Well I think you could do something but you'd have to change the process up a bit (which can be done, but it would have to be tested)
Basically,
- Put the rips
- Apply dye to the tears and then a dye rinse
- Apply patches (medium blue, instead of black would be better)
That way you'd get the yarns looking a closer shade to the tears, the denim and the patches wouldn't look so starkly different.

Diesel, you may contact me for ideas in the future since it looks like things are really weirding out for the past two seasons... I haven't seen anything that has 'moved' me so far out of the Preview stuff.
