has HF become less popular? - Page 6

Well, I apologize for the cross-post. That was wrong. I'll leave my opinions on other forums to myself, since that's not conducive toward find a resolution to the problem here.
I will say this however, with a +/- system on this forum, it's pretty hard NOT to diss certain people, indirectly anyway. Perhaps you could at least go back to the system where you couldn't see who gave you a + or -, that may prevent people from forming alliances & randomly negg'ing certain people b/c they didn't like one of their outfits. Anonymity made things better imo.

Maybe its just me, but I've found that HF has become less and less fun ever since it was free for new members to join. The original core members don't post anymore probably because a lot of new members started posting without even reading the rules or doing a search. Now that HF is free to join as a lite member, its also more open to trolls and douchebags.
The mall is fine in my opinion, although it is very slow and it is much harder to sell anything compared to a year ago when things didn't take more than two weeks to sell.
Also, I think another reason why HF has become less popular and slower is because more and more people (like me personally) have switched to dry/raw denim. Yes, I do realize HF has a dry denim section but it takes a long time to get results so it would naturally be a slow and generally uneventful subforum.

Haha that happened to me. It wasn't so bad, I actually went over and asked them why they didn't like it and they were civil enough about their critiques. And to be fair it's probably an outfit I wouldn't wear today.

I actually kind of like the middle ground people have talked about, but maybe we should keep it to the male-dominated Diesel subforum? I usually cross post my WAWYT posts there to see what people think. I don't mind getting people's honest opinions. I may not actually agree with them, they my criticize a certain fit that I prefer, but it's good to hear what people think and then I can evaluate their opinion to see if I agree with it. For instance there a lot of silhouettes posted that I don't think are very flattering for a male, but maybe the person is going for a more androgynous look. That's not my keep of tea, so I'll keep that in mind when giving or evaluating the criticism.

Is anyone else finding A Clockwork Orange annoying lately?

Anyways, I've found this place to be a little slow lately. I couldn't tell you why, but I've noticed every time a "lite member" has the balls to start a topic, he gets ripped on by so many people for not using the search button or something. How many lurkers are reading this thread right now not wanting to post because they have a 0 post count to begin with and many of you guys would belittle their input do to it, or are afraid you'd rip on them for not being part of some clique here. Or the fact they don't want to post seeing threads like who is the most annoying member present/past or the fact that they see a lot of us arn't welcoming to lite members.

And the forum isn't slowing down because of the free membership, forums become stagnant without new members except our new members don't post because half the forum is a bitch to them when they try to. And the older members are becoming less active, so all you get are the people who go out of their way to welcome the light members with "Use the search option" "Read the rules!" "Stupid Lite Members"

And what's wrong with AuthenticForum? At least they have the courtesy down. Okay so they're "two years behind" on fashion, how many years behind is this forum compared to SuFu? Seriously, get over yourself. If you look at people around you, a lot of people still wear True Religion + Affliction. So fricken' what. I might just hop on over there to sell my stuff because maybe it'll actually sell seeing as how I don't have Dior or Thanaz to sell here but instead like the majority of men out there, straight legs and bootcuts.

Well, I'm not that long in here So I don't know about the past, but I personally think that is simply time of the year. Its Spring/Summer time, less people sitting next to their Computers and more going out and Having generally good time

I totally disagree with that..if you want to make a +/- for a post/pic then take the time to make a statement.. I was one of the loudest advocates for bringing back the feature that allowed us to see who +/- a post. IF not then get rid of it all together.

As to the orginal question I can only answer for myself. I was spending way too much time on line, and too little time in my "real" life. And its summer and hot as heck in south florida so the last thing I am buying is jeans. Lately I have been buying most of my items from Jcrew.. revisiting the preppy days of my youth.

As to comments on one's attire and choice of outfit.. isnt that always subjective.. true if you post a picture be ready to hear the comments ,but all in all fashion should contain a sense of self.. a unique statement that says you are like no other...

and if you like it then rock it.. its the only opinion that matters, and confidence is always hella sexy

lol yes ACO's talk is annoying yet mildly funny

i actually don't see much of the hate on lite members, only the lite members that actually sign up just to troll. i don't find it hard to just jump right in and start posting. i mean, i did

We have been over this SO many times...if the point is to dress better, people should expect criticism.

How many times have I been ripped for one of my outfits? Have I ever complained because JSKidder or anyone else was too hard on me? No - I said "thanks" and moved on, taking the advice into consideration as I saw fot for my needs. I didn't waste anyone's time by trying to save face and attack the people that negged/ripped my outfits.

The problem isn't that this forum cuts people down - it's that some over-sensitive posters think they're getting cut down, even if they're not.

Your clothes are your clothes - not you. People get too bent out of shape when people criticize their outfits, but it's really simple: change the outfit or expect to hear about it! It's not changing your religion...just an outfit.

Perfect example...SonicVoodoo's WAYWT from the other day. Dude posted the worst outfit I have seen since signing up for HF, and then flew into a frenzy when people didn't like it. But he said in no uncertain terms that he didn't care what people thought, despite replying furiously to every single comment directed his way in that thread.

Are we supposed to accommodate childishness like that by just keeping quiet if we don't have anything glowing and expressive (ie FAKE) about the outfit? Then we might as well just merge with AF and tell everyone how great they look in their TRs/Affliction/Von Douche/etc.

SuFu is equally childish and no one wants to be like them. But going in the AF direction (everyone gets +20) is not the way.

You just answered your own question.

And people generally don't think that whitebread kids saying "niga" is cool. I have a few asian and white acquaintances that say it that way, and they are all douches.

OK A few serious ideas on what may make this site better IMO

#1 We as mods back off a little bit and let the banter/arguing go. The only time we stop threads/lock them is when it goes WAY over the edge. So no pms from people whining that " so and so negs me all the time" and "so and so said I am a douche and everyone plussed him"

Chances are if you get called a douche often ( and by many members) you are in fact a douche, deal with it. This would let the funnier comments go, and the jerks would get called out by other members to make it balance out

#2 We do away with the whole "infraction" thing. When it takes you like 50 in 3 months to get banned, it does no good. Anyone acting out will get pmd by a mod and told to stop, continued behavior will be dealt with afterwards

#3 We condense a few brands. Some of the forums are barely looked at and take up space needlessly

#4 Add a "Footwear" section ( great idea Hisma) Any and all footwear based questions would go there, freeing up chat and other sections from the same questions. We already have a footwear sticky in Fashion, but its not as visable as it should be IMO

#5 STOP with the dumb bantering for page after page in the WAYWT thread. Sometimes it will go for over a page with no one posting clothing. Comments should be limited to ones that pertain to outfits and critiscism ( both good and bad)

#6 Discuss with you guys/gals some ways to increase membership, and maybe allow for bunches of lite members who contribute well to receive free full memberships...

Discuss...

All good suggestions imo, CUTUP.

And Re #2, i reckon it would be better having temp bans again.. rather than the redundant warning points system. I think in some instances a permanent ban is way too severe (eg. in the case of TEE's banning) and the warning points are obviously a complete waste of time.

perhaps TEE could have instead gotten a week or two in 'banned camp', for the things he said to Lorna. i personally don't think that permanently banning *TEE* was a good thing for the forum.

Perhaps he should be granted a pardon now?

How about this....be less obnoxious....and stop calling new members morons on their first post. There is a way to criticize without being rude. That way you dont scare potential new members away.
I don't think we need a whole section dedicated to footwear since really all it needs is a single thread for questions, which it already has.

Yeah I liked your idea, I just think it needs more exposure to be utilized better..
Yeah, I think the footwear thread is enough for now. It's only posted in a few times a day anyway. If it gets a bit more popular then I don't see why it shouldn't be expanded.

google "diesel jeans forum" AF #1, HF #3
google "true religion jeans forum" AF #1, HF doesn't even come up in the first page. That's pretty sad

i thought those were my ideas lol oh well- cutup has come great points.

to the people who think footwear isn't popular enough here, maybe if we had a dedicated forum it would be more popular. there were people who didn't think dry denim would be a good subforum, but it turned out great and ended up increasing many members' interest in dry denim, including mine.

i also think banning outgoing members is stupid and bad for the forum. honestly, most people here come equally for the jeans and the drama (and, in begret's words, the microcosm of society represented) so too much censorship is a little ridiculous.

also, i think that there should maybe be a thread a month that encourages votes for lite members receiving regular memberships and regular members going pro for free based on contributions to the site. that would also make many of the "pro members" actually more like pros. haha.

tambien (i already used also twice), i feel that the site's focus should shift away from authentication and more towards the kind of discussions they have on SuFu sometimes. if AF is more popular anyways, maybe we could let them handle the bulk of auth checks and focus more on discussion, analysis, critique and sales.
