on the side of the page.

In terms of friendliness to new members, I think we could be a little nicer, but hell, have you checked any of the other forums out? I feel far more comfortable posting here than anywhere else, I feel like the other forums can be kind of clique-y. But they were also started by a group of friends, so it can be expected.

I miss people like Saifz, simply because it was so easy so laugh at how pathetic he was. (almost all his WAYWT posts were negged & he seemed to revel in it, lol)
I don't think it hurts to keep people around who stir the pot. In the end if everyone agrees with each other, there's nothing really to talk about.

Also, the new mall system is not user friendly, even though that seemed to be the intended result. Being that this is a forum, it's so much easier to find what you are looking for in a forum-like layout. Hate to bring it up, but look at the supermarket on sufu... simple forum layout that is extremely effective. The new mall seemed like an attempt to fix something that was never broken.

One last thing, fashion is very fickle and the styles change constantly. Diesel may be "timeless" but people are getting over it, along with R&R and the like. I know my diesels are rarely in rotation any more, and I'm sure same can be said for many more of us here. Not sure how that can be fixed, but when a site is limited to so few designer brands, people are eventually going to move on to other things...

I feel like the original user base of hf who wore several different kinds of designer denim has shifted their tastes, etc. i know i have. when i joined, it was to:
1. find out more about true religions, since i had bought some fake ones and wanted to know how to tell better
2. look in the mall for good deals

now, my tastes have changed considerably, as have many on here. why can't we rearrange/combine/add to the subforums to reflect changes in popularity?

Other Designer Denim (RR, SFAM, CH, TR, etc)
Dry Denim
Couture fashion discussion
Mall fashion discussion
Footwear

Would that be so bad?
